第二节
Dear Kris,
Sorry to hear that you are going through the isolation period. Since the coronavirus presents
almost no risks to the youth, there is no need to panic. And as you have to stay at home, you might
as well do some reading and workout as well. If you have symptoms like a fever or cough, you
should turn to your local medical agencies for help.
Hope the epidemic in America will improve soon and you will be safe and sound!
Yours,
Li Hua
第三节
Paragraph 1: My dearest, please forgive me for my cheating you all the time. Do you still
remember our first date in the café? Actually it was entirely out of expectation that you accepted
my invitation. Can you imagine how excited but meanwhile nervous I was in face of such a
charming and outstanding young girl? To be frank, I hated salty coffee, but each time we dated,
you volunteered to order salty coffee for me, which tasted strange and bad in my mouth, but sweet
and warm in my heart. I had tried countless times to tell you the truth, but I was afraid of losing
you. (84words)
Paragraph 2: She was shocked by the letter, with the feeling of being cheated. She rose and ran
into the kitchen. Having made a cup of coffee, she put some salt into it. Hardly had her mouth
approached the coffee cup when a strange and bad smell made its way straight into her nose. She
hesitated, and then tried to sip a little. God, she had never had such bad coffee. How could he
tolerate it for his whole life? Instantly she became aware that the man who willingly drank salty
coffee was worth cherishing permanently. (82words)

附:听力材料
Text 1
M: Lisa, we’re going to the park. Do you want to go with us?
W: No. American Idol will begin in just five minutes. You know how much I love the show.
Text 2
M: I’m leaving now. What would you like me to bring you?
W: I want some apples.
M: But I’m not going to the grocery store. I’m going to the restaurant.
W: Then please bring me a lettuce (莴苣) salad. I’m on a diet now.
Text 3
M: Do you know where Peggy Annette Whitson was born?
W: No. Was she born in a big city?
M: No. She was born in the small town of Mount Ayr in southwestern Iowa.
Text 4
W: How much did it cost you to have your hair cut?
M: The haircut just cost me twelve dollars, but I tipped the barber eight dollars.
W: That was really cheap. It cost me fifty dollars to have my hair done last week.
Text 5
W: It seems Americans have a sweet tooth for breakfast.
M: I agree. That’s why they usually eat cake for breakfast, but they don’t call it cake. Instead, they
call it “pancakes with syrup (糖浆)”, muffin (松饼), or a bowl of sweet cereal (麦片) with milk,
which is almost cake.
Text 6
M: Linda, what’s your plan for the weekend?
W: I’m planning to visit Zion National Park. I want to spend the whole weekend there.
M: What can visitors do there?
W: Visitors can hike and ride a bike there. This national park is known for its high red rocks.
Some of them reach 2,000 feet. I want to ride a bike along them.
M: Where will you stay there? At a hotel room or at a friend’s?
W: My uncle’s family lives near the park. They have a room for me.
Text 7
W: Who just called?
M: My friend Susan. She said over the phone that our friend Amy had got injured in a car
accident.
W: I’m so sorry to hear that.
M: I’m afraid I’ve to go to the hospital to help look after her. Her parents are in New York now
and they can’t get back until tomorrow morning. I’m sorry, Melissa, but I can no longer show
you around the city.
W: It doesn’t matter. I think I can get around with this city map. Besides, you’ve already shown
me to the famous attractions. So just go.
M: Thanks.
Text 8
W: What’s Jim doing now?
M: He’s reading a picture book by himself.
W: Honey, don’t you think Jim spends too much time indoors? He watched TV for at least an hour
this afternoon. He used the iPad after watching TV. And now he’s reading. He really should
spend more time outdoors.
M: I know. But where can we take him?
W: To the Edmonton Valley Zoo. They have activities for kids aged from 6 to 10 now. Each day
will feature different zookeeper challenges, from preparing food to cleaning animals’ living
places. They will also help care for small animals.
M: It sounds fun. When can kids go?
W: It’ll last from January 2nd to 5th. The activities begin at 9:00 am and last 7 hours each day.
M: How much does it cost?
W: $185 for each child.
M: That sounds reasonable. Honey, let’s call the zoo for more information and then make a final
decision.
Text 9
M: You don’t look alright. What’s wrong, Karen?
W: I’ll have to talk about education to over two hundred people tomorrow morning. It’s very scary
for me.
M: I can’t believe it. Don’t you teach? You speak to others in public every day.
W: That’s different. I teach 6-year-olds and this time I’ll have to speak to adults in public.
M: So haven’t you done that before?
W: Never. Now I really don’t know what to do.
M: Don’t worry. I often speak to people in public about my company’s products. I know how to do
that. I can give you some good suggestions.
W: That’s great. So what should I do first?
M: First, you should get fully prepared. You’ll be much more confident when you’re prepared.
You won’t be so nervous if you’re confident.
W: That makes sense. What else should I do?
M: Second, you should practice in front of some people. So after you get familiar with your
speech, practice it in front of some friends or your family.
W: OK. I’ll do that.
Text 10
W: Good evening, everyone. In tonight’s Book Time, I’d like to introduce one of the best
children’s books for August 2019. The book is titled I Walk With Vanessa. This wonderful
wordless picture book is for little ones aged 5 to 10 years old. It tells the story of a new girl in
school, Vanessa. The new girl spends her first day in school all by herself. She does not join in
the games, neither does she take part in the classroom activities. As soon as school is over, she
leaves quickly. On her way home, she is badly treated by another child. A girl in her class sees
this incident. That girl spends the entire evening thinking about what she saw, and what she can
do to help. In the morning of the next day, she has an idea. She goes to Vanessa’s home and
walks with her to school. Friends join the walk, and soon the entire school is walking with
Vanessa.
This wonderful picture book teaches children what to do if they see someone badly treated by
others. And it also teaches children that a simple act of kindness can really help.
