1. He came up with an idea for hybrid rice in the 1960s. Since then, he has devoted himself to research and to the development of new varieties. 20世纪六十年代，他产生了种植一种杂交水稻的想法。从那时起，他就一直致力于这项研究以及新品种的开发。
（1）come up with意思是“产生；发现”。如：
He could not come up with an answer. 他想不出答案来。

Because用来引导原因状语从句，相近的词或词组有：since, as, for, now that等。注意下面区别：because it rained yesterday, I didn’t go to the meeting.

since then意为“自那以后”，常用于现在完成时。
