Pride and Prejudice
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
In 2003, It ranks Number 2 in the lists of 200 books.
General Idea
Pride and Prejudice is a novel of manners by Jane Austen, first published in 1813.The story follows the main character, Elizabeth Bennet, as she deals with issues of manners(礼仪), upbringing(家教), morality(道德), education, and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of the British Regency(英国统治时期的乡绅/ 地主绅士). Elizabeth is the second of five daughters of a country gentleman living near the fictional town(小说城镇)of Meryton in Hertfordshire, near London.
Darcy is a noble while Elizabeth is from a family of a landed gentry.
