Language points
1. Second, before we cross the street, we must stop and look both ways—look left, look right and look left again. 第二,我们过马路之前必须停下来向两边看看,即看看左边,看看右边,再看看左边。
cross 意为“穿过,横过”。
e.g. We shouldn’t cross the street until the traffic lights are green. 直到绿灯亮了,我们才能过马路。
比较:across, cross 与 crossing
(1) across 用作介词或副词,意为“横过,到对面”。
e.g. I saw a boy running across the street. 我看见一个男孩正跑过马路。
(2) cross 用作动词,意为“穿过,横过”相当于动词+across。
e.g. I saw a boy crossing the street. 我看见一个男孩正过马路。
(3) crossing 用作可数名词,意为“十字路口”。
e.g. I’ll wait for you at the second crossing. 我将会在第二个十字路口等你。
2. Last, it’s good to help children and old people cross the street.最后,帮助孩子和老人过马路是件好事。
It’s good to do sth. 做(某事)是好的,句中it是形式主语,真正的主语是后面的动词不定式to do,good可换成其他形容词。
e.g. It’s good to help parents do the housework. 帮助父母做家务是好的。
It’s not easy to learn English well. 学好英语不是一件容易事。

祈使句:用来表示请求、命令、建议、警告;一般省略主语you,句末用感叹号或句号,肯定结构用动词原形开头。

Please be careful. 请小心。(表建议)
Stop when the light is read. 红灯亮时,要停下来。(表警告)
结构:
(1) 肯定结构
① 以系动词be开头的祈使句 e.g. Please be quiet. 请安静。
② 以实义动词原形开头的祈使句 e.g. Put your things away. 把你的东西收起来。
③ Let’s开头的祈使句 e.g. Let’s play soccer. 让我们一起踢足球吧。
(2) 否定结构
① be动词和实义动词的否定句都是在句首加don’t构成。
