Nearly 19 percent of teachers of color(有色人种教师) left their jobs after the 2014~2015 school year. Some left for personal reasons like taking care of their families. But 50 percent said they left because they were dissatisfied with their employment situation, such as poor working conditions, student discipline problems and large class sizes. Thus, taking immediate measures to improve it is our top priority.
For years, researchers have proved the benefits of increasing the share of minority teachers in schools, especially as our public school system has turned to one that is made up mostly of minority students.Teachers of color, who are more likely than their white counterparts to choose to work in racially diverse schools, offer particular benefits to their students.Graduation rates increase among minority students when they are taught by racially similar educators, research shows. They can also serve as positive role models, and their presence reduces the chance of racial discrimination at school.
The Shanker Institute report suggests that the rate of minority teacher hiring is not the whole problem. The problem is what happens after these teachers enter the classroom. These teachers often work in high-poverty rural schools. They are more likely to have less-desirable working conditions.
Diversity is a key component to equality and opportunity.Where there's a diverse teaching workforce, all kids thrive. So solutions must be found at once to turn this trend around.Firstly, schools should develop mentorship programs that support minority teachers once they are in the classroom.Secondly, more money should be spent in improving working conditions in these schools.Of course, school headmasters should also be evaluated on their ability to retain teachers of color.

For Western designers,China and its rich culture have long been an inspiration for Western creative.
“It's no secret that China has always been a source (来源) of inspiration for designers,” says Amanda Hill, chief creative officer at A+E Networks,a global media company and home to some of the biggest fashion (时尚) shows.
Earlier this year, the China Through A Looking Glass exhibition in New York exhibited 140 pieces of China-inspired fashionable clothing alongside Chinese works of art, with the aim of exploring the influence of Chinese aesthetics (美学) on Western fashion and how China has fueled the fashionable imagination for centuries. The exhibition had record attendance, showing that there is huge interest in Chinese influences.
“China is impossible to overlook,” says Hill. “Chinese models are the faces of beauty and fashion campaigns that sell dreams to women all over the world, which means Chinese women are not just consumers of fashion—they are central to its movement.” Of course, not only are today's top Western designers being influenced by China—some of the best designers of contemporary fashion are themselves Chinese. “Vera Wang,Alexander Wang,Jason Wu are taking_on Galliano,Albaz,Marc Jacobs—and beating them hands down in design and sales,” adds Hill.
For Hill,it is impossible not to talk about China as the leading player when discussing fashion. “The most famous designers are Chinese,so are the models, and so are the consumers,” she says. “China is no longer just another market;in many senses it has become the market. If you talk about fashion today, you are talking about China—its influences, its direction, its breathtaking clothes, and how young designers and models are finally acknowledging that in many ways.”

Aerial(空中的)performer Jennifer Bricker was born without legs, but she never let it stop her.
Wrapped in a loop(圈)of red silk hung from the ceiling Jennifer Bricker climbs and twists to the music. Her head hangs down and her strong arms let go as she balances on her back, high above the ground a move that's all the more daring because she has no legs.
Jennifer was a few months old when she was adopted by Sharon and Gerald Bricker. She had big brown eyes,a bright smile, and huge amounts of energy. When a doctor advised her adoptive parents to carry her around in a kind of bucket(桶),they refused.
Jennifer soon learned to walk—and run—on her hands and bottom, and grew up fearlessly climbing trees and bouncing on the trampoline (蹦床)with her three older brothers.“ My parents didn't treat me differently so I didn't grasp the concept that I was different.I knew I didn't have legs but that wasn't stopping me from doing the things I wanted to do.”
At the age of three she was fitted with artificial legs, but she never really took to them—she moved more freely without them.
In 1996 the Olympic Games took place in Atlanta.Jennifer loved to watch the women's gymnastics team, and especially adored the 14-year-old Dominique Moceanu who competed for the US.When Moceanu and the women's team won gold,Jennifer decided she was going to be a gymnast, too. She took up power tumbling, which involves performing floor exercises down a runway. But Jennifer did not want any allowances to be made for her disability.
At the age of 10 she took part in the Junior Olympics and by age 11 she was tumbling champion for the state of Illinois.
Jennifer now travels the world as an inspirational speaker and acts as an aerial performer.

Understandably, most first-time visitors to China want to visit the Great Wall, and the section of the Wall they typically visit is Badaling. But during the seven years when I lived in Beijing,Badaling never particularly appealed to me,as it was just too touristy.
However, being a keen hiker, one day in May 2000,I chose something wilder, more challenging:Simatai. At the entrance to Simatai was a group of persistent vendors trying to sell postcards. One tiny old lady seemed to be shadowing me wherever I went, and I was becoming increasingly mad.I finally ended up running away just to escape this tiny woman.I raced up the Great Wall, powered not by common sense, but by adrenalin(肾上腺素).
Then, halfway up,I stopped and suddenly realised I was rushing along a steep path no wider than a metre and carpeted with loose gravel(沙砾).There were no walls and no railings—only sheer drops on either side.I remembered then that tourists had fallen to their deaths in this section.
My fright to heights kicked in and I stood there completely frozen.I was so paralysed with fear that I was unable to move forwards or backwards.Suddenly,I felt a small hand on my back and a soft female voice telling me,in Chinese, not to be afraid, that she would slowly lead me to the top.
Half an hour later,we reached a section that had a few wall remnants. They blocked the view of vertical drops on either side, which gave me some relief.I was also able to turn around to see who had extended such kindness to me in my hour of greatest fear.It was the tiny old lady who'd been disturbing me,the tiny old lady I'd told a dozen times—eventually shouting at her—that I didn't want any postcards.
