阅读理解
A
One
of
the
hardest
things
for
some
writers
to
do
is
coming
up
with
story
ideas.
Here
are
some
suggestions
to
share
with
your
budding
authors.
1.Write
a
story
based
on
a
picture
book.
Many
books
which
are
created
for
young
pre readers
have
no
text,
and
just
pictures.
The
pictures
provide
wonderful
clues
for
a
story
line.In
addition,
they
are
wonderful
ways
for
kids
to
practice
writing
descriptions.
They
can
look
at
the
pictures
and
write
out
detailed
descriptions
of
what
they
see.
2.Write
fan
fiction.
We
all
know
what
it’s
like
to
come
to
the
end
of
a
favorite
story.
We
hate
to
say
goodbye
to
our
favorite
characters.
We
want
to
know
more
about
their
lives.
But
why
wait
for
the
author
to
keep
the
characters
alive
Kids
can
think
about
a
new
situation
for
their
favorite
characters
and
then
imagine
what
they
might
do.
For
example,
Harry
Potter
fans
can
imagine
what
it
might
be
like
if
Harry
and
his
friends
visited
the
United
States
on
Halloween!
Would
they
go
trick or treating
What
would
happen
3.Play
“What
if...?”
This
idea
is
similar
to
fan
fiction,
but
it
can
have
wider
uses.
One
approach
is
to
take
favorite
characters
and
stories
and
imagine
what
would
happen
if
some
part
of
the
story
change.
For
instance,
what
might
have
happened
if
Harry
Potter
had
accepted
Malfoy’s
offer
of
friendship
in
the
first
book
This
method
can
be
used
for
almost
anything!
What
if
time
machines
really
existed
What
if
we
could
travel
through
black
holes
What
if
the
British
had
beaten
the
colonists
in
America
This
method
can
be
used
for
every
interest—science,
history,
anything!
4.Check
the
news.
Teenagers
might
want
to
look
at
the
news
and
imagine
the
details
of
the
stories
behind
the
headlines.
5.Find
sources
online.
Generating
ideas
for
stories
is
a
popular
topic
among
writers,
so
it’s
not
too
difficult
to
find
ideas
online.
If
your
child
loves
to
write,
nurture
it!

New
research
shows
that
intelligence
is
not
fixed
but
can
be
improved
throughout
adulthood
by
family
members,
bright
mates
and
intellectually
challenging
careers.
The
study
challenges
the
commonly
held
belief
that
intelligence
is
fixed
by
the
age
of
about
18.
Scientific
consensus(共识)
suggests
intelligence
is
controlled
by
genes,
with
environmental
factors
such
as
schooling
and
nutrition
playing
a
part
up
to
this
age.
After
this
point,
IQ
scores
become
steady.
But
James
Flynn,
professor
at
the
University
of
Otago
in
New
Zealand,
argues
that
people
can
“upgrade”
their
intelligence
throughout
their
lives.
He
believes
intellectual
stimulation(刺激)
from
other
people
is
important
as
the
“brain
seems
to
be
rather
like
a
muscle—the
more
you
use
it,
the
stronger
it
gets”.
However,
the
opposite
is
also
true—so
people
who
share
a
home
or
workplace
with
the
intellectually
challenged
risk
seeing
their
IQ
levels
nosedive(猛跌)
as
a
result.
Professor
Flynn
analyzed
US
intelligence
tests
from
the
last
65
years
and
created
new
IQ
“age
tables”.
He
found
a
bright
ten year old
with
brothers
and
sisters
of
average
intelligence
will
suffer
a
five
to
ten
point
IQ
disadvantage
compared
to
a
similar
child
with
equally
bright
brothers
and
sisters.
However,
children
with
a
low
IQ
could
gain
six
to
eight
points
by
having
brighter
brothers
and
sisters
and
special
educational
treatment
to
help
pull
them
up.
Professor
Flynn
concluded
that
although
genetics
and
early
life
experiences
determine
about
80%
of
intelligence,
the
remaining
20%
is
linked
to
lifestyle.
This
means
people
can
raise
their
IQ,
or
allow
it
to
fall,
by
ten
points
or
more.
He
suggests
the
best
way
to
improve
IQ
levels
is
to
socialize
with
bright
friends,
and
find
an
intellectually
challenging
job.

