Module 9 Life history
Unit 1 He left school and began work at the age of twelve.
设计说明
本单元设置节日的场景,教授学生有关日期表达的相关句型。通过听力练习,进一步巩固所学句型;通过对话表演,让学生在真实情境中进行学习,同时也为第二、三单元的学习扫清语言障碍。
教学目标
通过本单元的教学,让学生达成以下目标:
1.知识目标:
掌握单词和短语:March, April, June, Women’s Day, National Day, Children’s Day, July, August, September, October, November, December, writer, find out, real, at the age of, newspaper, exact, date, become, in the 1860s。

Step 1 Warming up
1. Ask the following questions and let students answer according to the pictures.


2. Ask the students to look at the words in the boxes of Activity 1.Match the festivals with the months.

3. Ask the students to talk about when the festivals are.
Step 2 Listening
Listen and choose the correct answer in Activity 2.

[拓展] at the age of在功能上相当于一个when引导的时间状语从句。
The famous scientist died at the age of 86.
= The famous scientist died when he was 86 years old.

3.He wrote for a newspaper. 他为报纸撰稿。
newspaper是可数名词,意为“报纸”。表示读书看报通常用动词read。
My grandfather reads newspapers every night.
我爷爷每天晚上看报纸。
4.But he took the name Mark Twain and became very famous in the 1860s. 不过他在19世纪60年代取名马克·吐温,并变得非常有名。
(1) become连系动词,意为“变得;变成”,过去式是became,后面通常接形容词或名词作表语。
She became happy soon. 很快她变得高兴起来。
The weather becomes hot when summer comes.
夏天到来后天气变得炎热起来。
He became a writer at the age of 26.
他在26岁时成为一位作家。
(2) in the 1860s意为“在19世纪60年代”。“in +the +整十年份+s”或“in+ the +整十年份+’s”表达年代。

Step 6 Pronunciation and speaking
1. Play the recording once without stopping.
2. Play the recording again and stop at the end of each line. Ask the whole class to repeat.
Let the students work in pairs. Ask and answer the questions about Mark Twain in Activity 7.

本单元借助一些图片场景,教授学生用一般过去时描述自己或他人过去的经历。通过练习进一步巩固所学知识;通过讲解课文让学生在具体情境中进行学习,进一步为后面学习扫清语言障碍。

Step 1 Warming up
Show some pictures or PPT of William Shakespeare and his works. Ask and answer.
Who is he?
Can you tell me the name of the following works?

Step 2 Pre-reading
Ask the students to work in pairs. Read the passage and decide what William Shakespeare wrote in Activity 1.
Check the answers in pairs.

Step 3 Listening and reading.
1. Listen to the tape.
2. Read the passage by themselves and put the sentences in the correct order on Page 56.

3. Ask the students to read the passage again and complete the timeline for Shakespeare with the correct form of the words and expressions from the box in Activity 3.

2. Like many people 400 years ago, Shakespeare’s parents didn’t learn to read or write. 像400年前的许多人一样,莎士比亚的父母不识字。

marry的常见用法有:
(1)作不及物动词,意为“结婚”。

(2)作及物动词,意为“娶;嫁”。marry sb.意为“娶/嫁某人”。
Last year, Tom married Linda. 去年,汤姆娶了琳达。
(3) get married意为“结婚”;get married to sb. 意为“与某人结婚”。
He got married to a beautiful girl at the age of 28.
