Unit 4 Painting the world
【教学目标】
By the end of the class, the students will
1.know Vincent Van Gogh’s life and work briefly and understand the new words such as critic, review, subject, stroke etc..
2.Learn the writing purpose of a review and be prepared for the Vincent Van Gogh exhibition.
3.Be motivated to dig deep to find out more stories about Van Gogh and what is behind his fame.

Do you want to view his works first or read the review first? (读中)
2.尊重学生已有的背景知识来设计教学,这对阅读效果有很大影响,因为阅读是读者与作者的互动。
3.尊重学生应有的权力就是要尊重学生的思想、尊重学生的理解,通过回顾录像中本节课师生的对话,语言已超过了文本的信息,有学生自己对文本的理解。正如一位作家所言“一百个读者就有一百个哈莫雷特”。做到尊重,采纳学生的观点。
【教学过程】
导入:Survey
Teacher: Ask students about Van Gogh and collect students’ questions about him.
Students: Talk about what they know about Van Gogh and what else they want to know
Purpose: To check students’ background knowledge about Van Gogh and arouse their reading needs.
活动:While reading(1)
Teacher: Ask students to skim the passage and divide the passage into several parts.
Students: Skim the passage and divide the passage by Van Gogh’s life and work.
Purpose: To get students aware of the structure and the style of the passage and predict what the passage is mainly about.
活动:While reading(2)
Teacher: Ask students to find a sentence that concludes the life of Van Gogh.
Students: Read the first part of the passage and find out the sentence.
Purpose: To get students to read for the main idea of the first part and to pave the way for the coming reading activities.
活动:While reading(3)
Teacher: Encourage students to read for the details to support the sentence.
Students: Read for the details to support the main idea of the first part.
Purpose: To enrich students’ knowledge of Van Gogh’s unsuccessful life.
活动:While reading(4)
Teacher: Encourage students to try appreciating his works in terms of style, color, subject and stroke.
Students: Try appreciating Van Gogh’s works in terms of style, color, subject and stroke.
Purpose: To introduce a typical Van Gogh’s work to students and teach new words such as stroke, subject.
活动:While reading(5)
Teacher: Ask students to read the second part of the passage for the author’s opinions.
Students: Read the second part and discover how the author describe Van Gogh’s works.
Purpose: To learn about how the author expresses his love for Van Gogh’s works and why.
活动:While reading(6)
Teacher: Encourage students to try sensing the strong emotions from Van Gogh’s work.
Students: Try feeling the strong emotions expressed in Van Gogh’s work.
Purpose: To get students to further understand the typical feature of Van Gogh’s work --- strong emotions.
活动:Post reading
Teacher: Present students with more questions to ponder according to some other details in the passage.
Students: Find out the other details about Van Gogh in the passage and ponder the questions.
Purpose: To lead students to think about the great artist in a profound way and further stimulate their interest and curiosity about Van Gogh.

2.Read aloud the review of Van Gogh’s life at least 2 times and try to summarize the features of Van Gogh’s works in your own words.