American
artist
and

of

books,
Tasha
Tudor’s
art
and
nineteenth century
lifestyle
have
fascinated
adults
and
children
for
decades.
She
received
many
awards
and
honors
for
her
contributions
to
children’s
literature.
When
people
talk
about
her
creativity
in
artwork,
she
said,
“I
do
it
to
support
my
dogs
and
my
four
children.”
Her
great

the
number
of
magazine
stories
that
have
been
written
about
her
over
the
years,
and
her
admirers
have
no

on
her
at

Much
of
Tasha’s
artwork
and
her
reading
are
done
in
the
wintertime.
“I

It’s
delightful,”
she
says.
“I

to

anywhere
because
I
work
at

If
I’m

in,
I

She

from
the
hardship
of
the
New

winter,
and
when

she

when

that
leads
to

Given
her
enjoyment
of
winter
and
her
fantasy(梦幻的)
way
of
life,
it’s
not
surprising
that
Tasha’s
Christmas
is
a
storybook
holiday.
She
hangs
flowers
over
the
front
door.
Her
tree
comes
from
the
woods,
and
it
goes
up
on
Christmas
Eve,
lit
by
handmade
candles
and
decorated
with
her
great grandmother’s
collection
that
dates
from
1850.
In
a
place
of
honor
in
the
tree
are
large
cookies
cut
into
the
shapes
of
her
animals.
The
grandchildren
and
friends
get
presents
from
Tasha’s
old
dolls;
so
do
the
animals
and
they
have
their
own
Christmas
tree.
“Of
course,
it’s
a
known
fact
that
all
the
animals
talk
on
Christmas
Eve,”
she
has
written.
Small,
handmade
gifts
fill
a
big
wooden
box.
At
the
end
of
each
year,
Tasha
can
look
back
and
know
that
her
life
is
perfect,
that
she
has
again
ignored
the
twentieth
century,
and
that
the
magic
continues.
And
for
the
rest
of
us,
here’s
a
bit
of
advice,
Tasha
style:
“Nowadays,
people
are
so
restless.
If
they
took
some
tea
and
spent
more
time
rocking
on
the
porch(门廊)
in
the
evening
listening
to
light
music,
they
might
enjoy
life
more.”

B
You
try
to
enjoy
your
dinner
in
a
garden,
but
several
mosquitoes
fly
around
you
all
the
time.
A
minute
later,
you
have
a
red
bite
on
your
leg.
As
you
madly
wave
your
hands,
trying
to
get
rid
of
these
pests,
you
notice
that
others
seem
completely
undisturbed.
Could
it
be
that
mosquitoes
prefer
to
bite
some
people
over
others
The
short
answer
is
yes.
The
experts
have
proved
that
mosquitoes
do
show
blood
preferences.
But
they
are
not
biting
for
dinner.
Female
mosquitoes
(males
do
not
bite
people)
need
human
blood
to
develop
eggs.
Obviously,
not
just
anyone’s
blood
will
do.
People
with
a
high
level
of
steroids(类固醇)
or
cholesterol(胆固醇)
on
their
skin
surface
attract
mosquitoes.
“That
doesn’t
necessarily
mean
that
mosquitoes
prey
on
people
with
higher
overall
levels
of
cholesterol,”
Butler
explains.
These
people
simply
may
be
more
efficient
at
processing
cholesterol,
and
the
byproducts
of
that
remaining
on
the
skin’s
surface
are
attractive
to
mosquitoes.
“Mosquitoes
also
target
people
who
produce
large
amounts
of
certain
acids,”
explains
John
Edman,
PhD,
spokesman
for
the
Entomological
Society
of
America.
These
acids
can
trigger
mosquitoes’
sense
of
smell,
attracting
them
to
land
on
unsuspecting
victims.
Mosquitoes
can
smell
their
dinner
from
an
impressive
distance
of
up
to
50
meters.
This
isn’t
good
news
for
people
who
give
off
large
quantities
of
carbon
dioxide.
Any
type
of
carbon
dioxide
is
attractive.
And
larger
people
tend
to
give
off
more
carbon
dioxide,
which
is
why
mosquitoes
typically
prefer
adults
to
small
children.
Pregnant(怀孕的)
women
are
at
increased
risk,
as
they
produce
a
greater than normal
amount
of
carbon
dioxide.
Movement
and
heat
also
attract
mosquitoes.
Therefore,
if
you
want
to
avoid
a
mosquito
bite
at
your
next
outdoor
dinner,
find
a
bench
rather
than
a
spot
on
the
volleyball
team.
Here’s
why:
as
you
run
around
the
volleyball
court,
mosquitoes
sense
your
movement
and
head
toward
you.
What’s
more,
the
heat
from
your
sweating
body
draws
them
closer.

why
do
the
female
mosquitoes
bite
people
A.Because
they
feed
on
human
blood.
B.Because
they
like
the

of
human
blood.
C.Because
they
want
to
produce
the

girl
with
normal
levels
of
steroids.

women
are
at
increased
risk,
as
they
produce
a
greater than normal
amount
of
carbon
dioxide.”可知,孕妇更有可能吸引蚊子。

some
ways
to
avoid
mosquitoes’
bites.

