2.Bring some instruments or some pictures of instruments.

Step 2 Teach Activity 1a
Show some pictures.Have students discuss the activities:He/She can dance/swim/sing/...But I can't dance/swim/sing/...and so on.
Point to some pictures and say:He/She can play the violin.But I can't play it.Ask students:Can you play the violin?...Help the students answer in simple ways.
Students look at the picture in 1a.Then read the words and phrases.Let students match the activities with the people.
Check the answers with the class together.
Play a game(What can I do?).

Students work in groups.Then let some students talk to their classmates in front of the class.

Step 3 Listening 1b
Before listening
Look at the picture in 1a.Talk about your favorite club.
Talk(What club do you want to join?).

Use some pictures to help the students talk.
While listening
Play the recording for the first time.Ask the students to listen only.
Listen again to find out the right conversation and number them 1—3.
Check the answer:(2,3,1).

Step 4 Teach Activity 1c
Practice the conversations in 1b in pairs.
Role-play the conversations.
Then ask and answer questions about abilities and clubs to make new conversations.

Step 7 Teach Activity 2d
Play the record for the first time for students to listen and check the pronunciation.
Explain the language points.
Practice in pairs.
Have students act it out.
This is a dialogue.Let students read it first.Then let them read after the teacher.The teacher emphasizes the usages of “want” and “let”.Also,let students pay attention to the phrase “what about...” and make sentences with the important words and phrases.Finally let the students role-play the conversation and make their own conversations.
Step 8 重点词汇
1.情态动词can的用法
情态动词can有一定的词义,但不能独立存在,它必须与动词原形一起构成谓语。情态动词can没有人称和数的变化。
(1)其具体用法如下:
①表示“能、会”,指脑力或体力方面的“能力”。如:
I can speak English.我会讲英语。
Jim can swim,but I can't.吉姆会游泳,但我不会。
②表示“可能”,常用于否定句或疑问句中,指某种可能性。如:
Han Mei can't be in the classroom.韩梅不可能在教室里。
Can he come here today,please?请问他今天能到这里来吗?
③表示“可以”,常用于口语中,指许可或请求做某事。如:
Can I have a cup of tea,please?请问我可以喝一杯茶吗?
补充:①can在口语中可以代替may,表示许可或可以。
②can't在口语中代替mustn't时,表示“禁止”或“不准”。
③情态动词can的过去式could用于现在时,可使语气更委婉、更客气。
(2)情态动词can的基本句型:
①肯定句型:主语+can+动词原形+其他。如:
They can play basketball.他们会打篮球。
You can go to watch TV.你可以去看电视。
②否定句型:主语+can not/can't+动词原形+其他。表示“某人不能(不会,不可能)做某事”。其中can't是can not的缩略式,英国人多写成cannot。如:
You can not pass the ball like this.你不能这样传球。
I can't ride a motorbike.我不会骑摩托车。
③疑问句句型分为一般疑问句句型和特殊疑问句句型两种类型。
一般疑问句句型:
Can+主语+动词原形+其他?表示“某人会(能,可以)做……吗?”用于口语时,常表示请求或许可。其肯定答语用“Yes,主语+can.”,否定答语用“No,主语+can't.”。
注意:答语中作主语的人称代词,应根据问句中的主语作相应的变化。其变化规则为:第一人称问,则第二人称答;第二人称问,则第一人称答;第三人称问,第三人称答。如:
—Can you sing an English song for us?——你可以为我们大家唱一首英语歌吗?
—Yes.——行。(注意:在Yes后面常省略I can)
—Can I skate?——我可以滑冰吗?
—Yes,you can.——可以。
—Can she climb hills?——她能爬山吗?
—No,she can't.——不,她不能。
特殊疑问句句型:
a.Who+can+动词原形+其他?该句型中who相当于主语。如:
—Who can sing in English in your class?——你们班谁会用英语唱歌?
—Lily can.——莉莉会。
b.特殊疑问词(作定语)+名词+can+主语+动词原形+其他?该句型中的特殊疑问词常用how many,how much等。如:
—How many boats can you see in the river?——你能看见河中有多少只船吗?
—Only one boat.——只有一只。
c.特殊疑问词+can+主语+动词原形+其他?该句型中的特殊疑问词常用what,where,when等,一般用肯定陈述句作答。如:
—What can you see in the picture?——你能在图中看到什么?
—I can see some birds and two big trees in it.——我能看到一些鸟儿和两棵大树。
2.play的用法
play the guitar意为“弹吉他”。当play后跟乐器时,要用定冠词the;但play后跟球类时,不加任何冠词。
He can play the drum.他会打鼓。
We go to play football.我们去踢足球。
【拓展】play的其他用法:
(1)play表示“玩(球类)”或“玩棋牌及其他游戏”,此处作宾语的名词前不带任何冠词。如:
play basketball/cards/chess/bridge/badminton
打篮球/打牌/下棋/打桥牌/打羽毛球。
(2)play表示“演奏,弹奏(乐器)”,此处表示乐器的名词前须带定冠词the。如:play the piano/violin。
(3)play表示“装扮、扮演”。如:play a doctor/Lu Xun/the fool扮一名医生/扮演鲁迅/装傻。
(4)play with fire玩火,play with water玩水,play with balls玩球,这些短语中的介词with不能省略。
3.join的用法
join为动词,表示“加入,成为……的一员,连接,结合”等之意。
She wants to join the English club.她想加入英语俱乐部。
Come and join us.来加入我们吧。
Join the two maps together.把这两个地图连起来。
【拓展】(1)join的其他用法:
①结合、连接:Three roads join together here.三条路在此会合。
②参加:join用作及物动词,后接表示人的名词或代词作宾语,表示和这些人一起进行某项活动。
My classmates all go to the zoo,but I don't join them.我的同学都去了动物园,但是我没有和他们一起去。
③join还用来表示参加军队、政党、组织等,成为其中的一员。如:join the Party/League/WTO/the army/the music club入党/入团/加入世贸组织/参军/加入音乐俱乐部。
join=be a member of参加
I want to join the Party.=I want to be a member of the Party.我想入党。
(2)连系动词be与in搭配,有“参加”的意思。如:
Victor is in our rock band.维克托是我们摇滚乐队的成员。
4.want的用法
(1)want的本意为“要,想要,需要,希望。”如:
We want two good musicians for our rock band.我们摇滚乐队需要两位优秀的音乐人。
musicians wanted for school concert/rock band学校音乐会/摇滚乐队招收音乐人(wanted意为“招收、招聘”)
(2)want常见的搭配:want to do sth.想干某事
want sb. to do sth.想要某人干某事
want a go想试一试
5.tell的用法
tell的意思是“告诉,讲述,吩咐”,讲故事或讲笑话多用tell。
She loves to tell stories.她喜欢讲故事。
Can you tell me something about it?你能告诉我一些有关此事的事吗?
【拓展】speak/say/talk
(1)speak意为“说话”,指说话的能力和方式,一般作不及物动词,意为“说话,演讲”,作及物动词时,其后接某种语言。如:
Who wants to speak at the meeting?谁想在会议上发言?
Do you speak Chinese?你会说汉语吗?
(2)talk意为“谈话,交谈”,指相互间的谈话,一般作不及物动词,要和某人谈某事时,后面接介词about或of。如:
Don't talk in class!不要在课堂上说话。
Let's talk to Mr.Green.咱们跟格林先生谈谈吧。
(3)say意为“说出,说过”,强调说话的内容。如:
Can you say it in English?你能用英语说吗?
They say China is great.他们说中国是伟大的。
6.be good at的用法
be good at意为“擅长做某事”,后接名词、代词或v.-ing形式。如:
I'm good at playing chess.我擅长下象棋。
We should be good at learning from each other.我们应该善于互相学习。

