第一课时 (1a-2d)
Master the key words and sentences.

Step 1 Lead-in
T:Do you like going on a school trip?
Ss:Yes.
T:Did you go on a school trip this semester?
Ss:Yes.
T:Where did you go?
Point students to answer.
S1:We went to the amusement park last week.
T:Did you have a good time?
Ss:Yes.
T:What did you do there?
Invite some students to speak.
T:Well, your trip is so exciting. Today we will talk about the school trip in the past. Please open your book.
Step 2 Teach Activity 1a
First, show the following words on the screen:
go for a walk—went for a walk
milk a cow—milked a cow
ride a horse—rode a horse
feed chickens—fed chickens
talk with a farmer—talked with a farmer
take some photos—took some photos
am/is—was are—were do—did
Call attention to the change of each verb's form,and explain the past form of the regular verbs and irregular verbs.
Then lead students to read these phrases and say their meanings.
Have them look at the pictures and match the phrases with them.
Check the answers later.

Step 3 Listening 1b
Before listening
Match the phrases with pictures of 1a.
Get students to write the base verbs of the phrases of 1a.
While listening
Listen and circle the three things Carol did on her school trip in 1a. Show the listening tips before listing.
Check the answers.
Listen again and answer the questions. Get students to look through the questions and then try to answer them.
(1)How was Carol's school trip?
(2)Did she go to the zoo?
(3)Where did she go?
(4)Were there any chickens?
Show the tapescript and get students to imitate.
Imitate the tape and pay attention to the pronunciation.
Bob:Hi,Carol. How was your school trip yesterday?
Carol:It was great!
Bob:Did you go to the zoo?
Carol:No,I didn't. I went to a farm. Look,here are my photos.
Step 4 Teach Activity 1c
Lead students to read the conversations in the picture and 1c.
Then put students into two groups to role-play the conversation. One asks and the other answers.
Next, give students several minutes for them to practice asking and answering questions about Carol's trip like this.
Have them do it in pairs.
Step 5 Listening 2a&2b
Before listening
Look through the sentences of 2a and translate them into Chinese.
While listening
Listen and check(√)the questions you hear.
Check the answers of 2a.
Listen again. Circle T for true or F for false.
Check the answers of 2b.
Step 6 Teach Activity 2c
First, ask students to read the conversation in the box.
Then put students into pairs to make conversations about Carol's trip to the farm like this.
Give them enough time to do it.
As they work, move around the room checking the progress and offering language support as needed.
Finally invite several pairs to act out for the whole class.
Step 7 Teach Activity 2d
First, give two minutes for students to read through the conversation silently.
Then invite some students to answer some questions.
T:What are they talking about?
S1:They are talking about Eric's trip.
T:Where did Eric go last week?
S2:He went to his grandparents' home in the countryside.
T:What did he do there?
S3:He went fishing every day, and he fed chickens with his grandpa.
T:How was the weather there?
S4:It was fine.
T:Did he watch the stars at night?
S5:Yes, he did.
T:Excellent. You have understood this conversation well. Now, read after me,and pay attention to the intonation.
Lead students to read the conversation.
Then put students into two groups to role-play the conversation in turn.

In this period, we've learned the change of verbs' past form and how to talk about the school trip in last week. Through the listening and speaking practice, we mastered the target language and improved our listening and speaking skills.

Step 2 Grammar Focus
1.Read the sentences in the chart.
(方法指导:在读的过程中,注意以Did或Were打头的一般疑问句,答语有何不同。)
2.Ask and answer in pairs.
观察与思考:运用口诀,巧记一般过去时。
动词一般过去时,表示过去发生事;
be用was或用were,have/has变had;
谓语动词过去式,过去时间做标志;
一般动词加-ed,若是特殊得硬记。
否定句很简单,主语之后didn't添;
疑问句也不难,did放在主语前;
如果谓语之前有did,谓语动词需还原;
动词若是was,were,否定就把not添。
Step 3 Teach Activity 3a
Ask students to read the letters in 3a.
Ask students to complete Jim's letter on the left and Bill's reply on the right.
Check the answers. Ask students to pay attention to the past tense verbs.
Explain the language points.

Step 4 Teach Activity 3b
Divide students into several groups.Each student adds a sentence to make a story.Then ask two groups to present their stories to all class.