(2)不定式作表语时,①表示预定要发生的动作;②当主语是aim,
purpose,
idea,
plan,
wish,
decision,
choice等词时,常用不定式作表语;③主语为what引导的名词性从句时,表语多用不定式。

2.动名词作主语和表语
(1)动名词作主语通常表示抽象的或习惯性的动作。也可用it作形式主语,动名词作真正的主语放在句末。动名词作表语时相当于名词,用于解释主语的内容,表语和主语常常可以互换位置。
◆(2018·北京卷)Traveling

Silk
Road

an
interesting
and
rewarding
experience.
沿着丝绸之路旅行是一次既有趣又有益的经历。
(2)常用于动名词作主语的句型:

MERGEFORMAT
不定式和动名词作主语时,谓语动词都用单数,这是短文改错中经常出现的错误。
(3)现在分词、过去分词都可作表语,但现在分词意为:令人……的;过去分词意为:感到……的。
◆Mike
is
very
interested
in
the
interesting
story.
迈克对这个有趣的故事很感兴趣。
Ⅱ.连系动词
系动词亦称连系动词(Link
Verb),本身有词义,但不能单独用作谓语,后边必须跟表语,构成系表结构说明主语的状况、性质、特征等情况。有些系动词还是实义动词,该动词表达实义时,有词义,可单独作谓语。常见的连系动词有以下几种:状态系动词be,
remain,
keep,
stay;表示“好像,似乎”的系动词seem,
appear;感官系动词feel,
smell,
sound,
taste,
look;变化系动词become,
grow,
turn,
fall,
get,
go,
come等。
◆He

THE
BRONTE
FAMILY
Yorkshire
in
England
was
the
setting
for
two
great
novels
of
the
19th
century.These
were
Charlotte
Bronte’s
Jane
Eyre
and
Emily
Bronte’s
Wuthering
Heights.
The
youngest
sister,Anne,was
also
a
gifted
novelist,and
her
books
have
the
same
extraordinary
quality
as
her
sisters’.
Their
father
was
Patrick
Bronte,born
in
Ireland.He
moved
with
his
wife,Maria
Bronte,and
their
six
small
children
to
Haworth
in
Yorkshire
in
1820.
Soon
after,Mrs
Bronte
and
the
two
eldest
children
died,
leaving
the
father
to
care
for
the
remaining
three
girls
and
a
boy.
Charlotte
was
born
in
1816.
Emily
was
born
in
1818
and
Anne
in
1820.
Their
brother
Branwell
was
born
in
1817.
Left
to
themselves,
the
children
wrote
and
told
stories
and
walked
over
the
hills.
They
grew
up
largely
self educated.
Branwell
showed
a
great
interest
in
drawing.
The
girls
were
determined
to
earn
money
for
his
art
education.
They
took
positions
as
teachers
or
taught
children
in
their
homes.
As
children
they
had
all
written
many
stories.
Charlotte,
as
a
young
girl,
alone
wrote
22
books,
each
with
60
to
100
pages
of
small
handwriting.
Therefore,
they
turned
to
writing
for
income.
By
1847,Charlotte
had
written
The
Professor;
Emily
had
written
Wuthering
Heights;
and
Anne
had
written
Agnes
Grey.
After
much
difficulty
Anne
and
Emily
found
a
publisher,
but
there
was
no
interest
shown
in
Charlotte’s
book.
(It
was
not
published
until
1859.)
However,
one
publisher
expressed
an
interest
in
seeing
more
of
her
work.
Jane
Eyre
was
already
started,
and
she
hurriedly
finished
it.
It
was
accepted
at
once;
thus
each
of
the
sisters
had
a
book
published
in
1847.
Jane
Eyre
was
immediately
successful;
the
other
two,however,did
not
do
so
well.
People
did
not
like
Wuthering
Heights.They
said
it
was
too
wild,too
animal like.But
gradually
it
came
to
be
considered
one
of
the
finest
novels
in
the
English
language.
Emily
lived
only
a
short
while
after
the
publication
of
the
book
and
Anne
died
in
1849.
Charlotte
published
Shirley
in
1849,and
Villette
in
1853.In
1854
she
married
Arthur
Bell
Nicholls.But
only
a
year
later,
she
died
of
tuberculosis(肺结核)
as
her
sisters
had.

