家谱，又称族谱，是我国从古代产生并延续至今的一种以表谱形式记载一个家族的世代繁衍及重要人物事迹的书。
家谱产生于上古时期。从长江、黄河流域发展起来的中华民族，散居在祖国广袤的土地上。这些以血统关系维系着的家族，都有着各自的祖先。虽然各自之间有着贫富的差别，但这并不妨碍他们一同居住在同一块土地之上，甚至连战争、瘟疫和其他自然灾害，也不能将他们分开。因此，家族是古代中国社会构成的基本单元，民族是在此基本单元上组成的大家族，国家是一个更大的家族。于是，百姓便是这个总家族的子民，皇帝也就成了“总族长”。
为了使统治得到延续和稳定，权力更替与财产继承能平稳实现，使之不落入他手，因此，不论是国还是家，都十分重视血统的纯净。这样，记录血缘关系和血统世系的家谱就应运而生了。The new teacher
