Section A
第一课时 (1a-2d)
Master the key words and sentences.
(1)Key words:
tiger,elephant,koala,panda,lion,giraffe,cute,lazy,smart,beautiful,scary,kind,kind of,Australia,south,Africa,pet,leg,cat,sleep
(2)Sentences:
—Let's see the lions.
—Why do you want to see them?
—Why do you like them?

—Well,because she's kind of boring.

Step 1 Lead-in
1.Revise some animals by asking questions:
T:What animals do you know?
Student A:Dogs.
Student B:Cats.
Student C:...
2.Play the song “Old Macdonald had a farm”.Ask students to enjoy it.After listening,ask students to say what animals they hear on his farm.Guide students to see more animals in the zoo.
Teach the new words:tiger,elephant,panda,lion,koala,giraffe,cute,lazy,smart,beautiful.(Ask the students to read the words over and over again until they can name each animals fluently.)
Step 2 Presentation
Ask the students to look at the picture in 1a and match the words with the animals in the picture.
Ask the students what their favorite animals are and guide them to tell the reasons.
Step 3 Listening 1b
Before listening
Guide the students to look at the picture and tell them a boy and a girl want to see the animals in the zoo.
While listening
Play the recording for the first time.Students only listen.
Play the recording for a second time.Listen and check(√) the animals they hear in 1a.
Step 4 Teach Activity 1c
Show some pictures and let students practice in pairs.
Ask them to make conversations about the animals in 1a,using the words in the box.
A:Let's see the...

Step 5 Listening 2a&2b
Before listening
1.观看两张有关大象的图片,引导学生感知kind of和very所表示的程度的不同。
2.引导学生看表格,具体了解听力的任务。
While listening
Listen and write the animals you hear.Draw a line from the animals to the description words and the countries they are from.
Check the answers.
Listen again.Complete the conversation with the words in 2a.
Step 6 Teach Activity 2c
First,lead students to read the instruction so that they can know what to do.
Then put students into pairs to make conversations using the information in 2a.
Give them enough time to do it.
As they work,move around the room checking the progress and offering language support as needed.
Later,invite several pairs to act out for the whole class.
Step 7 Teach Activity 2d
First,ask students to read the conversation silently to get the main idea of it.
Then lead students to read together;call their attention to the pronunciation and intonation.Tell them they have to underline the difficult points as reading.
Step 8 重点句子
1.Why don't you like the cat?你为什么不喜欢这只猫?
Why don't you do sth.?=Why not do sth.?为什么不……?表示提供建议。如:
Why don't you try it on?=Why not try it on?你为什么不试穿一下呢?
2.Well,because she's kind of boring.嗯,因为她有点儿无聊。
kind n. 种类
kind的短语:
(1)a kind of 一种
Bamboo is a kind of grass.竹子是一种草。
(2)all/different kinds of 各种各样的
There are all/different kinds of fruits in that store.那家商店有各种各样的水果。
(3)kind of=a little=a bit有点儿,有几分(修饰形容词或副词)。如:
I think pandas are kind of lazy.(修饰形容词)我觉得熊猫有点儿懒。
This math problem is kind of/a little/a bit difficult to him.(修饰形容词)这个数学题对他来说有点儿难。
He speaks kind of/a little/a bit fast.他说话有点儿快。(修饰副词)
3.Why do you want to see them?你为什么想看它们?
why是疑问副词,意为“为什么”,常用来询问原因。以why开头的问句常用“because...”来回答,用来陈述理由。
—Why do you like pandas?——你为什么喜欢熊猫?
—Because they are cute.——因为它们可爱。
4.would like to do sth.想要/愿意做某事。如:
Would you like to play with me?你愿意和我玩吗?
Step 9 课堂小结
In this period,we've learned some words of animals' names and learned how to describe animals and express our feelings about them.Through the listening and speaking practice,we consolidated the knowledge.