1.deserted 解析:考查词形转换。由空前的looked可知,空处应用形容词作表语。deserted意为“被遗弃的”。
2.for 解析:考查介词。exchange...for...意为“用……兑换……”,为固定搭配。
3.was
left 解析:考查动词的时态和语态。根据语境可知,此处表示发生在过去的事情,应用一般过去时;且此处表示“被剩下”,故填was
left。
4.when 解析:考查连词。分析句子结构可知,此处为be
doing...when...句型,意为“正在做……这时(突然)……”。
5.making 解析:考查状语从句的省略。分析句子结构可知,在本句中,While引导的状语从句的主语与主句的主语一致,且从句谓语含有be动词的某种形式,故可将从句主语和be动词省略,将其补充完整为:While
she
was
making
great
efforts
to
run
away。
6.a 解析:考查冠词。make
a
living意为“谋生”,为固定搭配,故填a。
7.vegetables 解析:考查名词复数。vegetable表示“蔬菜”时为可数名词,且其前没有限定词,故用复数形式。
8.to
sell 解析:考查非谓语动词。根据语境可知,空处表示目的,故用动词不定式作目的状语。
9.regularly 解析:考查词形转换。空处修饰动词met,故应用副词。
10.him 解析:考查代词。it
occurred
to
sb.that...表示“某人想到……”,为固定句型,又根据语境可知此处应用第三人称him。

The

THE
BRONTE
FAMILY
Yorkshire
in
England
was
the
setting
for
two
great
novels
of
the
19th
century.These
were
Charlotte
Bronte’s
Jane
Eyre
and
Emily
Bronte’s
Wuthering
Heights.
The
youngest
sister,Anne,was
also
a
gifted
novelist,and
her
books
have
the
same
extraordinary
quality
as
her
sisters’.
Their
father
was
Patrick
Bronte,born
in
Ireland.He
moved
with
his
wife,Maria
Bronte,and
their
six
small
children
to
Haworth
in
Yorkshire
in
1820.
Soon
after,Mrs
Bronte
and
the
two
eldest
children
died,
leaving
the
father
to
care
for
the
remaining
three
girls
and
a
boy.
Charlotte
was
born
in
1816.
Emily
was
born
in
1818
and
Anne
in
1820.
Their
brother
Branwell
was
born
in
1817.
Left
to
themselves,
the
children
wrote
and
told
stories
and
walked
over
the
hills.
They
grew
up
largely
self educated.
Branwell
showed
a
great
interest
in
drawing.
The
girls
were
determined
to
earn
money
for
his
art
education.
They
took
positions
as
teachers
or
taught
children
in
their
homes.
As
children
they
had
all
written
many
stories.
Charlotte,
as
a
young
girl,
alone
wrote
22
books,
each
with
60
to
100
pages
of
small
handwriting.
Therefore,
they
turned
to
writing
for
income.
By
1847,Charlotte
had
written
The
Professor;
Emily
had
written
Wuthering
Heights;
and
Anne
had
written
Agnes
Grey.
After
much
difficulty
Anne
and
Emily
found
a
publisher,
but
there
was
no
interest
shown
in
Charlotte’s
book.
(It
was
not
published
until
1859.)
However,
one
publisher
expressed
an
interest
in
seeing
more
of
her
work.
Jane
Eyre
was
already
started,
and
she
hurriedly
finished
it.
It
was
accepted
at
once;
thus
each
of
the
sisters
had
a
book
published
in
1847.
Jane
Eyre
was
immediately
successful;
the
other
two,however,did
not
do
so
well.
People
did
not
like
Wuthering
Heights.They
said
it
was
too
wild,too
animal like.But
gradually
it
came
to
be
considered
one
of
the
finest
novels
in
the
English
language.
Emily
lived
only
a
short
while
after
the
publication
of
the
book
and
Anne
died
in
1849.
Charlotte
published
Shirley
in
1849,and
Villette
in
1853.In
1854
she
married
Arthur
Bell
Nicholls.But
only
a
year
later,
she
died
of
tuberculosis(肺结核)
as
her
sisters
had.

1.deserted 解析:考查词形转换。由空前的looked可知,空处应用形容词作表语。deserted意为“被遗弃的”。
2.for 解析:考查介词。exchange...for...意为“用……兑换……”,为固定搭配。

left 解析:考查动词的时态和语态。根据语境可知,此处表示发生在过去的事情,应用一般过去时;且此处表示“被剩下”,故填was
left。
4.when 解析:考查连词。分析句子结构可知,此处为be
doing...when...句型,意为“正在做……这时(突然)……”。
5.making 解析:考查状语从句的省略。分析句子结构可知,在本句中,While引导的状语从句的主语与主句的主语一致,且从句谓语含有be动词的某种形式,故可将从句主语和be动词省略,将其补充完整为:While
she
was
making
great
efforts
to
run
away。

