Defending her title
格斗“女王”张伟丽成功卫冕。
People had high expectations for this match - and their expectations were met. On March 7, Chinese MMA (mixed martial arts,综合格斗) fighter Zhang Weili beat her Polish opponent (对手) Joanna Jedrzejczyk in Las Vegas. Zhang successfully defended (卫冕) her strawweight(草量级) UFC (终极格斗冠军赛)title.
Both women are known as top fighters.Zhang.30.won China's first and only UFC belt last year in Shenzhen.Jedrzejczyk,32,is a former five-time defending champion in the 115-pound group.
But this year's novel coronavirus outbreak made Zhang's training harder than usual. She had to travel from Beijing to Thailand and then to Abu Dhabi before arriving in Vegas, about a week later than planned. Worse still, before the match, Zhang was offended(激怒) by a social media post by Jedrzejczyk. In a mock(假装的) poster, Jedrzejczyk wears a gas mask (防毒面具) standing behind Zhang, making fun of the outbreak.
The post caused criticism (批评) and was later removed. Zhang said she was fired up to make Jedrzejczyk pay for the tasteless joke in the octagon(八角格斗场).
In the end,Zhang scored a narrow win (险胜) over Jedrzejczyk in the fight. Both ended up in the hospital because of the fierce (激烈的) fight.
“All fighters deserve (值得) respect from one another in the octagon. I don't like people hitting each other with trash talk,” said Zhang following her victory.
“Now the virus situation is not just affecting China, but the whole world. I hope everybody in the world can stand together to fight the virus with a united (联合的) effort,"she said.

Paralyzed man walks using robotic suit
外骨骼的初步尝试

A man who is paralyzed from below his shoulders has been able to walk using a robotic suit. The 28-year-old man could not move his arms, hips and legs after an accident. Doctors fitted him with a special robotic exoskeleton - this is a machine that covered his arms, legs and body. The machine was attached to the ceiling so the man could keep his balance and not fall over. He controlled the machine using high-tech sensors that were implanted near his brain. The man used his thoughts to tell the sensors to move the machine. His brain sent messages to the machine and it moved his arms and legs. He was able to walk a few steps using the machine even though he was paralyzed.
?
Doctors say they are in the early stages of developing this technology. They believe robotic exoskeletons will help disabled people to live better lives in the future. Technology will be able to pick up signals from the brain to control wearable robotic technology. The next stage is to remove the ceiling harness. A neurosurgeon who co-led the exoskeleton trial commented on the exoskeleton suit. He said it was the first wireless, brain-controlled system to be designed that can move all four limbs. The man was very happy with the test. He said: "I can't go home tomorrow in my exoskeleton, but I've got to a point where I can walk. I walk when I want and I stop when I want."
