Module 5 Cartoons
Unit 1 It’s time to watch a cartoon.
设计说明
首先通过学生熟悉的动画片导入学习主题Cartoons,让学生在学习本单元新单词的基础上通过听力练习了解如何对动画片进行评价;再通过大量的听说训练逐渐能够就动画片和动画人物进行询问和应答,表达出自己的观点态度,并掌握本单元核心词汇和重要结构的用法。同时从中体会一般现在时、一般过去时和现在完成时三种时态在具体语境中的运用。
教学目标
通过本单元的学习,让学生达成以下目标
1.知识目标:
掌握单词和短语:cartoon, handsome, smart, sky, fight, cool, hero, humorous, laugh, lesson, can’t help doing sth.
2.能力目标:
(1)能够识别对话中提及的卡通故事和人物
(2)能够识别说话人对卡通故事及人物的态度
(3)学会询问和回答关于卡通故事和人物的信息
3.情感目标:
学会倾听他人对卡通片的看法;养成关心、帮助他人的良好品质;认识到动画片的悠久历史和灿烂的文化

重点:对话中不同时态的运用,固定结构can’t help doing sth. It’s time to do sth.及I (don’t)think...的运用

Step 1 Warming up
1.Show some pictures of cartoons to students and ask them to say out their names.


2. Ask students the following questions and let them answer them.
(1)What kind of cartoons do you like?
(2)Do cartoons always end in a happy way?
(3) What cartoons do you think are funny?
Step 2 Learning about new words
Let students know the meanings of the following new words with the help of pictures and so on.
cartoon, handsome, smart, sky, fight, cool, hero, humorous, laugh, lesson, can’t help doing sth.
Lead the students to read the new words three times or more.
Step 3 Listening and speaking
Ask the students to listen to the tape and find out Betty’s and Tony’s answers to the following questions.
(1)What kind of cartoons does Betty/Tony like?
Answer:Betty likes exciting cartoons. Tony likes funny cartoons.
(2)Do Betty and Tony think cartoons always end in a happy way?
Answer:Yes, they do.
(3)What cartoons do they think are funny?
Answer:They think Tom and Jerry is funny.
Ask the students to look at the words in Activity 2. And then work in pairs to practice speaking with these words.
For example:
S1:What kind of cartoons do you like?
S2: I like ... cartoons.
S1:What’s your favourite cartoon?
S2:My favourite cartoon is...
Step 4 Listening, reading and practice
Ask the students to listen to the dialogue and answer the following question.
How many cartoons are there in the dialogue?
A.Two B.Three C.Four
Ask the students to listen to the dialogue again and answer the following questions.
(1)Which cartoon does Daming want to watch?
(2)Which cartoon does Tony want to watch?
(3)Do they both like Tom and Jerry?
Ask the students to role-play the dialogue with their deskmate.
Ask the students to read the dialogue by themselves and then answer the following questions.
(1)What does Tony think about Spiderman?
Answer: It’s more modern and Spiderman is cool.
(2)Why does Daming think Superman is better?
Answer: Because he’s stronger than Spiderman. He can fly through the sky and fight bad people and he is a real hero.
(3) Why do they both like Tom and Jerry?
Answer: Because Tom and Jerry is a humorous cartoon. Tom and Jerry are very funny.
(4)What lesson can Tony learn from Tom and Jerry?
Answer: They fight a lot, but they really love each other. Sometimes they protect each other and work together.
Ask the students to find the following words in the dialogue and say their meanings.
Ask the students to complete Activity 4 and check their answers.

Ask the students to work in pairs to describe their favourite cartoon character or the characters in Activity 5.
For example:

Step 5 Language points
1. Do cartoons always end in a happy way? 卡通片常以快乐的方式结束吗?
in a … way 表示“以一种……的方式”。
2. It’s time to watch a cartoon.是时候看卡通片了。
It’s time (for sb.) to do sth. 表示“到(某人)做某事的时候了”。
It’s time for sth./It’s time for doing sth.表示“该做某事的时候了”。
It’s time to have breakfast.
=It’s time for breakfast/ having breakfast.
该吃早饭了。
3. He can fly through the sky and fight bad people.他能在空中飞并且打败坏人。
fight v. (fought, fought) 与……战斗

Step 6 Pronunciation and speaking
1.Let the students read the sentences of Activity 6.
2.Let the students read the sentences again and ask them to try underlining the words the speaker stresses.
3.Let the students listen to the tape and check their answers.
4.Show the correct answers to the students.
5.Let the students listen to the tape again and read after the tape aloud.
6.Ask the students to work in pairs to ask and answer the questions in Activity 7.
Step 7 Homework
1. Read and retell the dialogue.
2.Remember the words and expressions of Unit 1.

Unit 2 Tintin has been popular for over eighty years.
设计说明
首先由学生们感兴趣的动画人物引入到课文主题——介绍动画人物。在学习本单元新单词后,先通过速读让学生们对课文结构和内容大体了解,之后通过精读和对笔记的补充完善来了解文章细节,再通过练习掌握重要单词的运用,之后通过学生对文章中一般现在时、一般过去时和现在完成时的运用体会总结三种时态的不同用法。最后让学生通过小组活动获得信息并根据本单元对动画人物的介绍写一篇关于自己喜欢的动画片的文章。
教学目标
通过本单元的学习,让学生达成以下目标
1.知识目标:

Step 1 Warming up
1.Show some pictures of cartoon characters. Ask students who they are.


2.Ask students the following questions:

Ask students to read the passage quickly and answer the following questions.