1.定义:一般过去时态表示过去某个时间发生的动作或存在的状态,常与过去的时间状语连用,如:yesterday,last night,two days ago等。
2.构成:
①肯定句:主语+动词的过去式
I visited my grandfather last weekend.

②否定句
A.be动词作谓语
主语+was/were+not+其他。如:
She was not busy yesterday.
她昨天不忙。
B.实义动词作谓语
主语+didn't+其他。如:
Tom didn't do his homework last night.

③一般疑问句:
A.be动词作谓语
Was/were+主语+其他?
Yes,主语+was/were./No,主语+was not/were not.如:
—Were you at home last night?
——你昨晚在家吗?

——是的,我在。/不,我不在。
B.实义动词作谓语
Did+主语+其他?
Yes,主语+did./No,主语+didn't.如:
—Did you clean your room yesterday?

Next, ask students to finish Activity 2a.
Give them two minutes to do it.

Ask students to read the two diaries again and fill in the chart in 2c.

1.Teach Activities 3a & 3b.
First, ask students to look at the pictures and say what they can see in them.
Then read the diary,and invite four students to complete it according to the pictures.
Correct mistakes later.
After that, ask students to read the complete diary together.
Next,give students two minutes to complete Linda's diary.Have them do it individually.
Finally check the answers.
Invite several students to compare Bob's diary with Linda's diary,and tell the differences and the reasons.
2.Teach Activity 3c.
T:After finishing reading the two diaries in 2b and completing the diaries above, do you know how to write a diary about your school trip?
Ss:Yes.
T:Can you express your feelings and show the reasons?
Ss:Sure.
T:OK.Now write a diary about your own school trip,and explain if you liked it or disliked it and why.Do it individually.
Give students enough time to do it.
As they work, move around the room checking the progress and offering language support as needed.

Invite other students to find out mistakes if any and correct them.

1.Teach Activity 1.
First, ask students to have a look at the words in each column and tell the differences of these changes.
Then encourage students to add more words like this. They may write as many as possible.
Later exchange the work with deskmate for peer-correction.
2.Teach Activity 2.
First, ask students to read through the words in the box. Invite someone to say their past forms.
Then give students three minutes to complete the conversations with the correct forms of these verbs.
Later check the answers.
After that, put students into pairs to role-play the conversations,and then exchange roles in turn.
Step 6 重点句子
1.Then the guide taught us how to make a model robot.然后向导教了我们如何做机器人模型。
在本句中how to make a model robot是“疑问词+动词不定式”结构作taught的宾语补足语。英语中可以接“疑问词+不定式”作宾语补足语的常用动词有advise,ask,show,teach,tell等。如:
He will advise you what to do.
他会建议你们做什么。
Will you show me how to use this machine?
你能教我如何使用这个机器吗?
另外“疑问词+不定式”还可以作主语、动词宾语、介词宾语、表语等。
作主语时,谓语动词常用单数形式。如:
How to divide labor among the workers is still a question.
这些工人之间如何分工仍是个问题。
作动词宾语,能够接此结构作宾语的动词常用的有advise,ask,decide,discuss,explain,forget,know,learn,remember,show,teach,tell等。如:
He has to learn how to collect water.
他得学会怎样收集水。
You should not go rafting unless you know how to swim,and you should always wear a life jacket.
你不要去坐木筏漂流,除非你会游泳,并且你还得穿上救生衣。
可以接“疑问词+不定式”作宾语的介词常用的有about,as,from,in,of,on,with等。如:
He has no idea of how to answer this question.
他不知道怎样回答这个问题。
作表语。如:
The question is which to choose.
问题是挑选哪一个。
2.Everything was about robots and I'm not interested in that.所有东西都是关于机器人的,我对那不感兴趣。
interest用作不可数名词时意为“兴趣,关心,重要性,影响,利息,利益,利害”。用作动词时意为“使发生兴趣,引起……的注意”,其主语多为事或物。如:
I have no interest in your plan。
我对你的计划没有兴趣。
interesting是形容词,主语通常是物。可以作表语,也可以作定语。如:
The book is very interesting.
这本书很有趣。(表语)
That is an interesting film.
那是一部有趣的电影。(定语)
interested是形容词,意为“感兴趣的;对……感兴趣”,主语通常是人,且多用于be/get/feel/become interested in结构中。
a.be interested in sth.对某事感兴趣
b.be interested in doing sth.对做某事感兴趣
He is interested in the film.
他对这部电影感兴趣。
He is interested in playing football.
他对踢足球感兴趣。
