Background: Sign language for people who could not hear or speak was developed in the 18th century. The French Abbe Charles Michel Epee (1712-1789) studied the sign language which had grown up among such people over the centuries and organized it into a systematic language. Some gestures represent letters of the alphabet while others symbolize whole words or phrases. It is used all over the world.

Braille was invented by a Frenchman, Louis Braille, in 1829.He became blind when he was eight. He then studied at the National Institution for Blind Children in Paris, later became a teacher at his school and invented Braille, which was named after him. It is an alphabet consisting of an arrangement of raised dots, which can be read by blind people using their sense of touch.
