Step 1 观察下列例句:
1. We were having supper when the phone rang.
2. I was watching TV at home last night.
3. This time yesterday Jack was not watching TV. He was repairing his bike.
4. --Were you playing basketball at four yesterday afternoon?
--Yes, I was./ No, I wasn’t
5.Jenny was reading while Danny was writing.
*小归纳:1 过去进行时表示过去某一时刻_________进行的动作,常与at … o’clock. yesterday, ____ that time/moment, then等时间状语连用。
2 过去进行时表示过去某一段时间内持续发生的动作,常与those days, the whole morning /…, from …. to ….. yesterday evening/last …..等时间状语连用。
3. 常用的时间状语:this time/at…. yesterday, _____ nine _____ ten last night, this morning/afternoon, the whole morning, all day, when, while , ____ that time/moment等。
4. 如果两个动作在过去的某个时间内同时发生,两个动作都可用过去进行时,并且用___________(what, while正当……的时候, where, when)连接。
5. while引导的从句一定要用________________时; when引导的从句中动词是短暂动词(如come, ring, arrive等)时,则要用________________时。

Step 2 Practice (练习)
1. Finish Exercise I of U8 Grammar ( Page 144) of Learning Book and then check your answers in groups..
2. Finish Exercise II of U8 Grammar (Page 144) of Learning Book and then check your answers in groups.
Let some groups show their answers of Exercise1 and in front of the class.
Step 3 Consolidation
1. In groups, ask and answer some questions about your classmates’ daily life, using the past continuous tense(过去进行时).Each student must ask 1—2 classmates 4 questions.
2. Write down your classmates’ answers on your learning sheet(学案), using the sentence of “(Name) was/were doing… ”, then copy them on your group report papers, using the past continuous tense(过去进行时).
