Beijing Daxing International Airport saw off its first flight after a China Southern Airlines’ A380 left the airport at 4:22 pm on Wednesday,which headed to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. The flight showed the beginning of operations at the facility(设施) after five years of construction. Following the first flight, China Eastern Airlines, Air China, Capital Airlines, China United Airlines, Xiamen Air and Hebei Airlines each had one of their airplanes take off from the airport.
With the airport put into use, China United Airlines, the first to fully move its service into the new airport, will begin operations with 78 flights and deal with over 10,000 passengers’ trips on Thursday.
According to the airport, 66 domestic and overseas carriers including China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, British Airways, Finnair and Ethiopian Airlines plan to operate out of Daxing airport. Starting in the winter and spring seasons, the airport will serve 116 routes(线路) and 112 domestic and foreign destinations.
Li Daxing, the captain of the Capital Airlines’ A330-200, said, “Daxing airport used many state?of?the?art technologies and got the world’s leading ability of ensuring safe flights in low visibility(能见度) conditions, which will increase travel efficiency and take the pressure off Beijing Capital International Airport.”
With four runways, 268 parking bays and a huge terminal building(候机楼) covering 700,000 square meters, the new airport is expected to deal with 45 million passengers’ trips a year by 2022 and 72 million by 2025. With more runways planned, the new airport will finally deal with more than 100 million passengers yearly. It’s aiming to become the busiest airport in the world in the future and lead Beijing to become an international transit hub(交通枢纽).

If you walk through the streets of Rio de Janeiro(里约热内卢), Brazil, you’ll immediately notice something wonderful about the city: the street art. All around the city the walls are covered with colorful graffiti (涂鸦) and bright paintings.
In the past, this street art was not allowed. But in 2009, the city passed a law allowing street art on personal buildings if the owner gives permission(许可). In 2014, Rio de Janeiro became the first city in the world to legalize graffiti in places such as skate parks and the walls that surround construction sites(建筑工地).
People who want to create street art in Rio de Janeiro can’t just paint any wall with any picture, though. They still have to follow some rules. Street art and graffiti are allowed, but just signing a name on a wall is not. And if an artist wants to create a picture on the walls of someone’s house or shop, the artist must ask the owner first. But getting permission might not be too hard. Street art is very popular through the city, both with the local people and visitors. Many tourists come to Brazil just to see it.
