Ⅲ.阅读理解
Do you enjoy reading? Do you read newspapers or magazines? Chances are, if you do any of these activities, your preschool child is on his way to becoming a reader.
The process of learning to read is complex, and one of the most important things to know is that parents can help their children learn to read. As children have conversations with adults, they hear both new and familiar words and their vocabulary grows.
There are many opportunities for adults and children to talk together, such as when riding in the car or in a bus, doing housework like fixing dinner, or bathing and getting ready for bed. A major part of conversation is listening. When children talk, adults listen and respond. Then children listen and respond, and so the flow of conversation happens.
Have you watched your preschool child pretend to read to his younger sisters or brothers? Have you read his favorite story over and over? These experiences tell children that reading is fun. And when things are fun and they are repeated, your child will see letters. He begins to connect them to familiar words, especially the letters that make up his name. A natural next step for him to take is to write the letters.
When children see parents make a grocery list, they want to use a pencil and paper to make their own list. To encourage these beginning writing activities, have pencils, markers, crayons and scrap paper within your children's reach.
The more children get connected with talking, listening, reading and writing, the easier it is for them to become active readers. While you as a parent have a big influence on these early behaviors, it is important to remember that opportunities for literacy experiences happen when you and your child share in the basic routines(日常生活) of everyday life.

When the lazy days of summer arrive and the schedule is filled with swimming, camp, and family vacations, it can be a challenge to find time for learning. But kids' reading skills don't have to grow cold once school's out. Here are some ways to make reading a natural part of their summer fun.
Explore your library. Visit your local library to borrow books and magazines that your kids haven't seen before. Many libraries have summer reading programs, book clubs, and reading contests(比赛)for even the youngest borrowers. With a new library card, a child will feel extra grown-up by borrowing books.
Read on the road. Going on a long car trip?Make sure there are some books at the back seat. When you stop driving, read the books aloud. Get some audio books in libraries and listen to them together during driving time.
Make your own books.Pick one of your family's favorite parts of summer—whether it's baseball, ice cream, or the pool—and have your child draw pictures of it or cut out pictures from magazines. Stick(粘贴)the pictures onto paper to make a booklet(小册子)and write text for it. When you've done, read the booklet together. Reread it whenever you like!
Keep in touch. Kids don't have to go away to write about summer vacation. Even if your family stays home, they can send postcards to tell friends and relatives about their adventures(冒险经历). Ask a relative to be your child's pen pal and encourage them to write each week.
Keep up the reading habits. Even if everything else changes during the summer, keep up the reading habits around your house. Read with your kids every day—whether it's just before bedtime or under a shady tree on a lazy afternoon. And don't forget to take a book to the beach! Just brush the sand off the pages—it's no sweat!

I was ten when my family moved to a new place to live. We were total strangers to the new surroundings and I was too shy a kid to make new friends—so before going out into the street for the first time, I had to collect together all the courage I'd had, if I did have that all then.
It was a summer vacation, and there were lots of kids along the street, boys and girls, playing different games. As soon as I appeared on the porch(走廊), one of them shouted, “Look, there is a new boy!”, and they all suddenly seemed to have lost any interest in their activities.
In a second, dozens of curious eyes were focused on me. A deadly silence fell upon the place; they all turned towards me and stood still. Everyone seemed to be waiting for some sort of reaction from me. But as far as I was concerned, the situation was completely strange to me. I was frightened and terribly embarrassed, and I was about to rush back when another voice cried:“New boy, what's your name?”
I can still remember the challenge of overcoming the embarrassment when taking a deep breath. I called back loudly, “Hi, everybody, I'm Victor!”
Then I walked down from the porch and began to talk and play with them. In a quarter of an hour I learned the names of the boys I was playing with. In a couple of days I knew every kid in the community, and a bit later, I made friends with most of them. Gradually, my parents also got to know a lot of people there. We didn't feel strange in our new surroundings any more.
Since then, I have made it my principle to be the first to say “Hi” to a stranger who is new to my surroundings.__________________________________.

Forgiveness
To forgive is a virtue(美德), but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.
__1__ Try the following steps:
Calm yourself.__2__ You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure:a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.
Don't wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way.__3__ Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.
Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者).Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who caused you pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.__4__ If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.
Don't forget to forgive yourself. __5__ But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don't do it.
A.Why should you forgive?
B.How should you start to forgive?
C.Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.
D.Try to see things from your offender's angle.
E.For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.
F.To make your anger die away, try a simple stress-management technique.
G.If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.