a
living意为“谋生”,为固定搭配,故填a。

occurred
to
sb.that...表示“某人想到……”,为固定句型,又根据语境可知此处应用第三人称him。

A
Simple
Thank
I
have
been
in
the
teaching
profession
more
than
thirty
years,
and
one
of
the
best
teachers
I
have
ever
known
was
Mr.__Rowe.
I
was
lucky
enough
to
co-teach
the
fourth
grade
with
him.
Mr.
Rowe
had
infinite
patience
and
understanding
and
I
learned
so
much
from
watching
him.
He
could
perform
miracles,
like
the
one
he
performed
with
Steven,__one
of
the
unhappiest
kids
I
ever
saw.
Steven
couldn’t
stand
school.
He
didn’t
like
being
picked
last
for
kickball.
He
didn’t
like
the
kids
who
raised
their
hands
and
knew
all
the
answers,
and
most
importantly,
he
didn’t
like
himself.
The
first
day
he
walked
into
Mr.
Rowe’s
classroom,
he
ignored
the
other
students,
looking
angry
and
annoyed,
and
slid
into
his
chair,
knocking
a
couple
of
textbook
onto
the
floor.
Mr.
Rowe
walked
over
to
him
and
touched
Steven’s
shoulder,
but
Steven
pulled
away.
Nevertheless,
Mr.
Rowe
welcomed
him:“Hi,
Steven.
I’m
happy
you
are
in
my
class.
We
are
gonna
have
a
great
year.”Steven
looked
around
the
room
as
if
Mr.
Rowe
must
be
mistaken.
No
teacher
in
his
right
mind
would
want
Steven
to
be
part
of
his
classroom.
So,
while
Mr.
Rowe
seemed
cheerful
and
relaxed
that
day
of
school,
it
seemed
like
Steven
was
angry
and
confused.
That
day
after
classes,
Mr.
Rowe
chose
Steven
to
pitch
the
kickball
at
recess.“Hey,
Steven,”Mr.
Rowe
commented.
“You
are
good
at
pitching.
Let
me
show
you
my
secret
trick.”Mr.
Rowe
taught
Steven
one
of
the
tricks
that
not
a
single
kid
could
perform.
Steven
learned
fast
and
did
quite
well!
Everyone
cheered
for
him!
After
the
kickball,
Steven
sat
as
close
to
Mr.
Rowe
in
classes
as
he
could.
When
a
question
was
asked,
Steven
lit
up;
he
knew
the
answer!
He
raised
his
hands.
When
he
answered
the
question,
his
voice
shook.
However,
he
got
the
answer
right!
He
said,
with
Mr.
Rowe,
his
days
of
the
fourth
grade
promised
wonderful.
That
is
not
to
say
that
every
day
went
smoothly,
but
it
was
evident
that
Steven
grew
to
love
Mr.
Rowe
more
and
more
with
each
passing
day.

汽 船
后半夜来了一场暴风雨,大雨倾盆而下。我们躲进了自己事先搭起来的避雨棚,让木筏沿河顺流而下。突然,借着闪电的光亮,我们看到河中间有东西。一开始它看上去像座房子,但后来我们意识到那是一艘汽船。它触礁了,一半沉到水里,一半露在水面上。我们的木筏正径直朝着它驶去。
“看起来它似乎快要沉了,”过了一会儿,吉姆说。
“我们去看看怎么回事儿,”我说。
“我可不想上一艘要沉的船,”吉姆说。但当我提出我们可能会在船上找到一些有用的东西时,他就同意去了。于是我们划了过去,蹑手蹑脚地、悄无声息地爬上了汽船。使我们大为吃惊的是,有间船舱里还亮着一盏灯。接着我们听到一个人的喊叫声:“哦,哥们儿,别杀我!我不会跟任何人说的!”
一个男人用生气的声音回应道:“你在撒谎。上次你也是这么说的。我们要杀了你。”
吉姆听到这些话后,恐惧万分,向木筏跑了过去。而我尽管害怕,但也感到十分好奇,于是就把头凑向了那扇门。四周都很黑,但我能看见一个人被绳子捆着躺在地板上。有两个人围着他站着。其中一个是矮个儿,留着络腮胡子。另外一个是高个儿,手里拿着什么东西,看起来像是一把枪。
“我受够你了。我现在就要毙了你。”这个男子说。显然他就是之前威胁躺在地上的人的那个人。并且握在他手中的确实是一把枪。
“不,别这么做。”那个矮个儿说,“我们把他扔在这儿吧。汽船再过几个小时就沉了,他也就跟船一起沉了。”
听到那句话后,那个在地上已经被吓傻的人开始哭了起来。“听起来他好像就要吓死了!”我想。“我得设法去救他!”
我沿着甲板爬行,找到了吉姆,并告诉他我所听到的一切。我说:“我们必须找到他们的船并弄走它,然后他们就不得不待在这儿了。”
吉姆看上去很害怕,他说:“我不想待在这儿。”但我说服他帮我的忙,我们发现他们的小船拴在汽船的另一边。我们悄悄爬上了小船。当我们划着小船离开时,我们听到那两个人的吼叫声。而那时我们已经离他们有一段安全的距离了。但现在我开始后悔那么做了——我不想让那三个人都死掉。

