spend time (in) doing sth. 表示“花费时间做某事”。介词in可以省略；如果表示“在某物上花费时间”，要用spend time on sth. 例如：

spend, take, cost, pay都有“花费”的意思，但他们的用法各有不同。
spend和pay的主语都是人，cost和take的主语都是物。
而take只能表示“花费时间”，cost和pay只能表示“花费金钱”。

I spent $30 on that coat.
I paid $30 for that coat.
