第一课时 (1a-2d)
Master the key words and sentences.
(1)Key words:

Step 1 Lead-in
Teach the new words.
T(use the teacher's hair):Look!What's this?

Step 2 Presentation
1.多媒体展示一些人物图片,在老师的引导下学习有关外貌的单词和短语。
2.学习生词的过程中,关注/θ/和/e/的发音以及句中重读单词。
3.熟练朗读1a中的单词和短语。
4.单词与图片人物搭配,并核对答案。
Step 3 Listening 1b
Before listening
1.认真观察1a图片,在车站门口的几个男孩身边简单注明描述外貌的单词。如:h注明tall,curly hair。
2.自读1a图片中的不完整对话。
While listening
1.播放录音,把1a图片中的对话补充完整。注意有关外貌的关键词,找到Amy的朋友。
2.齐读描述Amy朋友外貌的句子。
3.再播放录音,跟读时注意对话中的重读单词。如:

Step 4 Teach Activity 1c
1.模仿秀:同伴之间模仿1c对话。
2.在老师的示范下分角色表演1c对话,描述你的朋友。

Before listening
1.快速自读三个问题,掌握选择疑问句的用法。
2.找出三个人名David,Sally,Peter,并找出对应的描述外貌的单词。

Step 6 Teach Activity 2c
First,lead students to read the dialogue in the speech bubbles.
Then put students into pairs;one is A,and the other is B.Have them ask and answer questions about the people in the chart in 2b.They may take turns to ask and answer.
Give them enough time to do it.
As they work,move around the room checking the progress and offering language support as needed.
Finally,invite several pairs to act out for the whole class.
Step 7 Teach Activity 2d
1.要求学生两人一组分角色自读2d对话,回答问题:

(1)What do/does+主语+look like?表示“……长得什么样?”,它是询问某人外貌特征的常用句型。回答时可用“sb. is/are+形容词”或“sb.have/has(+形容词)+名词”。

——你弟弟长什么样?
—He is really tall.He has curly hair.
——他个子很高,留着卷发。

他这个人怎么样?(询问性格、品质)
—He is kind and friendly./He is shy.

(2)be of medium build/height中等身材/个头
Our math teacher is of medium build.
我们数学老师中等身材。
My father is of medium height in his forties.
我爸爸中等个儿,四十多岁。
(3)tall与high的用法:
high和tall都有“高”的意思。
①tall指身材的高度,一般用于人和动物,它的反义词是short。
Mike is a tall man.
Mike是个高个男人。
②high一般表示物体的高度,它的反义词是low。
Can you see the high mountain in the distance?
你能看见远处的那座高山吗?
③tall与high都可用来指tree,building,tower(塔)等的高度,但修饰mountain时,只能用high。
2.She has long straight hair.
她留着又长又直的头发。
(1)hair (n.)[U]头发,(动物的)毛发
Who is the girl with long black hair?
=Who is the girl wearing long black hair?
那个留着长黑发的女孩是谁?
Does she like to wear curly hair?
她喜欢留卷发吗?
(2)(n.)[C](一根)头发
The old man has a few grey hairs.
那位老人有几根白发。
【拓展】多个形容词作定语:限定词+形状(大小、长短等)+年龄新旧+颜色+国籍出处+材料+名词。

那是一个(我的)漂亮的蓝色意大利小皮包。
He lives in a small white wooden house.
他住在一个白色的小木屋里。
The girl with long straight black hair is my cousin.
那个留长黑直发的女孩是我表妹。
3.But I may be a little late.
但是我可能会晚一点。
a little修饰形容词,意思是“一点”,与a bit,kind of用法相似。另外它也可修饰名词。
【拓展】few,a few,little,a little的用法
a few/few+可数名词
a little/little+不可数名词
a few/a little为肯定含义,表示“还有一点”。
few/little为否定含义,表示“没有多少了”。
(口诀:有a就有一点点,没a一点也没有)
He has a few friends in Guangzhou.
在广州他有几个朋友。
He has few friends in Beijing.
在北京他几乎没有朋友。
Step 9 课堂小结
In this period,we've learnt how to ask about and describe people's looks.First,we've learnt the new words by matching them with the people in the picture.Then we've practiced using these words by completing the conversation in the picture and doing listening practice.And we've consolidated the target language by making our own conversation to ask about and describe people's looks.When we do listening practice,special attention should be paid to the use of “has” and “is”.

Step 1 Lead-in
T:Now this time,please describe one of your classmates.But don't tell us his or her name.After finishing,let's see if we can guess who he or she is.
Invite several students to take turns to describe one of the classmates,and have other students guess.
After that,encourage students to describe one of their favorite teachers.They can say something about their favorite teachers.Other students guess the teacher's name.
Step 2 Grammar Focus
Review the grammar box.Ask students to read the questions and answers.
Point out that“do”goes with the “you”,“they”questions,and“does”goes with the“he”,“she”questions.
Point to I'm,they're,he's and she's with descriptions of height and build.
T:We use the verb be—am/is/are to talk about how tall someone is or if they're heavy or thin.
Ask students to read the questions and answers.
Step 3 Teach Activity 3a
First,lead students to read through the words and phrases in the box and understand their meanings.
Then invite some students to say the difference between is and has.
T:Who volunteer to tell us?
S:The verb be is always followed by nouns and adjectives,the verb have/has is usually followed by nouns.
T:Great.Now put the words in the correct box.Do it individually.
After students finish doing this activity,check the answers.

Step 4 Practice
1.Teach Activity 3b.
This activity aims to supply the practice to consolidate the difference between verb be and have/has.
Give students several minutes to do this activity.Call attention to the agreement with subject.
Later invite some students to check the answers.

Lead students to read the conversation together and learn how to talk about others' looks.
2.Teach Activity 3c.
First,lead students to read through the instruction so that they can know what to do.
Then give them three minutes to think about these two questions.
Finally collect the work.Choose some representatives to present to the whole class.
Step 5 Teach Activity 3d
First,let students know what they will do.
Then put students into small groups to describe someone in the class in turn,and have other group members guess who he or she is describing.
Give them enough time to do it.
As they work,move around the room checking the progress and offering language support as needed.
Finally invite each group leader to describe someone,and other groups guess the person.
Step 6 课堂小结
In this period,we've mainly explained the use of simple present tense in details,and learned how to describe people's looks using simple present tense.And we've also done some writing practice and a guessing game to consolidate the knowledge.

First,ask students to have a look at the four pictures in 1a and try to describe them in Chinese.
Then lead them to read the listed words in the box and understand their meanings.
Give students three minutes to match the words with the pictures.

T:Now,we'll do some listening practice.You will hear Maria and Danny talking about Tina Brown and Johnny Dean.I'll play the tape twice.The first time,you need to listen carefully and write Tina's job in the chart.The second time,take some notes about Johnny's and Tina's looks,and finish the row“looks like”in the chart.Clear?

Correct mistakes if any.Praise the group members who do best.
