核心素养测评三 Unit 3 Looking good, feeling good

Ⅰ. 阅读理解
A
China will give the green light to Internet medical services conducted by medical institutions as part of a broader push to promote Internet Plus Healthcare, which was decided at a State Council executive meeting held by Premier Li Keqiang.
Medical institutions will be allowed to provide online diagnostic services for patients with common and chronic diseases in their follow-up visits to their doctors. The top levels of hospitals will be encouraged to provide online services, including consultations(会诊), reservations and test result inquiries.
As China joins the ranks of middle-income countries, the demand for health services has increased accordingly. Internet Plus Healthcare can help reduce the problem of inaccessible and expensive public health services that have long been a big concern for the general public.
One decision coming out of the meeting says the intelligent review of health insurance will be applied and that the one-stop settlement will be advanced. The real-time sharing of prescription and drug retail sales will be explored as well.
“We must waste no time in pushing forward the measures once the decision is made, ” Li said. “In recent years, top-level hospitals in major cities have seen steady increases in the number of patients. Medical bills have become a heavy burden on families and high-end medical resources still fall short of meeting the growing demand of the public. ”
To solve the problem, a two-pronged(双管齐下的) approach must be taken. One is to establish medical partnerships to strengthen cooperation between major hospitals and community clinics. The other is to bring forward Internet Plus Healthcare to promote the sharing of quality medical resources.
The government will see to it that long-distance healthcare services cover all country-level hospitals. So more efforts will be made to ensure that high-speed broadband network will be extended to cover medical institutions in urban and rural areas. Dedicated Internet access services will be set up to meet the needs for long-distance healthcare services.

At around 9: 30 pm, Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital launched a 5G real-time remote video consultation with its medical team on a patient admitted to Changning County Hospital of TCM for a suspected spleen rupture (脾脏破裂).
According to Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital, the 5G emergency rescue system, which puts artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (增强现实), virtual reality and drone (无人机) applications together, allows a series of medical checks including blood tests, electrocardiograms and ultrasounds (心电图和超声波) to be given to patients right away. The information can then be transferred back to the hospital in real time, which greatly saves time in rescuing patients.
The rescue system also helped a 72-year-old patient who had his bone broken in the earthquake. According to a report from Chinanews. com, a temporary ward supported by 5G technology was established at the epicenter of the disaster zone for consultation with doctors from Chengdu, as the aged patient had a previous history of high blood pressure and cerebral infarction (脑梗塞), which made him need more careful treatment.
“The 5G-based network thoroughly solved the problems of poor definition and distortion (失真) of images, as well as interrupted signal transmission, ” said Li Wei, director of the emergency center of Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital.

(2020·辽宁五校联考)
“We all know that exercise is good for us, but can you get the benefits without actually doing the exercise? ” asks Michael Mosley.
Having a hot bath or a sauna is a good way to soothe your arms and legs after exercise, but what happens if you do it instead of exercise? Dr Steve Faulkner of Loughborough University asked me to take part in an experiment comparing the relative benefits of having a long, hot bath versus an hour of hard cycling.
For this study I join a group of volunteers who have all been fitted with monitors which continuously record blood sugar levels. Keeping your blood sugar level within the normal range is an important measure of your “metabolic” fitness.
The first part of the experiment is very relaxing, consisting of having a long, hot bath. While I sit in the bath, which they keep at 40 ℃, Steve closely monitors my core temperature. Once it has risen and stayed there, I am allowed out.
A couple of hours after my bath I have a light meal. Since we want to see how having a hot bath compares with exercise we repeat the experiment.
So what’s the result?
“One of the first things that we were looking at, ” Steve says, “is the energy expenditure while you’re in the hot bath and what we found was an 80% increase in energy expenditure just as a result of sitting in the bath for the course of an hour. ”
This is nothing like as many calories as cycling for an hour (which comes out at an average of 630 calories), but we do burn 140 calories, the equivalent of a brisk 30-minute walk.

Standing on one leg is a simple way to assess someone’s risk of suffering a stroke(中风), suggests a new study.
Researchers have found struggling to balance on one leg for 20 seconds or longer is linked to an increased risk of small blood vessel (血管) damage in the brain and is likely to reduce thinking ability.
“Our study found the ability to balance on one leg is an important test for brain health. Individuals showing poor balance on one leg should receive increased attention, as this may indicate an increased risk of brain diseases and cognitive (认知的) decline, ” said Dr. Tabara, a professor at Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine in Japan.
The study, published in the journal Stroke, consisted of 841 women and 546 men, with an average age of 67. To measure one-legged standing time, they stood with their eyes open and raised one leg. The maximum time for keeping the leg raised was 60 seconds. The participants performed the examination twice and the better of the two times was used in the study analysis.
The researchers found that the inability to balance on one leg for longer than 20 seconds was associated with brain diseases without symptoms. Overall, those with brain diseases were older and had high blood pressure than those who did not have such diseases.
Short one-legged standing time was also linked with lower cognitive score. Although previous studies have examined the connection between physical abilities and the risk of stroke, this is among the first studies to closely examine how long a person can stand on one leg as an indication of their overall brain health.
Dr. Tabara and his team also found a strong link between struggling to stand on one leg and increased age.

Dear Jack,
I’m glad to hear that you are interested in the meaning of the dragon in traditional Chinese culture. Here I’m pleased to introduce it to you.
To begin with, as an imaginary animal, the dragon used to be the totem of ancient Chinese people, symbolizing their awe of Mother Nature. In addition, we Chinese call ourselves descendants of the dragon, for the dragon is associated with power, strength and good luck. What’s more, it is believed that people born in the Year of the Dragon are rich and decent.
I hope my letter explains the meaning of the dragon clearly to you. If you have any other questions, just feel free to ask me.
Yours,
Li Hua

One day a man saw an old lady standing on the side of the road. Even in the dim light of day, he could see that she needed help. So he pulled up and got out of his car. He didn’t look safe; he looked poor and hungry. The man could see that she was frightened and knew how she felt. So he said, “I’m here to help you, ma’am. Why don’t you wait in the car where it’s warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson. ”
Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack(千斤顶). He was able to change the tire soon, but his clothes got dirty and his hands were hurt.
As he was tightening up the tire, she rolled down the window and told him that she couldn’t thank him enough for coming to her aid. Then the lady asked how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. He replied, “If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do not let this chain of love end with you. ”He waited until she started her car and drove off.
A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off. It was a dull-looking restaurant. Outside were two old gas pumps. The waitress came over with a sweet smile on her face. The old lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight-month pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger. Then she remembered Bryan.

There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote. “You don’t owe me anything. I have been there too. Somebody once helped me out, the way I’m helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do not let this chain of love end with you. ”Under the napkin were four more $100 bills.
There were tables to clear, sugar bowls to fill, and people to serve, but the waitress made it through another day. That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known how much she and her husband needed? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard. She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, “Everything’s going to be all right. I love you, Bryan Anderson. ”
