3. What advice would you give Wendy and her family about being tourists?
Answers will vary, but they will probably recommend spending more time in Shanghai to see the sights and not to walk everywhere!9B Module 2 Unit 3 “Going Places” (While-reading) YOUR TURNHoliday Style – Sight-seeing, Sites and Itineraries
Wendy and her family went sight-seeing in Shanghai. This means they looked at interesting buildings and places.
When we go sight-seeing we often visit tourist sites. A site means a place or location. These two words “site” and “sight” are pronounced the same but they mean different things.
When you go sight-seeing you may visit some tourist sites! Wendy’s family followed an “itinerary”. An itinerary is a list of places to visit. It is like a schedule, but instead of showing the times to do something, it shows the order in which to visit different places. The dictionary definition of “itinerary” is “a planned route or journey”.
We are going to make a holiday itinerary, but first we need to find our holiday style! Take the quiz and write down the letter of the answers you chose.
9B Module 2 Unit 3 “Going Places” (Post-reading) Find your holiday style:

Relaxation is your holiday plan. A nice hotel with a spa and lounge is your paradise! You don’t need to go anywhere else. You want to read and relax.

G Snow Bunny
Running like a rabbit through the snow is your holiday dream. After playing in the cold, you eat lots of hot soup and noodles to keep warm. You’d love Harbin and the Ice-festival! Find the letter you answered the most! That’s your STYLE.
Now that you know your style, do ONE of the following:
1. Find 3 other students with different styles. Plan an itinerary for visiting Shanghai that will satisfy everyone’s style. Make a map of your itinerary (see Wendy’s map for an example) and present your holiday to the class.
2. Plan an itinerary for Hangzhou – Westlake or any other Chinese tourist destination with which you are familiar. Present your itinerary to the class.
3. Form groups according to holiday style, choose a destination and create an itinerary for it. Present your itinerary to the class.
