Lesson 1 Our School Newspaper
【教学目标】
1. Performance Objectives:
Students can pronounce and get the meanings of the new words. Students’ abilities of guessing and understanding the meanings of some words, phrases and sentences according to the context will be developed.
2. Get the features of an exposition:
1) Get the general idea and structure of the text and get more knowledge about front pages news.
2) Students can simply retell the experience the author with the words and expressions they have learnt.
3. Competence Objective:
1) To practice speaking/ reading and listening abilities.
2) Ss’ ability of reading front page news will be developed.
3. Emotional Objective:
1) Students will enjoy the great pleasure that reading front page stories can bring to them.
2) S-Criterion Level: Students will perform as specified at least 80% of the time
【学情分析】
1.学生在课前已经基本了解了说明文的文本特征,因此对于如何阅读说明文体裁的课文学生不会感到陌生。
2.学生已经基本了解了国内主要报纸的功能和作用,并根据个人喜好选择阅读报纸和报纸版面。但在实际生活中,学生却往往只注意标题,或之阅读一些感兴趣的版面,而不太注意报纸版面的排版和内容安排。学生对于体会和理解新闻报道所用的词汇、表达方式和句型特点会有一定的困难,这样就会对把握整篇文章的中心思想形成障碍。
阅读策略
教师引导学生运用skimming和scanning的阅读技能,理解课文的框架结构和主旨大意,通过文章的阅读和分析,引导学生理解出课文的脉络。
【教学重难点】
教师帮助学生学会阅读和理解课文的长句和复合句。
帮助学生初步学习课文中出现并影响学生对句子理解的生词。在教学中培养学生了解报纸的头版内容以及阅读报纸头版内容的“读报”能力。

Skim the sections of the front pages of newspapers, classify the different sections and write them down in the boxes.
教师将事先准备好的英文报纸发给学生,让学生就头版内容进行分类。教师应提醒学生注意有些小报或专业报纸的头条不一定包括这里所罗列的内容,他们的头条可能只包含了其中的部分内容。
以下问题可以作为鼓励学生积极思考、讨论的提示:
What section of the newspaper catches your eye (attracts you) on a newsstand (a place for newspaper selling)? Which article takes the prime (most important) position (location, place) of the front page? Where is the lead (the most important news) located? Is there anything special about the headlines (titles)? What are they? What are the contents carried in the front page?
此活动用于学生英语程度较好的班级。目的在于帮助学生扫除课文中的部分生词和短语障碍(catch one’s eye, newsstand, prime, position, lead, headline)并且使得学生将有关报纸的部分知识与内容建立联系。以上问题中出现了一些生词和短语,可以通过学生回答这些问题,自然地理解这些生词。另外,在问题中出现的生词也用学生熟悉的单词做出了解释,可以帮助学生进行理解。教师也可以把这些生词板书下来,并适当地引导学生朗读这些词汇,以解决词汇的问题。此活动的优势,在于教师易于调动课堂气氛,并较快地切入主题。

2.Write a short paragraph (<100 words) to summarize the advantages and the disadvantages of the layout and features of the front page news of the newspaper discussed in the group work, using the words or sentences in the text.
