Extremely tired,I got back to my hotel after the one-day tour.
The amazing tour kicked off in the early morning and I made some drawings on the bus.Along the way,I saw many Duck Tours, rides on both land and sea,and they were very interesting. It was a bright day to be spent on the island called Sentosa. As soon as we got there,we took a free train to Palawan Beach which is the southernmost point to enjoy the breathtaking scenery.I took a short walk along the beach in the hope of collecting some tiny seashells. To my great disappointment, not a single seashell came into sight. Then I began looking around to see if there were some people playing beach volleyball, for I am particularly fond of volleyball and also a member of my school’s female (女子的) volleyball team. However,it saddened me that there wasn’t anyone playing the sport because of the burning sun.
In the afternoon we started our amazing adventure in Universal Studios.I once paid a visit to Universal Studios in the US,and Universal Studios Singapore is equally amazing. My favorite of all the rides we tried was the Revenge of the Mummy Roller Coaster.Although we had spent a long time waiting in line, the ride turned out to be very worthwhile. After the ride,I went to the Jurassic Park and bought a T-shirt there.
Of course no trip was going to be complete without seeing the parades and shows on the streets.Few people could resist (抵抗) the cheerful atmosphere.
In a word,it was a wonderful day.

Almost all theme park accidents can be prevented. Here, based on coverage of theme park safety, are some tips to help you and your family stay safe on your next visit.
If you are visiting with children, take a moment to explain the ride to them, and tell them how they should behave. They are depending upon you to keep them safe.Set a good example to them by following the rules of the park, and make sure that they know you expect them to follow those rules, too.
Tell them to stay seated,to hold the grab bar or put their hands on the laps, and not to stick their knees and feet outside a ride vehicle.Make them look to you for the okay to get on or off a ride, too.
And never put a crying child on a ride.If your child starts to cry,let others pass you in line until your child is calmed.Or,gently exit the queue and find something more relaxing to do.
Young kids can’t keep an adult’s pace in a theme park.Let them take plenty of breaks.
“Kids get tired,” said TPI reader Matt Johnson,a father of four.“Tired kids make parents even more tired. And tired kids and parents may get hurt—physically and emotionally.” He advises that parents plan a mid-day break, perhaps a swim back at the hotel,to avoid mid-day heat and crowds.“You will see cranky (急躁的) families having a miserable time while you are refreshed and having a great evening.”

I’ve discovered the joy of a new thing.Online grocery (杂货) shopping. But I actually enjoy going to the supermarket.
Seems I’m not the only one; only about 3% of people do grocery shopping online, compared with around 30% who shop for clothes and electronics.I was interested,so I decided to do my own very unscientific research.
Step one: I talked to a small group of friends about their preferences. One mother described it as the happiest thing in her week when she was stuck at home with two small kids and handsome young men would arrive at the door bearing groceries.Seems busy mums are very much in favour of home deliveries.
Step two:sign up and try it myself. My choice was Aussie-owned Countdown.
I managed to do the whole shop in about 15 minutes. The only problem is that you have to place an order of at least $50 and pay the seemingly standard $15 delivery fee.But given the cost of groceries, who has ever left a supermarket spending less than $50? I was impressed Countdown offered same-day delivery on a Sunday when I placed my order at 9.30 am.
Sure enough,at about 2.30 pm,I got a phone call from a delightful courier chap (快递员) called Ian,who told me he was at my house with the groceries and was leaving them on the back deck. Two minutes later he called again saying he’d left the groceries in the house because we’d left the backdoor wide open.He even offered to lock the house up and put the key somewhere safe.
I have a real fear that we will more and more quickly move to online shopping for everything and shops will become something of the past.
As a teenager, hanging around the shops on a Saturday with friends is what we did.So even though I enjoy the experience of online grocery shopping, perhaps I’ll just stick with my regular trips to my local New World to keep real shops alive a bit longer.

Every year in Australia, the strongest long-distance runners race more than 500 miles from Sydney to Melbourne. The race takes more than five days to complete. It attracts world-class athletes—the kind who become spokespeople for sports shoes and drinks.

Cliff received $10,000 for winning the race.He said he did not realize there would be prize money, and he gave the money to his fellow runners.Doing this made him a hero in Australia.Since then, many runners have started to use his special way of running.__5__ The farmer changed long-distance racing and proved that age and style aren’t everything.

There is no clear relationship between clowns and fast food.Yet everyone blindly accepts Ronald McDonald, one of the most famous clowns in the world,as the mascot (吉祥物) of McDonald’s.This is partly because Ronald has held the role for over 50 years.I’d say some people hardly consider him as a clown, considering the behavior that clowns are generally known for.
But what inspired McDonald’s to make a clown the face of their fast food company?Funnily enough,it was another clown: Bozo.
Bozo the Clown was the star of several television shows during the 1950s to 1970s.At that time, advertising manager Barry Klein worked with The Bozo Show in Washington,D.C.and he had a local McDonald’s franchise (经销权),so he talked McDonald’s into running ads during the show, the Baltimore Sun reported.
Unfortunately, the show was stopped in 1963,but Klein saw a chance to make use of Bozo’s popularity.Klein brought the actor who had played Bozo,Willard Scott, onto the project, and soon the clown came to life. His nose was a McDonald’s cup and his hat was a food tray (托盘).He was Ronald McDonald, the Hamburger-Happy Clown. Then,McDonald’s managers employed Michael Polakovs,a famous clown,to give the character an improvement. The result was the look we all know today.
According to Eric Schlosser, the author of Fast Food Nation, the only fictional (虚构的) character more famous than Ronald McDonald is Santa Claus. But in the eyes of McDonald’s,Ronald has the same level of childhood wonder—the jolly old elf (圣诞老人).

