Step 1 Lead-in
The teacher asks the students like this:

Give a new expression which has the same meaning as:How are you? How's it going with you?
Let one student ask:How's it going?
We may answer like this:Terrible! Because it's snowing and it's so cold.
Show a picture of snowy day and children are making a snowman, and pretend to be very cold.
T:How's the weather in the picture?
Ss:It' s snowing/snowy.
Go on with other kinds of weather:sunny, rainy,cloudy, windy.
Teach the other expression:How is the weather?
T:We can also say “What's the weather like?”Well, today we will learn how to talk about weather.Please open your books.
Step 2 Teach Activity 1a
Focus on the picture in 1a.
T:What is the weather like in the picture?
Ss:It's...
Point out the numbered list of words. Read each one and ask students to repeat.
Ask students to match each word with the picture.
T:Write the letter of the picture next to each word. Point out the sample answer.
Then check the answers.

Step 3 Listening 1b
First go through the city names and the students read after the teacher.
Play the recording the first time. Students only listen.
T:You will hear several different conversations.Each one is about the weather in a different city.Point to each city in the picture as it comes up on the tape.
Play the recording a second time. Ask students to write the name of the city in the picture of its weather.
Then check the answers.

Step 4 Teach Activity 1c
First, lead students to read the example conversation in the box.
Then put them into pairs to ask and answer like this:
S1:What's the weather like in Picture a?/How's the weather in Picture a?
S2:It's raining/rainy.
Give them several minutes to practice the sentence structure.
Step 5 Listening 2a & 2b
1.Point to the four pictures and ask “What is the person doing in the picture?”
Have students work in pairs to ask and answer.
2.Ask six pairs to act the conversation out.

B:He is talking on the phone.
②Picture 2:
A:What is the woman doing?
B:She is cooking.
③Picture 3:
A:What is the girl doing?
B:She is making a phone call.

3.Play the recording and ask students to listen and number the pictures. Then check the answers.
4.Point out the list of names and the list of activities in 2b. Ask a student to read each list to the class.
T:Now I will play the recording again. This time, please match each name with an activity. Write the letter of an activity in front of each name.
Play the recording and have students fill in the rest of the answers.
Later check the answers.
Step 6 Teach Activity 2c
First, lead students to read through the example conversation in the speech bubble in 2c so that they can know what to do and how to do this activity.
Then put students into pairs to practice making conversations about the people in 2a.
Give them enough time to do it. As they work,move around the room checking the progress and offering language support as needed.
Finally invite several pairs to act out for the whole class.
Step 7 Teach Activity 2d
First, give students several minutes to read the conversation silently to get the main idea. Ask them to underline any difficult point at the same time. Then lead students to read sentence by sentence together.Explain some language points at the same time.

1.How's the weather in Shanghai?
上海的天气怎么样?
weather,天气情况。询问某地天气情况用“How+be动词+the weather+介词+地点?”如:
How's the weather in New York?
纽约的天气怎么样?
询问天气还可以用what引导的特殊疑问句。如:
What's the weather like today?
今天天气怎么样?
回答用“It's+形容词”或“It's going to+动词”。
It's sunny/rainy/snowy/windy...
天气晴朗/有雨/有雪/多风……
It's raining/snowing.
天正在下雨/下雪。
It's going to rain/snow.
天将要下雨/下雪。
2.—How's it going?——一切都好吗?/情况怎么样?
—Not bad, thanks.——不坏,谢谢!
这里的how与“How's the weather?”中的how一样,都是用来询问状况或情况的。动词go在这里的含义是“(事情)进展,进行”。如:
Everything goes well.
一切顺利。
3.Sounds like you're having a good time.听起来你好像玩得很开心。
have a good time玩得开心,同义短语有have a nice time,enjoy oneself。如:
Today,we have a nice time at the party.
=Today,we enjoy ourselves at the party.
今天,在聚会上我们玩得很开心。
4.Can I take a message for him?我能给他捎个口信吗?
take a message意为“帮某人留言,留信息(给打电话的人留信息)”。如:
When you go back,would you take a message for me?
你回去的时候,能给我带个口信吗?
leave a message留口信,给某人留条
send message发送消息
5.Sure,no problem.当然,没问题。
no problem的用法:
①用来回答感谢(主要用于美国英语中),意为“不用谢;别客气;没什么”。如:
—Thank you very much.——非常感谢你。
—No problem.——没什么。
②用来回答道歉(主要用于美国英语中),意为“没关系;没什么。”如:
—Excuse me for smoking here.——请原谅我在这儿抽烟了。
—No problem.——没关系。
③用来表示同意或愉快地回答请求,意为“没问题;小事一桩”。如:
—Could you post the letter for me?——能帮我寄这封信吗?
—No problem.——没问题。
④用来表示有能力做某事,意为“没问题;不在话下”。如:
—Can you make a kite?——你会做风筝吗?
—No problem.——没问题。
⑤用来表示安慰(也说That's no problem),意为“没问题;那不成问题”。如:
—I left my money at home.——我把钱忘在家里了。
—That's no problem.I can lend you what you need.——那没问题,你要多少我可以借给你。
⑥有时直接用来回答用problem提的问题。如:
—What' s the problem?——有什么问题吗?
—No problem.I can do it.——没问题,我能做到。

Lead students to read together;focus on the pronunciation and intonation.

First,lead students to read through the instructions so that they can know what to do and how to do these two activities.
Then give them enough time to do this task.
As they work,move around the room offering language support as needed.
Later,collect the work and choose the best written ones to present to the whole class.Correct mistakes if any.

Lead students to conclude the important and difficult language points in this unit.

句中的“I'm going to summer school”是用现在进行时表示将来的用法。现在进行时表示将来,常有“意图,安排,打算”的含义,这种用法的句子主语通常为人。如:

2.It's hot in your country now,isn't it?现在你的国家比较热,不是吗?
本句是一个反意疑问句。反意疑问句表示提问人对自己的看法没有把握,需要对方证实。反意疑问句由两部分组成:前一部分是一个陈述句,后一部分是一个简短的疑问句。两部分的人称时态应保持一致。其句型如下:
“陈述部分肯定式+疑问部分否定式”可记为“前肯后否定”。
“陈述部分否定式+疑问部分肯定式”可记为“前否后肯定”。
句子类型:一种是反意的附加疑问句,一种是非反意的附加疑问句。如:
—They work hard, don't they?
——他们工作努力,不是吗?
—Yes, they do./No, they don't.
——对,他们工作努力。/不,他们工作不努力。
—They don't work hard, do they?
——他们工作不努力,是吗?
—Yes, they do. /No, they don't.
