After the First World War, a small group of soldiers left the army and returned to the village in France. Most of them did very well, but one of them was poor. His name was Francois Labia.
They held a reunion party in Grinding's house every year. Grinding was a rich man. At one party, Grinding showed his friends a large gold coin. The coin was passed around and praised by everyone there. At the same time they were talking and laughing. They soon forgot about the coin. After supper Grinding asked for the coin, but nobody knew where it was. It was lost. Finally, one of them said that everyone must be searched. One by one they turned out their pockets. Only Labia refused.
“I didn't steal the coin, and I will not be searched,” he said.
Grinding got angry and left the room. From that day, villagers turned their heads from Labia when they met him. He got poorer and poorer.
A few years later, Grinding had his house repaired. A workman found the coin under the floor. Grinding felt sorry and went to Labia to apologize.
“But,” he asked, “You knew the coin was not in your pockets. Why did you refuse to be searched?”

It was that time of year again. Time for the Daddy and Me Dance at school. Sonya could not stand the Daddy and Me Dance. She didn't have father to take her, and Mrs Ellsworth, her teacher, just didn't understand how Sonya felt. She looked at her and suggested that she should bring her uncle to the dance. But Sonya and her mum didn't have any relations. It was just them. As Sonya walked home, she tried to figure out how to get out of mentioning it to her mum this year.
When Sonya got home, though, her mother asked her to sit down because she had something to tell her. It turned out that Sonya's mum knew that the dance was coming up. She had called the school and complained that it wasn't fair to all the children to make the dance specifically for girls and their dads.

My view on homework
Like all the students in the world, I do my homework every day. Doing homework is part of my life. Each of my teachers gives me a certain amount of homework to do. I try to finish them all as quickly as possilbe so that I can have enough time to sleep. However, as a Grade Nine student, I have to spend at least four to five hours doing my homework every night. In my opinion, a student should spend no more than two hours on homework. I am looking forward to the days with less homework to do.