Neither television nor radio nor magazines nor books nor any other medium can begin to match newspapers for depth and breadth of coverage(新闻报道).In fact, all these media themselves depend on newspapers to bring them information that they then process and distribute as their own brand of news.
Now many newspapers are locked in a struggle for survival. If they lose—which is by no means impossible—we all lose.
The great task for editors and publishers is to respond to the competitive challenge caused by online news, and at the same time use their own online news to increase their profits(利润). As yet, they haven't figured out a smooth and sure way to do that.
So they cut some more to get profit. The cuts in size that they are making are in some cases risky and in others without considering the results. With every cut, publishers tirelessly argue that readers won't even know the difference. The trouble is that by the time customers do notice that they are getting less for their money; it will be too late—too late to notice the reduction in the number of readers.
The other big cuts, of course, are in staff(员工).The victims would be the oldest and most experienced workers because they are the highest paid. While there is plenty of tired deadwood among them, there is also a lot of talent.
When experienced staff leave in large numbers—as they often do now—the newspaper loses great professional memory. But the real loser is the readers, who are suddenly robbed of the insights(见识) that only the experienced reporters can bring.
As for the future, there is at least one big, bright sign:intelligent young people will continue to flood into journalism in urgent search of jobs, despite its high demands and modest(不太高的) pay.

2.According to the passage, which of the following can best describe the author's attitude towards the ways the editors and publishers have adopted to get profit?
A.The author had no objection.
B.The author opposes them.
C.The author regards them reasonable.

3.Who will be the real loser if newspapers lose according to the passage?
A.Publishers. B.Readers.
C.Editors. D.Writers.

4.The author seems to agree with the view that ________.

(2019·湖州高一检测)
Forgiving someone who has hurt you or let you down is never an easy thing. Several new studies, however, say that it could have a lot of health benefits. When you think of forgiveness, you probably don't think of it as being a health or medical problem. Studies from Stanford University, on the other hand, show that something like anger can change your well-being.
When cartoon book characters like the Incredible Hulk get angry, they change colors and often gain special power. In the real world, anger is less obvious and may be more dangerous. That's why Professor Fred Luskin, founder of the Stanford Forgiveness Project and author of Forgive for Good, says holding on to anger and hatred can harm your physical and mental health. Two new studies seem to show the same idea.
The studies find that people who are able to forgive feel less stress, less back pain, and less depression(抑郁). They also have fewer headaches, lower blood pressure, and fewer problems on sleeping.
So it doesn't matter if your anger is caused by the traffic or other things. Learning to let it go is important. Techniques such as deep breath or thought can help. Or just ask yourself if it's worth hurting yourself by staying angry with someone else.
Forgiveness does not mean that you simply accept what happened and say it's OK. Instead, it's a way of making peace with yourself about what happened in the past.

Sonya and her family have been homeless since she was 3 years old. Over the years, they have moved more than 15 times to different shelters around New York City. Moving around was hard on Sonya. At school, Sonya hid her homelessness from teachers and other students. She didn't want to be treated differently than other kids.
In sixth grade, Sonya discovered a way to deal with some of her stress(压力). She began studying dance at her middle school. “It was a way for me to express myself, instead of just holding everything in,” she explains.Soon, Sonya auditioned(试演) for a summer dance camp run by Alvin Alley, a famous dance company. She was accepted. “I was delirious,” says Sonya.
Dancing became an even more important part of Sonya's life in high school. But things were not going well for Sonya at school. Each time her family moved to a new shelter, Sonya missed school. As the second-oldest of six kids, Sonya often took care of her younger sisters and brothers. She helped them get ready in the morning and took them to school. They would be on time, but Sonya would be late.
Worrying about her family kept Sonya from thinking about her own future. That changed the summer after 11th grade. Sonya learned she would have to go to summer school to graduate. She became determined to succeed, no matter what. “It was a wake-up call,” she says. “I had to focus on(集中精力于……) school and on myself.”
Sonya made up the work that she had missed, and finally graduated from high school. No one in her family had gone to college before. But in September 2015, Sonya enrolled (登记入学) in the State University of New York at Potsdam. She plans to become a doctor for kids and to teach dance to children who have disabilities.