children
for
decades.
She
received
many
awards
and
honors
for
her
contributions
to
children’s
literature.
When
people
talk
about
her
creativity
in
artwork,
she
said,
“I
do
it
to
support
my
dogs
and
my
four
children.”
Her
great
publishing
record,
the
number
of
magazine
stories
that
have
been
written
about
her
over
the
years,
and
her
admirers
have
no
effects
on
her
at
all.
Much
of
Tasha’s
artwork
and
her
reading
are
done
in
the
wintertime.
“I
love
winter.
It’s
delightful,”
she
says.
“I
don’t
have
to
go
anywhere
because
I
work
at
home.
If
I’m
snowed
in,
I
can
stay
this
way
for
months.”
She
hopes
for
early,
deep
snow
to
protect
her
garden
from
the
hardship
of
the
New
England
winter,
and
when
it
comes
she
puts
on
snowshoes
when
she
needs
to
get
down
the
mile long
dirt
path
that
leads
to
the
road.
Given
her
enjoyment
of
winter
and
her
fantasy(梦幻的)
way
of
life,
it’s
not
surprising
that
Tasha’s
Christmas
is
a
storybook
holiday.
She
hangs
flowers
over
the
front
door.
Her
tree
comes
from
the
woods,
and
it
goes
up
on
Christmas
Eve,
lit
by
handmade
candles
and
decorated
with
her
great grandmother’s
collection
that
dates
from
1850.
In
a
place
of
honor
in
the
tree
are
large
cookies
cut
into
the
shapes
of
her
animals.
The
grandchildren
and
friends
get
presents
from
Tasha’s
old
dolls;
so
do
the
animals
and
they
have
their
own
Christmas
tree.
“Of
course,
it’s
a
known
fact
that
all
the
animals
talk
on
Christmas
Eve,”
she
has
written.
Small,
handmade
gifts
fill
a
big
wooden
box.
At
the
end
of
each
year,
Tasha
can
look
back
and
know
that
her
life
is
perfect,
that
she
has
again
ignored
the
twentieth
century,
and
that
the
magic
continues.
And
for
the
rest
of
us,
here’s
a
bit
of
advice,
Tasha
style:
“Nowadays,
people
are
so
restless.
If
they
took
some
tea
and
spent
more
time
rocking
on
the
porch(门廊)
in
the
evening
listening
to
light
music,
they
might
enjoy
life
more.”

her
enjoyment
of

holiday.”以及最后一段的最后一句“If
they

about
fame.

an

B
You
try
to
enjoy
your
dinner
in
a
garden,
but
several
mosquitoes
fly
around
you
all
the
time.
A
minute
later,
you
have
a
red
bite
on
your
leg.
As
you
madly
wave
your
hands,
trying
to
get
rid
of
these
pests,
you
notice
that
others
seem
completely
undisturbed.
Could
it
be
that
mosquitoes
prefer
to
bite
some
people
over
others
The
short
answer
is
yes.
The
experts
have
proved
that
mosquitoes
do
show
blood
preferences.
But
they
are
not
biting
for
dinner.
Female
mosquitoes
(males
do
not
bite
people)
need
human
blood
to
develop
eggs.
Obviously,
not
just
anyone’s
blood
will
do.
People
with
a
high
level
of
steroids(类固醇)
or
cholesterol(胆固醇)
on
their
skin
surface
attract
mosquitoes.
“That
doesn’t
necessarily
mean
that
mosquitoes
prey
on
people
with
higher
overall
levels
of
cholesterol,”
Butler
explains.
These
people
simply
may
be
more
efficient
at
processing
cholesterol,
and
the
byproducts
of
that
remaining
on
the
skin’s
surface
are
attractive
to
mosquitoes.
“Mosquitoes
also
target
people
who
produce
large
amounts
of
certain
acids,”
explains
John
Edman,
PhD,
spokesman
for
the
Entomological
Society
of
America.
These
acids
can
trigger
mosquitoes’
sense
of
smell,
attracting
them
to
land
on
unsuspecting
victims.
Mosquitoes
can
smell
their
dinner
from
an
impressive
distance
of
up
to
50
meters.
This
isn’t
good
news
for
people
who
give
off
large
quantities
of
carbon
dioxide.
Any
type
of
carbon
dioxide
is
attractive.
And
larger
people
tend
to
give
off
more
carbon
dioxide,
which
is
why
mosquitoes
typically
prefer
adults
to
small
children.
Pregnant(怀孕的)
women
are
at
increased
risk,
as
they
produce
a
greater than normal
amount
of
carbon
dioxide.
Movement
and
heat
also
attract
mosquitoes.
Therefore,
if
you
want
to
avoid
a
mosquito
bite
at
your
next
outdoor
dinner,
find
a
bench
rather
than
a
spot
on
the
volleyball
team.
Here’s
why:
as
you
run
around
the
volleyball
court,
mosquitoes
sense
your
movement
and
head
toward
you.
What’s
more,
the
heat
from
your
sweating
body
draws
them
closer.
【解题导语】 本文介绍了蚊子喜欢叮咬的人群的特点。
5.According
to
the
passage,
why
do
the
female
mosquitoes
bite
people
A.Because
they
feed
on
human
blood.
B.Because
they
like
the
taste
of
human
blood.
C.Because
they
want
to
produce
the
next
generation.
D.Because
they
don’t
like
the
smell
of
people.
C 解析:细节理解题。根据文章第一段倒数第二句“Female
mosquitoes
(males
do
not
bite
people)
need
human
blood
to
develop
eggs.”可知母蚊子需要人血来培养下一代。
6.What

