Forgiveness
To forgive is a virtue, but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health.People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.
1 Try the following steps:
Calm yourself. 2 You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure:a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.
Don't wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way. 3 Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.
Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者).Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who caused you pain.Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you. 4 If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.
Don't forget to forgive yourself. 5 But it can rob you of your self?confidence if you don't do it.
A.Why should you forgive?
B.How should you start to forgive?
C.Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.
D.Try to see things from your offender's angle.
E.For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.
F.To make your anger die away, try a simple stress?management technique.
G.If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.

Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
If there is one thing I'm sure about, it is that in a hundred years from now we will still be reading newspapers. It is not that newspapers are a necessity.Even now some people get most of their news from television or radio or the Internet. Many buy a paper only on Saturday or Sunday. But for most people reading a newspaper has become a habit passed down from generation to generation.
The nature of what is news may change. What basically makes news is what affects our lives—the big political stories, the coverage of the wars, earthquakes and other disasters, will continue much the same.I think there will be more coverage of scientific research, though. It's already happening in areas that may directly affect our lives, like genetic (基因) engineering. In the future, I think there will be more coverage of scientific explanations of why we feel as we do—as we develop a better understanding of how the brain operates and what our feelings really are.
It's quite possible that in the next century newspapers will be transmitted electronically from Fleet Street and printed out in our own home.In fact, I'm pretty sure how it will happen in the future. You will probably be able to choose from a menu, making up your own newspaper by picking out the things you want to read—sports and international news, etc.
I think people have got it wrong when they talk about competition between the different media (媒体).They actually feed off each other. Some people once foresaw that television would kill off newspapers, but that hasn't happened. What is read on the printed page lasts longer than pictures on a screen or sound lost in the air.And as for the Internet, it's never really pleasant to read something just on a screen.

I was ten when my family moved to a new place to live.We were total strangers to the new surroundings and I was too shy a kid to make new friends—so before going out into the street for the first time, I had to collect together all the courage I'd had, if I did have that all then.
It was a summer vacation, and there were lots of kids along the street, boys and girls, playing different games. As soon as I appeared on the porch(走廊), one of them shouted, “Look, there is a new boy!”,and they all suddenly seemed to have lost any interest in their activities.
In a second, dozens of curious eyes were focused on me.A deadly silence fell upon the place; they all turned towards me and stood still.Everyone seemed to be waiting for some sort of reaction from me.But as far as I was concerned, the situation was completely strange to me.I was frightened and terribly embarrassed, and I was about to rush back when another voice cried:“New boy, what's your name?”
I can still remember the challenge of overcoming the embarrassment when taking a deep breath.I called back loudly, “Hi, everybody, I'm Victor!”
Then I walked down from the porch and began to talk and play with them.In a quarter of an hour I learned the names of the boys I was playing with.In a couple of days I knew every kid in the community, and a bit later, I made friends with most of them.Gradually, my parents also got to know a lot of people there. We didn't feel strange in our new surroundings any more.
Since then, I have made it my principle to be the first to say “Hi” to a stranger who is new to my surroundings.

Section Ⅰ Introduction & Vocabulary and Reading
能力提升
Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
Do you enjoy reading?Do you read newspapers or magazines?Chances are, if you do any of these activities, your preschool child is on his way to becoming a reader.
The process of learning to read is complex, and one of the most important things to know is that parents can help their children learn to read.As children have conversations with adults, they hear both new and familiar words and their vocabulary grows.
There are many opportunities for adults and children to talk together, such as when riding in the car or in a bus, doing housework like fixing dinner, or bathing and getting ready for bed.A major part of conversation is listening. When children talk, adults listen and respond. Then children listen and respond, and so the flow of conversation happens.
Have you watched your preschool child pretend to read to his younger sisters or brothers?Have you read his favorite story over and over? These experiences tell children that reading is fun.And when things are fun and they are repeated, your child will see letters. He begins to connect them to familiar words, especially the letters that make up his name.A natural next step for him to take is to write the letters.
When children see parents make a grocery list, they want to use a pencil and paper to make their own list.To encourage these beginning writing activities, have pencils, markers, crayons and scrap paper within your children's reach.
The more children get connected with talking, listening, reading and writing, the easier it is for them to become active readers. While you as a parent have a big influence on these early behaviors, it is important to remember that opportunities for literacy experiences happen when you and your child share in the basic routines(日常生活) of everyday life.

When the lazy days of summer arrive and the schedule is filled with swimming, camp, and family vacations, it can be a challenge to find time for learning. But kids' reading skills don't have to grow cold once school's out. Here are some ways to make reading a natural part of their summer fun.
Explore your library.Visit your local library to borrow books and magazines that your kids haven't seen before. Many libraries have summer reading programs, book clubs, and reading contests for even the youngest borrowers. With a new library card, a child will feel extra grownup by borrowing books.
Read on the road.Going on a long car trip?Make sure there are some books at the back seat. When you stop driving, read the books aloud.Get some audio books in libraries and listen to them together during driving time.
Make your own books.Pick one of your family's favorite parts of summer—whether it's baseball, ice cream, or the pool—and have your child draw pictures of it or cut out pictures from magazines.Stick the pictures onto paper to make a booklet(小册子)and write text for it.When you've done, read the booklet together. Reread it whenever you like!
Keep in touch.Kids don't have to go away to write about summer vacation.Even if your family stays home, they can send postcards to tell friends and relatives about their adventures.Ask a relative to be your child's pen pal and encourage them to write each week.
Keep up the reading habits.Even if everything else changes during the summer, keep up the reading habits around your house.Read with your kids every day—whether it's just before bedtime or under a shady tree on a lazy afternoon. And don't forget to take a book to the beach!Just brush the sand off the pages—it's no sweat!