Step 4 Careful reading
Let students read Para.1 and complete the following notes.

everywhere / somewhere / anywhere都与“某地”有关,区别如下:
(1) everywhere意为“在各个地方;处处”,相当于here and there,一般用于肯定句中。
(2) somewhere意为“在/到某处”,一般用于肯定句中。但在预料会得到肯定回答的疑问句中仍用somewhere。
(3) anywhere表示“在/到某处”时,一般用在否定句或疑问句中; 当表示“任何地方”时,则可以用在肯定句中。

invent 用作及物动词,意为“发明,创造”,发明本来没有、被创造出来的东西。

5. Snoopy lives in his own private world and finds real life hard to understand.
史努比生活在自己的私人世界里,认为现实生活很难理解。
这里的句法结构是:“find + 宾语 + 宾语补足语”, real life 是宾语,hard to understand是宾语补足语。另外,“……很难/容易回答、相处、解决、理解”等都可以用这一结构表达,即…is hard/difficult/easy to answer/get along with/solve/ understand等。
The question is difficult to answer.这个问题很难回答。
He is easy to get along with.他很容易相处。
The problem is difficult to solve.这个问题很难解决。
The story is easy to understand. 这个故事很容易懂。
Step 8 Writing
Let students write down the names of their favourite cartoons.
Ask students to work in groups to ask and answer the following questions.

Teach students how to write a passage: My favourite cartoon.

Ask students to write a passage using their answers.
Ask some students to show and read their passages.

设计说明
首先复习现在完成时态、一般现在时和一般过去时,然后带领学生学习这三种时态之间的区别;通过课本活动1-2练习三种时态的运用,通过活动3巩固重点词汇,通过活动4、5练习听力技能,通过活动6和Around the world练习学生阅读能力,最后通过Making a cartoon引导学生将所学知识与实践相结合进行运用,锻炼学生的综合能力。

1 Teach students to learn the differences between the three tenses.
现在完成时与一般现在时的区别
1. 用法不同
A: I eat breakfast every morning.
B: I have eaten breakfast this morning.
A句表示过去、现在、未来都要发生的事,这件事是一种习惯或反复。 B句是现在完成时,用于发生在过去的事但对现在仍有影响,或过去的行为一直持续到现在。B句的意思是:我今天早晨吃饭了,表明吃了早饭(可能现在还不饿)。
2. 时间状语不同
一般现在时表示的是当前一段时间持续的动作或者存在的状态,所以在一般现在时中经常会有时间状语every day, on Sundays, often, sometimes 等词出现。
现在完成时中会有一些标志性词语:already, yet, ever, just, since+过去的时间点, for+时间段,so far, up to now, till now等。
现在完成时与一般过去时的区别
现在完成时和一般过去时所表示的动作都是发生在过去,所以在实际运用中很容易混淆二者的用法。现在我们就一起来看看现在完成时和一般过去时的区别。
1.侧重点不同
现在完成时和一般过去时所表示的动作都发生在过去, 但它们所强调的重点不同: 现在完成时侧重于对现在的影响; 而一般过去时侧重于某一动作发生在过去某个时间或某段时间,即现在完成时侧重于现在的结果,而一般过去时侧重于动作发生的时间。如:
I have seen the film.我看过这部电影。(现在我仍记得电影的内容)
I saw the film three days ago. 三天前我看了这部电影。
(强调是三天前,而不是别的什么时候看的电影)
Mr. Green has bought a new computer.
格林先生买了一台新电脑。
(着重点是格林先生现在有了一台新电脑)
Mr. Green bought a new computer yesterday.
格林先生昨天买了一台新电脑。
(强调的是格林先生买新电脑的时间是昨天)
2. 时间状语不同
现在完成时常与already, yet, just, ever, never, before等副词以及“for+段时间” “since+过去时间/从句”等时间状语连用;而一般过去时则常与“一段时间+ago”, just now, yesterday, last week等表示过去时间的状语连用。如:
She has lived here since two years ago.她自两年前就住在这里了。
She lived here two years ago. 两年前她住在这里。
He has been in the League for three years. 他入团已经三年了。
Tom wrote a letter to his parents last night.
昨晚汤姆给他的父母写了封信。
【注意】
句子中如有过去时的时间副词(如yesterday, last week, in 1960),不能使用现在完成时,要用过去时。如:?
Tom has written a letter to his parents last night.? (错)
Tom wrote a letter to his parents last night. (对)
常见的短暂性动词和延续性动词的对应表如下:

Step 4 Listening
1.Let students look through the pictures and discuss in pairs and then number the pictures in the correct order.
2.Let students listen to the tape and check their answers.

3.Teach students some listening tips.
When you’re listening, do not stop paying attention when you hear a word you do not know. Keep listening. The word might not be important, or the speaker may say something to explain its meaning.
4.Let students listen to the tape again and answer the following questions.
(1)Why does Betty not think the cartoon is funny at first?
(2) Why does Tony think the cartoon is really clever?
Answers:(1)Because she does not understand it at first.
(2) Because the policeman could catch the man in the lift, but he doesn’t. They both just stand there, waiting for the lift to stop!
Step 5 Reading
Ask the students to read the passage of Activity 6 by themselves and fill in the blank at the end of the passage.

2.Ask the students to read “Around the world” by themselves and learn about some classic American cartoons.
Step 6 Module task—Making a cartoon
1.Ask the students to talk about their favourite cartoons and decide on the kinds of cartoon hero they would like to create in groups.
2.Lead students to talk about how to develop the heroes according to the following aspects:
What are they like?
What do they look like?
What do they do?
How will they win people’s hearts?
3.Ask students to decide who will write the story and who will do the drawings in the group.
4.Ask students to make their cartoon after class.
Step 7 Homework
1.Make your cartoons in groups.
2.Review what you have learned in this module and master them by heart.