something
to
be
worse.
B.Cause
something
to
be
active.
C.Cause
damage
to
something.
D.Get
back
the
use
of
something.
B 解析:词义猜测题。根据画线词后面的“attracting
them
to
land
on
unsuspecting
victims”可推出,画线词意为“触发,激发”。
7.According
to
the
passage,
who
is
more
likely
to
attract
mosquitoes
A.A
boy
sleeping
on
the
couch.

type
A
blood.
C.A
girl
with
normal
levels
of
steroids.
D.A
woman
who
is
going
to
give
birth
to
a
baby.
D 解析:细节理解题。根据文章大意及第四段最后一句“Pregnant(怀孕的)
women
are
at
increased
risk,
as
they
produce
a
greater than normal
amount
of
carbon
dioxide.”可知,孕妇更有可能吸引蚊子。
8.What
is
the
author’s
purpose
of

this
passage
A.To
teach
some
ways
to
avoid
mosquitoes’
bites.
B.To

马克·吐温的一生
作家们的人生经历往往和他们创造的人物很相似。写了《哈克贝利·费恩历险记》和《汤姆·索亚历险记》的马克·吐温也不例外。首先,作者的名字——马克·吐温,本身就是创造的,或者说是“笔名”。马克·吐温的真名是塞缪尔·克莱门斯。“马克·吐温”意思是“水深二英尺”,这是密西西比河上的水手们用来警告同船水手们他们正在进入浅水区的口号。
像哈克一样,马克·吐温也曾经历了一段冒险的生活。他很早就辍学了,当时还是一名青少年,就决心到南美洲去发财,他从家乡密苏里州的汉尼拔动身去了新奥尔良。他想乘船去亚马逊,他认为在那里他很快就会富起来。当他身无分文地来到新奥尔良时,却发现那里没有开往南美洲的船了。迫不得已他只好改变了计划,在一艘汽船上当了好几年领航员,带着乘客往返于密西西比河,这条大河从加拿大边境附近的美国北部流向墨西哥湾。
后来他成了一名记者并开始写有关河上生活的故事。吐温对河上生活形象而又时常逗人发笑的描述很快就受到了欢迎,这确立了今天他仍然享有的美国最伟大的作家之一的名誉。

When
I
decided
to
write
the
story
of
my
early
years
growing
up
in
poverty,
many
of
my
friends
and
family
members
were
shocked.
They
were
more
interested
in
my
story
of
success,
such
as
how
I
was
able
to
create
the
nation’s
largest
law
firm
and
sell
it
to
a
bank.
“How
does
one
sell
a
law
firm
for
millions
of
dollars?”
That’s
the
story
everyone
wanted
me
to
write,
but
it’s
not
the
story
I
wanted
to
tell.
Looking
back,
I
see
so
clearly
how
often,
throughout
my
boyhood,
I
was
touched
by
the
acts
of
kindness
that
helped
shape
me
into
the
man
I
am
today.
And
the
acts
of
violence
and
ignorance
played
just
a
powerful
role
in
making
me
who
I
am.
Becoming
a
successful
lawyer
involves
hard
work,
but
escaping
generational
poverty
is
the
hardest
thing
I
have
ever
done.
I
chose
to
write
the
story
of
my
childhood
years
in
poverty,
with
the
hope
that
a
child
somewhere
in
the
world
will
read
my
story
and
be
inspired
to
break
the
cycle
of
poverty.
My
publisher
was
quick
to
point
out
that
the
market
would
be
small
for
a
memoir(回忆录)
written
by
an
unknown
author.
To
everyone’s
surprise,
the
book
received
over
1,000
pre publication
orders
one
month
before
the
scheduled
launch
date(发行日).
The
book
launch
scheduled
for
October
1,2009,
was
moved
up
to
September
14,2009.
Less
than
four
months
later,
the
first
print
run
of
5,000
hardbound
copies(精装版)
were
sold
out.
Today,
the
memoir
is
being
used
by
universities,
high
schools
and
middle
schools,
as
a
case
study
of
the
behavioral
example
of
the
culture
of
poverty
as
well
as
valuable
lessons
on
how
to
succeed
in
life.
Here
are
words
from
a

