Yuan Longping, who was born in 1930, is Father of Hybrid Rice. When Yuan graduated from college, hunger was a disturbing problem that was in many parts of the countryside. Yuan, who considers himself a farmer, works the land to do his research. In 1974, he became the first agricultural pioneer to grow rice that has a high output. Now more than 60% of the rice that is produced in China each year is from this hybrid strain. These harvests that have been increased mean that 22% of the world’s people are fed from just 7% of the farmland in China. Thanks to his research, the UN has more tools which can rid the world of hunger in the battle. Using his hybrid rice, farmers are producing harvests that are twice as large as before. Dr Yuan cares little about money or fame and enjoys swimming in the pool which is used for swimming. He believes that a person who is with too much money has more troubles. Dr Yuan is a person who loves and cares for his people.