Check the homework.
Ask students to read the conversation in 2d together.Then invite some pairs to role-play the conversation.
Revise the names of the clubs they have learnt.Ask a student to do the actions and ask the other students to guess the meanings.
Revise the key sentences.Show some pictures and ask like this:

Can you play the guitar?
Can you sing?
Can you play it well?
What club do you want to join?
Ask students to work in pairs to ask and answer these questions.

First,lead students to read the sample sentence so that they can know how to do this activity.
Then give students three minutes to write questions and answers with the given words and phrases.
Later invite four students to check the answers.

show的用法
show作为名词,表示“表演”,“展览”。如:

【拓展】(1)show还可以用作动词,表示“出示”“把……拿给……看”,一般用两种结构表示这一意思,即show sb. sth.或show sth. to sb.“把某物给某人看”。

我可以看看你的新吉他吗?
(2)show还可以表示“带某人到……”“送某人到……”。如:
Can you show me to the teacher's office?
你能带我去老师的办公室吗?

Play some pieces of music and let them guess what the sound is.
Play the music of guitar.The students can answer in Chinese.Then the teacher says,“It's the sound of guitar.”And show the picture of a guitar and write guitar on the blackboard.
Teach the other new words in the same way:drum,piano,trumpet,violin.
2.Teach Activity 1a.
T:Look at me carefully.Can you guess what I can do?(The teacher acts how to play the instruments.Maybe they can't get the answer at first,so give them some hints.)

T:Our School Music Festival wants musicians.Complete the ad with the words in the box.Then answer me some questions.“How can you be in our school music festival?”“What can you do if you want to join the School Music Festival?”
Let the students have a discussion in groups:How to write a poster?After finishing discussing,ask them to complete the ad with the words in the box.Then correct the answers.
2.Teach Activity 3b.
T:From 3a,we have learnt how to write a poster.Now it's your time to show yourself—make a poster for our school's telent show.Imagine when and where the show will be held and what you can do for the show and find out who can show in the show.
Let students talk about it and make a list of shows,then make a report to the others.
Step 4 Self Check
Ask students to add more words and phrases in each box,then check the answers.
Ask students to add as many words as they can to make phrases.
Let students to write a passage about their abilities and their friends.
After they finish this part,let them say out their sentences and articles and find the best one.
Step 5 重点词汇
1.also和too的区别
这两个词都是副词,又都表示“也是”的意思,但在修辞意味和使用场合上有所不同。它们的区别如下:
一般说来,also用于比较正式(formal)的场合,语气比too庄重;too是惯熟(familiar)的用语,使用范围较广。
also在句中的位置要紧靠动词;too在句中的位置比较灵活,有时插入句中,前后用逗号分开,有时放在句末。
too只能用在肯定句中,不可用于否定句。在否定句中,只能用either;also则可以用在否定句中。如:
You need to go shopping and I need to go shopping,too.
=You need to go shopping and I also need to go shopping.
你需要去购物,我也需要去购物。
2.help的用法
help sb. with sth.意为“帮助某人某事”。如:
Tom often helps me with my English.汤姆常帮我学习英语。
help sb. (to) do sth.意为“帮助某人做某事”。这一结构中不定式的符号to可省略。如:
Maria often helps her mother (to) do the housework.玛丽亚经常帮助母亲做家务。
3.be good with=be friendly with=get on well with,意为“与……相处得好”。如:
He's good with me.他和我相处得很好。
be good to意为“对某人友好”。如:
My teacher is good to us all.我的老师对我们都很友好。
