Unit 2 Healthy Eating单元测试B卷(提升)
1、Haad Farang (Haad Sai Yao), Koh Muck
This small but striking bay in Thailand has waters free from riptides (激流), making it safe for families to play water in the sun. As its nick name implies—farang is Thai for foreigners--you will find a large concentration of backpackers here. Still, with only a couple of simple food shops, it’s a far cry from the noises of Chaweng beach on Koh Samui or Kamala on Phuket, which makes it to be one of the top tourist destinations.
Rent a sea kayak (皮划艇) (100 baht, which is around£2 an hour) and go around the corner to Tham Morakot (the Emerald Cave), a winding cave that opens up to a bay walled by thick leaves and often visited by groups of monkeys. It is very inspiring, but to fully appreciate it, be sure to prepare it, be sure to prepare a light to avoid knocking into cave walls and other kayaks. To avoid being crowded, make the trip in the late afternoon.
Where to eat
The Ko Yao Viewpoint Restaurant is the best place for tourists. Drink the sweet cocktails in favour of an icy Chang beer and enjoy the last rays of the bay.
Where to stay
Cheaper hotels of comparable quality are set slightly back in the forest, but if you want beachfront access it’s worth choosing one of the basic hotels at Koh Mook Charlie Beach Resort (bungalows from£32).
Getting there
Fly from Bangkok to Trang with AirAsia (from£30), then take a one-hour Tigerline ship from Hat Yao Pier (£19). Besides, a five-hour ship from Phuket at Rassada Pier (£41) goes directly to the island and will drop passengers at Haad Farang.

2、If a family member blames you for something you have done, it is important to be careful about how you defend yourself. It is not a good idea to use ways that cause hurt, even if they would help you make a valid point. If you can think of an instance where the other person has done exactly what they accuse you of, for example, it would not be good manners to throw it in their face. You should only bring it up if you don’t have a choice. Then, you should make sure that you do it respectfully.
Even if a family member intentionally goes against reasonable wishes you may have, you should understand that people see even the most fundamental things in very different ways. Remember that people are different. If you consider any noise after midnight to be intolerable, for example, others may see it is completely acceptable. It can take them a great deal of time to change their behavior for a demand that they do not understand.
Think about the family conflicts that you are worried about now. Check to see if your parents had similar problems. People who grow up with parents who fight unfairly often repeat the same behavior. Consider changing the unfair habits that you grew up with.
Understand that memories tend to change. In long-standing family disputes, all parties involved tend to have completely different recollections of the original problem.
Families are a curious concept — while family members often feel nothing but annoyed for one another, they will also often be there for them if they should ever be in serious trouble. When you feel resentment for someone, think about how far you would go for them if they happened to be in trouble. It could help soften you. Think about how you care for the other person.
1.Which of the following does the author agree with according to the first paragraph?
A.To fight back to defend yourself. B.To target the problem, not the person.
C.To deal with a man as he deals with you. D.To hurt each other when angry.
2.What does the underlined word “resentment” in the last paragraph mean?
A.Curiosity. B.Kindness. C.Concern. D.Anger.
3.Which of the following statements may the author approve of?
A.Family members share the same memories over family disputes.
B.Parents should set a good example in a family.
C.It’s easy for people to agree on different ideas.
D.You can defend yourself by throwing facts back.
4.What is the best title of the passage ?
A.Think about how you care for other persons. B.Learn to concern about family members.
C.How to deal with family conflicts wisely. D.Learn to accept each other in a family.
3、??? A company in San Francisco, California, has found a way to turn used plastic bottles into women’s shoes.
??? Every day, millions of Americans drink water and other liquids from plastic bottles. More than 60 million of them are thrown away each day. Many of the plastic bottles end up in landfills or are burned with other waste products.