Step 2 Grammar Focus
Lead students to read the sentences in the box,and invite some students to explain their meanings.
Have a free talk with students to talk about their favorite animals.
Then conclude the grammar with the students.
Step 3 Teach Activities 3a&3b
1.根据3a设置任务一:引导学生先读方框里的单词,然后补全对话。
2.根据3a完成任务二:结对练习对话。
3.引导学生根据自己对动物的看法快速在3b的空格中写上自己的答案,写完后,小组内互相交流。

Step 5 重点语法
1.特殊疑问句的定义及结构
特殊疑问句通常以what,who,which,when,where,how,how old,how many等开头,对某一具体问题进行提问。
特殊疑问句的基本构成有两种情况:
(1)疑问词+一般疑问句。这是最常见的情况。如:
What's your grandfather's telephone number?你爷爷的电话号码是多少?
Who is that boy with big eyes?那个大眼睛的男孩是谁?
Which season do you like best?你最喜欢哪个季节?
(2)疑问词+陈述句。这时疑问词作主语或修饰主语。如:
Which man is your teacher?哪位男士是你的老师?
我们学过的“What/How about+名词/代词+其他?”也是特殊疑问句,它是一种省略结构。如:
I like English.What/How about you?我喜欢英语。你呢?
What about playing basketball?打篮球怎么样?
2.形容词的用法
形容词修饰名词,用以说明事物或人的性质或特征,通常在句中作定语和表语。
(1)作定语:形容词用以修饰名词或代词one,ones,位于名词或代词前。如:
This is an old book.这是一本旧书。
I want some large ones.我想要一些大号的。
(2)作表语:形容词放在连系动词后,作表语,构成系表结构,说明主语是什么或怎么样,即说明主语的特征。如:
They're very cute.它们非常可爱。
He looks very happy.他看起来非常开心。

Revise some words like tiger,elephant,panda,lion,koala,giraffe,cute,lazy,smart,beautiful,scary,kind,kind of,Australia,south,Africa,South Africa,and ask the students if they like these animals.
For example:

—Yes./No.
—Why?
—Because...
2.Play a game:Test your memory.
在表格内呈现动物名、国家名等单词,观察表格三分钟,尽量记住每个单词在哪个位置,然后把所有单词隐去,教师指定位置,学生采用抢答的方式,以小组为单位,看看最后哪一组学生记住的单词最多,回答的最为准确。
Step 2 Presentation
1.What animals can you see in 1a?教师逐一向学生呈现图片,学生根据图片内容说出图中动物名。
2.引导学生读图片下面的形容词。
3.将图片中的动物与单词匹配,对新词汇进行巩固。
Step 3 Listening 1b&1c
Before listening
Ask students to read the words in 1a for the preparation of the listening exercises.
While listening
Play the recording for the first time.Students only listen.
Play the recording for the second time.Guide the students to circle the words they hear in 1a.
Ask some students to give their answers,and then check the answers together.
Play the record again,and ask the students to write down Mary's and Tony's words in the blank column of the following chart.

In this period,we've learnt some adjectives to describe different animals.At first we reviewed the names of the animals by identifying the pictures.Then we learnt the adjectives by using them to describe these animals.And we've consolidated these adjectives by doing some listening and speaking practice.At last,we made conversations to talk about the animals.

The elephant is one of Thailand's symbols.
But elephant are in great danger.
People cut down many trees so elephants are losing their homes.
Today there are only about 3,000 elephants(over 100,000 before).

Ask students to read the words in 2a and check the animals that they think are in great danger.Give students several minutes for them to read the passage silently to get the main idea.Underline any difficult point at the same time.Check the best title for it after reading.
Then lead students to read it together.Explain some language points at the same time.
Later ask them to read the article again and complete the mind map in 2c.

Ask students to read the words in the box first.
Let students fill in the blanks with the words in the box.

Ask students to read the instructions of 3b and choose which one they would like to write:the panda or their favorite animal.

1.The elephant is one of Thailand's symbols.
“one of+n.”意为“……中的一个”,名词要用复数形式。如:
One of the legs of the table is broken.桌子的一条腿坏了。
He is one of my friends.他是我的一个朋友。
2.But elephants are in great danger.但是大象正处于极大的危险中。
in (great) danger意为“处于(极大)危险之中”,如:
We cannot find the kid.It's dark;she must be in danger now.我们找不到那个小孩。天黑了,她现在的处境一定很危险。
Many species are now in danger.现在很多物种都处于危险之中。
in danger of意为“处于……危险之中。”如:
The patient is in danger of death.那个病人有死亡的危险。
The Jordan River is polluted and in danger of going dry.约旦河已经被污染,且有趋于干涸的危险。
We must wake up to the fact that this kind of animal is in danger of dying out.我们必须意识到这一事实,那就是这种动物正面临灭绝的危险。
