At 8:00, Mr. and Mrs. Rojas went into the living room, sat on the sofa and began the movie and ate and drank. At 8:15, Mr. and Mrs. Rojas realized they already watched the movie last year and they didn’t want to watch it again.
“Now what?” asked Mr. Rojas. “Let’s play cards!” answered Mrs. Rojas. At 8:30 Mr. and Mrs. Rojas started to play cards. They were playing for about 10 minutes when Mr. Rojas looked out the window. The rain changed to snow and the trees were covered in beautiful white snow. “I’m happy we stayed home tonight. It looks beautiful outside but this weather is very dangerous to drive in.” said Mr. Rojas. “You’re right,” said Mrs. Rojas, “but I’m bored. Let’s play some music and dance.”

“Oh come on!” Mrs. Rojas insisted. She put on a romantic CD and they both started to dance. They were dancing for about 1 minute when suddenly the music stopped and the lights went out. Nothing could stop Dad. After he was put on disability for a bad back, he bought a small farm in the country, just enough to grow food for the family. He planted vegetables, fruit trees and even kept bees for honey. And every week he cleaned Old Man McColgin's chicken house in exchange for manure(肥料). The smell really burned the inside of your nose. When we complained about the terrible smell, Dad said the stronger the manure, the healthier the crops, and he was right. For example, just one of his cantaloupes filled the entire house with its sweet smell, and the taste was even sweeter.
As the vegetables started coming in, Dad threw himself into cooking. One day, armed with a basket of vegetables, he announced he was going to make stew(炖菜). Dad pulled out a pressure cooker and filled it up with cabbages, eggplants, potatoes, corns, onions and carrots. For about half an hour, the pressure built and the vegetables cooked. Finally, Dad turned off the stove, the pot began to cool and the pressure relief valve sprayed out a cloud of steam. If we thought Dad's pile of chicken manure was bad, this was 10 times worse. When Dad took off the lid, the smell nearly knocked us out.
Dad carried the pot out and we opened doors and windows to air out the house. Just how bad was it? The neighbors came out of their houses to see if we had a gas leak!
Determined, Dad filled our plates with steaming stew and passed them around. It didn’t look that bad, and after the first wave had shut down my ability to smell, it didn’t offend the nose so much, either. I took a taste. It would never win a prize in a cooking competition, but it was surprisingly edible, and we drank up every last drop of soup!
24. Why did Dad clean Old Man Mocolgin’s chicken house regularly?

C. To get rid of the terrible smell. D. To set a good example to us.

Nowadays more and more people are too busy with work to relax themselves. We have no time to tell a bed-time story to our children, or enjoy a nice dinner with our family, or take a break to think about how we live the precious life, or even meet friends. All we notice is that the difference that used to guide and steady us—between Sunday and Monday, public and private, here and there—are gone. We have more ways to communicate, but less and less to say, partly because we’re so busy communicating.
Maybe that’s why more and more people I know, even if they have no religious belief, seem to be turning to yoga, or mediation, or tai chi. Some friends of mine try to go on long walks every Sunday, or to “forget” their cell-phones at home. A series of tests in recent years has shown that their brains become both calmer and sharper after spending time in quiet rural settings.
In my own case, I often turn to extreme measures to try to keep my sanity and ensure that I have time to do nothing at all. I’ve not yet used a cell-phone and I’ve never Tweeted or entered Facebook. I tried not to go online till my day’s writing was finished, and I moved from Manhattan to rural Japan.
None of this is a matter of principle or asceticism (苦行主义): It’s just pure selfishness. Nothing makes me feel better—calmer, clearer and happier—than being in one place, absorbed in a book, a conversation, a piece of music. It’s actually something deeper than mere happiness: It’s joy, which David Steindl-Rast describes as “that kind of happiness that doesn’t depend on what happens”. That is the highest of the highest we have been longing for—The Joy of Quiet.
32. What does the writer mean when using the word “forget” in the 2nd paragraph?
A. Trapped in busy work, they are really forgetful.
B. The cell-phone is not a suitable means of communication.
C. They leave their cell-phones at home on purpose.
D. They hate modern techniques such as the cell-phone.
【答案】C
【解析】推理判断题。根据第二段Maybe that’s why more and more people I know, even if they have no religious commitment, seem to be turning to yoga, or meditation, or tai chi. Some friends of mine try to go on long walks every Sunday, or to “forget” their cell-phones at home.可知,作者认识的人,他们并非出于宗教方面的原因可是也去参加瑜伽、太极、远足,并且故意不拿手机。所以作者在第二段中使用“忘记”这个词是指为了享受宁静,他们故意把手机留在家里。故选C。
33. The writer sometimes doesn’t do anything because __________.
A. he is out of work
B. whatever he does makes no sense
C. he can enjoy himself in his leisure time
D. he is worried about his writing
【答案】C
【解析】细节理解题。结合倒数第一段Nothing makes me feel better—calmer, clearer and happier—than being in one place, absorbed in a book, a conversation, a piece of music.和倒数第二段可知,作者有时候喜欢什么都不干,是因为他可以在闲暇时享受自我。故选C。
34. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The writer is unwilling to help others since he is selfish.
B. Slowing down to find deep-down joy is necessary.
C. It is better to go back to the ancient times since we are so busy now.
D. We have more to say because we have more ways to communicate.
【答案】B
【解析】推理判断题。根据最后一段中It’s actually something deeper than mere happiness: It’s joy, which David Steindl-Rast describes as “that kind of happiness that doesn't depend on what happens”.(事实上,它不仅仅是一种快乐:它是一种愉悦,David Steindl-Rast将其描述为“一种不依赖于发生了什么事情的愉悦”。)以及结合文章内容可知,放慢脚步去寻找内心深处的快乐是必要的。故选B。
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Enjoying quiet time is very important.
B. We can do some sports such as yoga to relax.
C. To feel better, we should do nothing at all.
D. The more we communicate, the better we will feel.
【答案】A
故选A。