Before moving to Stockholm,I did my research on Sweden and was confident about my move. However,I quickly realized on my first day that so much of what I learned was so very wrong. There are many things that a Google search cannot show about Sweden.
The first is fika.A fika is taking a break from whatever you are doing to enjoy a coffee with friends.Swedes value community highly so it makes sense that they would like to set aside time each day to reconnect with others.Fika is a great time to meet new people as well as catch up with friends!
I grew up in the American South where everyone is very friendly.I found that little things like not being asked my life story at the coffee shop by the waiter upset me.However,Swedish people are not rude.Instead, they practice being lagom, which means “just enough.”
The winters can be very dark and cold,so the Swedish people do not take any sunny day for granted.Since the weather has been fine,I have found myself walking a lot around Stockholm.Often it is easiest to get from place to place by walking, which allows you to see so much of the city and enjoy the fresh air.Though it has been very tiring to get used to,it also has made me feel better about all of the kardemummabullar that I have been eating!
I think it is important for students who want to study abroad to know that it is hard to move countries no matter how “similar” you may think they may be.You have to jump in with both feet and be patient with yourself as well as others. As long as you keep an open mind and are willing to learn, you will have a great experience!

Ⅱ.阅读理解
In the United States, many teachers keep fish, hamsters (仓鼠),and other animals in their classrooms.Teachers say students learn important lessons from the animals.More than 70 percent of teachers who have classroom pets say the animals help students learn responsibility.Research also shows that classroom pets can reduce stress.
“Pets can comfort kids who are having a bad day,”says Lisa Robbins, who works for a group called Pets in the Classroom.
But others think pets should be expelled from classrooms. In January, the Durango School District in Colorado began following a no-pet policy (政策).Now animals can be brought into Durango schools for certain lessons, but they can’t stay.Officials were worried that animals might create problems for kids with allergies (过敏症).They were also concerned about the animals getting proper care.
Here’s what two of our readers think.
Having classroom pets gives students a fun way to learn about animals. In my class last year,we had a class pet named Elliot. Our teacher also used him to teach us about different subjects. For example,in math,we calculated how much it costs to feed Elliot for a year.
Pets also help kids learn how to work as a team.My classmates and I took turns feeding Elliot and cleaning his tank.
If teachers are worried about students with allergies, they could get pets that don’t have fur.
—D’ Lasia Mays,Texas
Classroom pets can take away valuable class time. Some students might have a hard time focusing on the teacher when there are animals in the room.
Plus, having a classroom pet can cause safety problems. You never know how an animal will react to students.Even a cute little hamster might hurt a kid who sticks his or her hand in its cage.
—Patrick McKinney,Ohio

So KidsPost and Kelly are joining forces this year for a Squirrel Haiku Contest. That means your poems must take the form of a haiku—three lines in a five-seven-five pattern (模式).And they must be connected in some way to squirrels.
A few more rules:
·The contest is open to kids ages 5 to 14 who live in the United States. Each child may send only one poem (self-created).

·Each haiku should have a title.

·Entries can be emailed to kidspost@washpost.com or sent to KidsPost Squirrel Haiku ontest,The Washington Post,1301 K Street NW,Washington,D.C.20071.
The deadline for us to receive entries is April 1.
If your poem wins and gets published (出版),you will receive a prize package that includes a KidsPost T-shirt and pencil,a squirrel toy or game and carefully chosen poetry books.

Steel Vengeance,a world-record-breaking hybrid roller coaster, recently made its first public appearance at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky,Ohio.
The ride is constructed from both wood and steel (钢).A steel running track on a huge wooden base allows the ride to provide the types of twists (扭转) and turns that are not possible on wooden roller coasters.

Fred Grubb,co-founder of Rocky Mountain, noted that “people who design roller coasters for my company have to have first-hand experience building things with their hands, not just hold an engineering degree. When you have built things for yourself, you get it,and understand what will work.”

Are you always feeling homesick after work? Or do you usually stand alone in a crowd? Everyone now and then experiences loneliness.According to recent research, loneliness can actually cause very real harm.
Like elephants and honeybees,we are social animals, explains John Cacioppo. He is a scientist who studies human behavior at the University of Chicago.“Social animals survive and live well only in groups.Loneliness reminds us that people didn’t develop to live alone,” Cacioppo says.
Studies of modern hunter-gatherers,such as the! Kung San,show what life may have been like for prehistoric (史前的) humans. The !Kung San live in southern Africa.Their communities are very close-knit (亲密无间的).They share all food.the !Kung San mothers always keep their babies in close contact.Such a close-knit community would have saved prehistoric humans from harm.It protected them just as it protects the !Kung San today from the bad environment of the Kalahari Desert.
However, few of us live as hunter-gatherers today.Advances in science and technology have transformed human cultures over the centuries,Cacioppo says. Most of us no longer need to stay together to survive the dangerous conditions.Sadly, loneliness can become a serious risk to mental and physical health when it lasts a long time.So it’s natural for people to share thoughts and feelings with their friends. We all want others to accept us for who we are. However, one in four adults taking part in a US survey reported having no one to tell a secret to.The percentage is so high that it makes the researchers very worried.Actually,it’s said that these people are more likely to suffer long-term loneliness, and it is a common experience for those who feel like they’re social outsiders. This group tends to include people who are old, poor,or facing discrimination (歧视).
People who had strong ties with family, friends and colleagues were more likely to live longer than those with few social connections, the research published in the journal PLOS Medicine showed.
