such as 表示“例如”,用来列举同类事物,意思相当于for example.但such as 后面接名词或动名词(短语),出现在句中。
for example后面一般只接句子,可出现在句首。

spend time (in) doing sth. 表示“花费时间做某事”。介词in可以省略;如果表示“在某物上花费时间”,要用spend time on sth. 例如:
I spend one hour (in) reading every evening.

spend, take, cost, pay都有“花费”的意思,但他们的用法各有不同。
spend和pay的主语都是人,cost和take的主语都是物。
而take只能表示“花费时间”,cost和pay只能表示“花费金钱”。

I spent $30 on that coat.
I paid $30 for that coat.
That coat cost me $30.It took me 10 minutes to walk there.