??? A San Francisco start-up company called Rothy’s, however, turns this plastic waste into environmentally friendly shoes. Roth Martin is the company’s co-founder. He explains how they turn plastic into soft material for women’s feet. They take the plastic, clean it, and break it down into small pieces. Then they press them through a device that makes soft fibers. Those fibers are then combined together. This is done by a 3D machine. It is designed to reduce waste while making the shoes. The knitted stuff and the inner part of the shoe are then attached to the shoe’s outer part, called the sole(鞋底). This outer sole is also made from environmentally friendly material: responsibly sourced no-carbon rubber.
??? Rothy’s shoes are sold online. They are flat shoes, with either a rounded or pointed toe. They come in different colors and designs. They cost either $ 125 or $ 145 per pair, depending on the design. After American actress Gwyneth Paltrow discovered them last year, the demand for the shoes grew. Martin says there is no shortage of material to fill that demand. “We’re not going to run out of water bottles any time soon. So we have a limitless supply of material, and I think that is a good sign for our future.” When the environmentally friendly shoes wear out, customers can return them at no cost to a company that uses the recycled materials to make other products.
??? For now, the shoes are only available to be shipped in the United States. However, the company says it will add international shipping in the near future.
1.How are used plastic bottles usually dealt with?
A.They are buried or burned. B.They are used to make shoes.
C.They are changed into soft materials. D.They are returned to factories for reuse.
2.What does the underlined word “knitted” in the third paragraph mean?
A.Attached. B.Fixed. C.Combined. D.Repaired
3.Which of the following directly helped to increase the sales of Ruthy’s shoes?
A.The design and color. B.The reasonable price.
C.The company's advertisement. D.The star power of Gwyneth Paltrow.
4.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To advertise a new kind of shoes.
B.To describe the process of making shoes.
C.To introduce a new way of recycling plastic waste.
D.To stress the importance of environmental protection.
4、Aging happens to all of us, and is generally thought as a natural part of life. It would seem silly to call such a thing a? “disease”.
On the other hand, scientists are increasingly learning that aging and biological age are two different things, and that the former is a key risk factor for conditions such as heart disease, cancer and many more. In that light, aging itself might be seen as something treatable, the way you would treat high blood pressure or a vitamin deficiency.
Biophysicist Alex Zhavoronkov believes that aging should be considered a disease. He said that describing aging as a disease creates encouragement to develop treatments.
“It unties the hands of the pharmaceutical(制药的) industry so that they can begin treating the disease and not just the side effects,” he said.
“Right now, people think of aging as natural and something you can't control.” he said. “In academic circles, people take aging research as just an interest area where they can try to develop interferences. The medical community also takes aging for granted, and can do nothing about it except keep people within a certain health range. ”
But if aging were recognized as a disease, he said, “It would attract funding and change the way we do health care. What matters is understanding that aging is curable.”
“It was always known that the body accumulates damage” he added. “The only way to cure aging is to find ways to repair that damage. I think of it as preventive medicine for age-related conditions. ”
Leonard Hayflick, a professor at the University of California, San Francisco, said the idea that aging can be cured implies the human lifespan can be increased, which some researchers suggest is possible. Hayflick is not among them.
“There're many people who recover from cancer, stroke, or heart disease. But they continue to age, because aging is separate from their disease,” Hayflick said. “Even if those causes of death were removed, life expectancy would still not go much beyond 92 years.”
1.What do people generally believe about aging?
A.It should cause no alarm whatever the circumstances.
B.It should be regarded as a kind of disease.
C.They just cannot do anything about it.
D.They can delay it with advances in science.
2.How do many scientists view aging now?
A.It might be prevented and treated.
B.It can be as risky as heart disease.
C.It results from a vitamin deficiency.
D.It is an irreversible(不可逆转的) biological process.
3.What do we learn about the medical community?
A.They now have a strong interest in research on aging.
B.They differ from the academic circles in their view on aging.
C.They have ways to prevent people's aging process.
D.They can contribute to people's health only to a limited extent.
4.What does Professor Leonard Hayflick believe?
A.Aging is hardly separate from disease. B.The human lifespan cannot be lengthened.
C.Few people live up to the age of 92. D.Heart disease is the major cause of aging.