Fewer Americans are reading newspapers and more Americans are instead getting their news online, but television remains the leading source of news in the country, according to a survey.
Not surprisingly, younger people tend to get more of their news on the Internet, while older people use traditional media such as television and newspapers, the Pew Research Center's survey on the ways of getting news said. Pew said the results show an increasing change toward getting news online, but that there is now a fairly large group of better-off people that use both traditional and online sources to get their news. The Pew researchers referred to these people as integrators (整合者), and said they accounted for 23 percent of those surveyed, spending the most time getting news on a typical day.
“Like Net news consumers, integrators are highly educated. However, they are older.” the survey said.
Pew found that the largest group of news consumers—46 percent of those surveyed—watch television for their news at all times of the day. This group is the oldest, with an average age of 52, with 43 percent unemployed. They are unlikely to own a computer or go online for news.
The group that relies most on the Internet for news is the youngest at a median age of 35.It is also the smallest group, at 13 percent of those surveyed. Fewer than half of them watch television news regularly.
The survey was conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International. It surveyed 3,615 adults by telephone.

We know a lot about the advantages and disadvantages of reading a hard-copy book vs. reading electronically. The problem is, many of us refuse to listen.
Don't get me wrong: Digital reading has some real advantages. Ask people what they like most about reading on digital screens, and you hear over and over again about convenience. More points for digital reading:e-books tend to be cheaper. There's also the environmental argument. Think of the trees!
Yet the soundness of this case is arguable. The earth metals to build e-readers are not just rare but highly poisonous. And think about all that energy needed to run servers and cooling fans. And remember, trees are a renewable resource.
Then, there's the appeal of a hard copy. Many people prefer print when reading both for pleasure and for school or work. Drawing examples from my own research, some of the reasons are aesthetic(美学的). Others involve a sense of accomplishment, ease of annotation(“I can write on the pages”), and navigation(“easy to locate where I was”). Meanwhile, I hear abundant complaints about eye strain(眼疲劳) and headaches when using screens.
Much of what students liked about reading print involved their minds. They say “it's easier to focus”. Some also acknowledged they took more time with printed text and read more carefully.
But what makes the failure of electronic reading is concentration. More than 92% of those I surveyed said they concentrated best when reading a hard copy. When a digital device has an Internet connection, it's hard to resist the temptation(诱惑).
So if digital interruptions don't threaten your enjoyment or understanding of a text, then medium may not matter. Casual reading like David Baldacci? If you break to check sports scores, there will be little harm done. But just don't expect to understand Joyce's novels this way.
【解题导语】 文章主要介绍了在网络高度发达的社会中,电子书越来越有替代纸质书的趋势,然而作者通过对比两者的优缺点表达了对纸质书的青睐。
32.What is an advantage of reading a hard-copy book?
A.It is cheaper.
B.It is easier to carry around.
C.It helps people think deeper.
D.It provides instant information.
解析:选C 细节理解题。根据文章第五段可知,读纸质书能让人更专注、更认真,因此思考更深入。故选C项。
33.What's the biggest problem of reading digitally?
A.Environmental concern.
B.Physical discomfort.
C.Lack of concentration.
D.Internet connection.
解析:选C 细节理解题。根据文章第六段中的第一句“But what makes the failure of electronic reading is concentration.”可知,电子书阅读的最大问题是缺乏专注。故选C项。
34.What's the author's attitude toward e-reading?
A.Supportive. B.Disapproving.
C.Optimistic. D.Unconcerned.
35.How is the passage mainly developed?
A.By analyzing possible reasons.
B.By providing typical examples.
C.By listing practical suggestions.
D.By presenting direct comparisons.

One possible version:
With the fast development of modern science and technology, the electronic media are becoming more and more important in our daily life, so fewer and fewer people are reading newspapers. As a result, many people are afraid that the newspapers will be replaced by the electronic media one day.
But as far as I am concerned, the newspaper will still have a bright future, because it has its own advantages. Firstly, it is convenient to carry a newspaper, and you can read it at any time and any place you like. Secondly, the newspaper can be recycled after being read, so it causes no pollution to our environment.Lastly, it doesn't give off radiation that harms our body. In a word, the newspaper will continue to exist in our daily life.
