Analysis of the teaching material
This lesson is from Unit 4, the second semester of Grade Eight, published by Hebei Education Press, which focuses on the theme of: The Internet Connect Us. This is the second lesson of this unit, in the previous lesson, we’ve discussed how do you use the Internet, and in this lesson, we will talk that computer can help us search the information on the Internet.
Analysis of the students ’learning
Students in Grade Eight are active in thinking and fast in changing of their cognition development since they are in puberty. So, in learning English, they not only want to know the knowledge from the text, but also expect more information such as exotic culture to widen their eyesight. This lesson can attract students’ interests, and inspire their thirst for knowledge and desire for exploration about learning English and knowing western culture on the Internet.
Teaching goals
1. Knowledge and skill aims
Students can get new words and phrases such as: laptop; enter; key; topic; hide; search engine; depend on; Easter Bunny.
Students can be able to search for the useful information on the internet.
2. Process and method aims
Instruct students to make mind map to help them understand the article.
Cultivate students’ comprehension skills by listening and reading.
3. Emotion, attitude and value aims
Cultivate students’ international awareness and widen their eyesight about the western culture, meanwhile, this lesson should give students a deeper feeling of the merits about the Internet.
Teaching focus
Master the words and phrases, and the meaning of the text.
Students can get in touch with the outside world, and begin to form their international awareness.
Difficult points
Students can improve their comprehension skills.
Students can make a new thinking map about an important festival in spring in China.
Teaching approach
I will use TBLT (Task Based Language Teaching) approach and Audio- visual method to grasp students’ interests and cultivate students’ comprehensive language application ability.

Teaching procedures
1. Lead- in
Play a joke on students and lead in
T: Good morning everyone! I prepare some gifts for you. Monitor, come here and open it.
Monitor: There is nothing in it.
T: I’m sorry; I just want to play a joke on you. You are all April fools. Do you know when April Fools’ Day is
Ss: April First.
T: So, it is a festival in spring right
Ss: Yes.
T: Can you tell me more festivals in spring
T: Here I got some pictures of a western festival. Do you have any ideas about this festival Yes, it’s Easter. What do you know about Easter If we want to search some useful information about Easter, we can get help from the internet. How can we search information from the Internet (Show students the pictures of some search engine, such as Google and Baidu.)
T: We can enter some key words into search engine, and find information on this topic. (Type “Easter” into PPT and there will be a popup picture of “culture tip”)Here is a culture tip, let’s read it.
T: Our friend Wang Mei is studying Easter, too. She also seeks help from the internet. Let’s listen and read what have she found.
2. Presentation\
(1) New words:
Teach students new words and they complete sentences.
(2) Listening
a. Listen to the first part and fill in the blanks.
b. Listen to the second part and write true (T) or false (F).
(3) Fast reading: Let’s Do It! No. 2.
Read the lesson and fill in the blanks.
(4) Intensive reading: Let’s Do It! No.3.
Read the lesson again and fill in the mind map.
(5) Language points
Explain the language points and students do some exercise.
3. Practice
Divide the class into 3 groups, group 1 read the first paragraph, group 2 read the second and third paragraph, group 3 read the fourth paragraph.
4. Task: Let’s Do It! No. 4.
T: Do you know an important festival in spring in China Discuss in your group and make a mind map for it.
Students work in groups in this part, teacher can help students to determine their topic, and give them some certain information, and list some useful sentence structures. For example:
Ask some students to show their mind map on the stage, and give evaluation properly.
5. Summary
Play a short video of Easter, and ask students to express their feelings of it in one sentence. Then, ask them how can I get this video (I get it from the Internet.) Tell students if we want to know more about other countries’ culture, we should make good use of the internet.
6. Homework
Search on the internet and find the information about the western holiday—Halloween. Then, make your own mind map. (You can use computer to make your thinking- map more beautiful.)