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Sticking to your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle is one of the most important strategies for achieving good sleep. If you keep a regular sleep schedule, you will feel much more refreshed and energized than if you sleep the same number of hours at different times. This holds true even if you change your sleep schedule by only an hour or two. 36 Try the following ways to help you stick to your body clock, and you will have a better sleep.
37 Keeping a regular sleep-wake schedule helps set your body’s internal clock and improve the quality of your sleep. Start by setting realistic bedtime that will work with your lifestyle. 38 If you’re getting enough sleep, you should wake up naturally without an alarm. If you need an alarm clock to wake up on time, you may need to set earlier bedtime.
Avoid sleeping in — even on weekends or nights you’ve stayed up late. 39 If you need to make up for late night, choose a daytime nap rather than sleeping in. This way allows you to pay off your sleep debt with disturbing your natural sleep-wake rhythm.
Be smart about napping. As mentioned above, napping is a good way to recharge and make up for lost sleep hours. But if you tend to have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep throughout the night, napping can make things worse. 40 Besides, limiting them to 15 to 20 minutes in the early afternoon is a good idea.
A. Never sleep after dinner.
B. Consistency is vitally important.
C. Try to go to sleep and get up at the same time every day.
D. Don’t turn to sleeping pills every time you can’t sleep quickly.
E. If sleeplessness is a problem for you, consider ridding naps altogether.
F. Choose a time when you normally feel tired, so that you will fall fast asleep.
G. The more your weekend / weekday sleep schedules differ, the worse the jet lag-like symptoms you will experience.
36.【答案】B

37.【答案】C

Dear classmates,
I’ll tell you something about my future. Every one of us is thinking about the future. I have decided to become the middle school teacher. Does it sound surprising? I have this dream when I was only a child. I love children.

72. 【答案】have→ had
【解析】考查时态。句意:当我还是个孩子的时候,我就有了这个梦想。根据when I was only a child可知此处时态是一般过去时。故将have改为had。
73. 【答案】Which→ As
【解析】考查定语从句的关系代词。句意:我们都可以看到,我们的国家非常需要教师,尤其是在农村。As we all can see“我们都能看到”,此处是由as引导的定语从句,as“正如”,是关系代词,位于句首,指代的是整个主句teachers are greatly needed in our country, especially in the countryside。而which不能放在句首。故将Which改为As。
74. 【答案】great→ greatly

A. To earn some money for the family. B. To collect manure for his crops.
C. To get rid of the terrible smell. D. To set a good example to us.

A. To attract. B. To upset. C. To air. D. To shut.
27. What can we learn about Dad form the text?
A. He is an experienced cook. B. He is a troublesome father.
C. He has a positive attitude to life. D. He suffers a lot from his disability.

33. The writer sometimes doesn’t do anything because __________.
A. he is out of work
B. whatever he does makes no sense
C. he can enjoy himself in his leisure time
D. he is worried about his writing
34. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The writer is unwilling to help others since he is selfish.
B. Slowing down to find deep-down joy is necessary.
C. It is better to go back to the ancient times since we are so busy now.
D. We have more to say because we have more ways to communicate.
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Enjoying quiet time is very important.
B. We can do some sports such as yoga to relax.
C. To feel better, we should do nothing at all.
D. The more we communicate, the better we will feel.
