篇目一
停课不停学,疫情下的在线教学
China’s Ministry of Education said it will carefully arrange work related to national college entrance examinations (高考), which is normally scheduled (安排) in June, to decide whether they should be postponed (延期) this year.

The work schedule will be told to the public in time, said Wang Hui, the director of the ministry’s Department of College Students Affairs.

Students who have a close relationship with the NCP patients or those having a fever or a cough, might need to be put under quarantine (隔离). Other students will need to have their health conditions checked on a daily basis, according to Wang Dengfeng, an official of the Ministry of Education.

Students from Hubei province, especially from the city of Wuhan, will not be able to leave for schools until they meet local requests, and they should be quarantined when they return to their schools, he said.

For students in the countryside, a television channel by China Education Television will start classes on Monday so they can study at home, said Lu Yugang, head of the ministry’s Department of Basic Education. These classes were not made in a hurry. Rather, they are of high quality and were carefully chosen from courses created over the past few years, he said. The ministry also warned schools not to make teachers overwork by requiring them to record every class by phone.

篇目二
疫情下的心理调节

Wearing a mask while sleeping at home sounds a little crazy. But Wu Keying did so during the novel coronavirus outbreak. “I feared that I would be infected. Now I know it’s not necessary to do so. But I am still worried about when the epidemic will end,” said the 13-year-old from Chengdu, Sichuan province. Being stuck inside makes her feel anxious.

In fact, many people have experienced feelings like Wu. Nearly 80 percent of people are deeply worried about the outbreak, while 40 percent strongly fear it, according to a survey released on Jan 27 by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

These emotions (情绪) are normal for people who are going through stressful events, according to Wang Weihua, an expert on positive psychology (积极心理学). “Some stressful reactions (反应) can help us fight the virus,” Wang said. “We take more protective actions, such as wearing masks and washing hands often, for example.”

But if these feelings last too long, it will be bad for our mental (心理的) health, Wang added. So how can we stay positive?

First, we should learn to accept unexpected changes in life, wrote Xiong Kewei, a psychological consultant (咨询师) at Beijing Normal University. We might learn new lessons from these changes, like respecting (尊重) nature and being more responsible (有担当的).

Another useful way to stay positive is to stick to a normal routine (正常作息).

“The key is to take good care of the body, arrange a reasonable schedule, ensure adequate sleep and diet, and get the necessary rest and relaxation,” Zhang Hong, deputy chief physician of Wuhan Mental Health Center, told China Daily.

篇目四

To stamp out bush meat, teach kids first.
杜绝野味,从小抓起

“The meat of masked civets can be eaten and has long been considered a rare precious meat from the mountain,” says the Animal Encyclopedia for Children, a science book published by Wuhan University Press.

But following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, which has been linked to the consumption of bush meat, a reader complained online that the description was improper; the press responded by withdrawing the book from all shops.

The action is welcomed, as some research shows the virus came from dead bats, while others suspect it might have been?transmitted?from bats to pangolins and from them to humans. Whichever animal was the host, researchers are in agreement that bush meat is not safe for consumption, and that masked palm civets, which caused the severe acute respiratory syndrome epidemic in 2003, should definitely be taken off menus.

However, a public outcry alone cannot help. The law prohibits consumption of protected species, but those not on the protected list, like masked palm civets, become sitting ducks for those who love eating wild animals. Without a law in place, one cannot stop restaurants from serving wild animal meat, even though researchers know the dangers they pose.

The first step toward legislation prohibiting bush meat is to build consensus.?

Education is essentia:only when everyone realizes the dangers of eating bush meat will they give up the habit and push for legislation.

And such awareness should begin early. Teaching children from a young age not to consume wild animals will make it easier to ensure they refrain from doing so when they grow up.

The Wuhan University Press encyclopedia has been withdrawn from shops, but that is because the press is located in Wuhan. It is hoped that other press houses across the country browse through their published books and make similar corrections. Striking out consumption of bush meat in children’s reading material is a good way to begin.