【解题导语】 作者没有将自己在事业上取得的成功写下来,而是选择以自己多苦多难的童年为主题写回忆录,去激励那些生活在贫困中的孩子。起初朋友和家人并没有看好书的销量,然而作者的回忆录却卖得出乎意料地好,并且被用在中学和大学的教学中。

阅读理解
A
One
of
the
hardest
things
for
some
writers
to
do
is
coming
up
with
story
ideas.
Here
are
some
suggestions
to
share
with
your
budding
authors.
1.Write
a
story
based
on
a
picture
book.
Many
books
which
are
created
for
young
pre readers
have
no
text,
and
just
pictures.
The
pictures
provide
wonderful
clues
for
a
story
line.In
addition,
they
are
wonderful
ways
for
kids
to
practice
writing
descriptions.
They
can
look
at
the
pictures
and
write
out
detailed
descriptions
of
what
they
see.
2.Write
fan
fiction.
We
all
know
what
it’s
like
to
come
to
the
end
of
a
favorite
story.
We
hate
to
say
goodbye
to
our
favorite
characters.
We
want
to
know
more
about
their
lives.
But
why
wait
for
the
author
to
keep
the
characters
alive
Kids
can
think
about
a
new
situation
for
their
favorite
characters
and
then
imagine
what
they
might
do.
For
example,
Harry
Potter
fans
can
imagine
what
it
might
be
like
if
Harry
and
his
friends
visited
the
United
States
on
Halloween!
Would
they
go
trick or treating
What
would
happen
3.Play
“What
if...?”
This
idea
is
similar
to
fan
fiction,
but
it
can
have
wider
uses.
One
approach
is
to
take
favorite
characters
and
stories
and
imagine
what
would
happen
if
some
part
of
the
story
change.
For
instance,
what
might
have
happened
if
Harry
Potter
had
accepted
Malfoy’s
offer
of
friendship
in
the
first
book
This
method
can
be
used
for
almost
anything!
What
if
time
machines
really
existed
What
if
we
could
travel
through
black
holes
What
if
the
British
had
beaten
the
colonists
in
America
This
method
can
be
used
for
every
interest—science,
history,
anything!
4.Check
the
news.
Teenagers
might
want
to
look
at
the
news
and
imagine
the
details
of
the
stories
behind
the
headlines.
5.Find
sources
online.
Generating
ideas
for
stories
is
a
popular
topic
among
writers,
so
it’s
not
too
difficult
to
find
ideas
online.
If
your
child
loves
to
write,
nurture
it!

Otago
in
New
Zealand,
argues
that
people
can
“upgrade”
their
intelligence
throughout
their
lives.
He
believes
intellectual
stimulation(刺激)
from
other
people
is
important
as
the
“brain
seems
to
be
rather
like
a
muscle—the
more
you
use
it,
the
stronger
it
gets”.
However,
the
opposite
is
also
true—so
people
who
share
a
home
or
workplace
with
the
intellectually
challenged
risk
seeing
their
IQ
levels
nosedive(猛跌)
as
a
result.
Professor
Flynn
analyzed
US
intelligence
tests
from
the
last
65
years
and
created
new
IQ
“age
tables”.
He
found
a
bright
ten year old
with
brothers
and
sisters
of
average
intelligence
will
suffer
a
five
to
ten
point
IQ
disadvantage
compared
to
a
similar
child
with
equally
bright
brothers
and
sisters.
However,
children
with
a
low
IQ
could
gain
six
to
eight
points
by
having
brighter
brothers
and
sisters
and
special
educational
treatment
to
help
pull
them
up.
Professor
Flynn
concluded
that
although
genetics
and
early
life
experiences
determine
about
80%
of
intelligence,
the
remaining
20%
is
linked
to
lifestyle.
This
means
people
can
raise
their
IQ,
or
allow
it
to
fall,
by
ten
points
or
more.
He
suggests
the
best
way
to
improve
IQ
levels
is
to
socialize
with
bright
friends,
and
find
an
intellectually
challenging
job.
