It’s time to eat the delicious zongzi again. Everyone loves the rice dumplings.
Dragon Boat Festival is a Chinese favourite festival. It is the time we remember the poet Qu Yuan. He jumped into the river on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month of 277 BC.
People threw bamboo (竹子) with cooked rice into the water. They hoped the fish would eat the rice rather than their hero. The customs of eating zongzi and dragon boat races come from this.
People have also believed that the month is a period of danger and disease (病痛). Cleaning becomes very important.
Most families hang calamus (菖蒲) and artemisia (艾草) above their doors. They can stop disease.
Adults send each other pouches (香包) as gifts. But children love them most because they can help them stay healthy.

I Like the Spring Festival
I like the Spring Festival very much because it is a Chinese traditional festival. According to the traditional custom, the Spring Festival lasts from the 23rd day of 12th lunar month to the 15th day of 1st lunar month. Usually I stay up late and set off fireworks on New Year’s Eve. On the first day of 1st lunar month, we usually wear festival dresses and begin to visit or welcome relatives, friends and so on. We greet each other “Happy New Year” and “Happy Spring Festival” and invite guests to drink tea and chat at home. We often eat the dumplings, cakes and candies during the festival. So the Spring Festival is my favourite.
