【辨析】whether与if
(1)相同点: 二者都表示“是否”, 引导宾语从句;
(2)不同点: ①whether可以和or not连用, 而if则不能;
②引导宾语从句, 并且把从句放在句首表示强调时只用whether不用if;
③从句作介词宾语时只用whether不用if;
④在动词不定式前面或介词之后要用whether而不用if;
⑤在某些动词(如discuss)后通常只用whether;

though为连词, 意为“虽然; 尽管”, 与although同义, 用来引导让步状语从句。
though与although的用法如下:
(1)though和although在一般情况下, 可以互换使用。只是though较为普遍, 常用于非正式的口语或书面语中; 而although则较为正式。另外, although语气比though重, 常用以强调让步概念。
*Though it was raining, we went there.
虽然下着雨, 但我们还是去了那儿。
*He climbed up the tree, although I told him not to do that. 虽然我告诉他不要爬树, 但是他还是爬了。
(2)even和though连用表示强调, 但不能说even although。even though=even if, 意为“即使”。
*Even if/Even though Lisa doesn’t win the game, she also wants to have a try.
即使丽莎不能赢得比赛, 她也要试一下。
(3)当让步状语从句指某种假设情况时, 通常用though而不用although。
*Though others don’t like Lily, I will still be her best friend. 虽然别人都不喜欢莉莉, 但是我将仍然是她最好的朋友。
(4)though还可以独立用作副词, 常放在句末, 相当于all the same “还是; 仍然”或however“可是; 然而”, although则无此用法。
* We all tried our best. We lost the game, though.
我们都已做了最大的努力, 但我们还是输了。
(5)though引导让步状语从句时可以倒装, 但although不能。
*Hard though I worked, I failed the exam.
虽然我学习很努力, 但是我还是考试失败了。
(6)相同点: 在although和though引导的让步状语从句中, 主句里不可用but, 若要强调前后两部分的对比意义, 可在主句前加yet或still。
*Though/Although my manager is very rich, he isn’t happy at all.
虽然我的经理很富裕, 但是他一点儿也不幸福。
