Dr.
James
Naismith
is
known
worldwide
as
the
inventor
of
basketball,
one
of
the
world’s
greatest
sports
ever.
James
Naismith
was
born
in
1861
in
Ontario,
Canada.
After
graduating
from
McGill
University
in
Montreal,
Naismith
first
31
as
Kansas
Jayhawks’
athletic
director.
Then
the
young
man
32
on
to
the
International
YMCA
Training
School
in
Springfield,
Massachusetts,
the
USA
in
1891,
where
the
sport
of
basketball
was
33
.
In
Springfield,
Naismith
was
faced
with
the
34
of
finding
a
sport
that
was
suitable
to
play
inside
during
the
Massachusetts
35
for
the
students,
when
it
was
too
cold
to
go
outside.
Naismith
36
to
create
a
game
of
skill
for
the
students
instead
of
one
that
only
37
strength.
He
needed
a
game
that
could
be
played
38
in
a
relatively
(相对地)
small
space.
Naismith
39
to
work.
The
first
game
ball
was
a
soccer
ball.
The
first
baskets
were
peach
baskets
that
Naismith
cleverly
thought
of
40
on
the
wall.
From
there,
the
history
of
basketball
began.
41
,
there
were
9
men
in
each
team,
but
the
objective
(目标)
was
still
the
42

to
pass
the
ball
to
other
43
of
your
team
and
put
the
ball
into
the
opposing
team’s
net,
or
basket.
From
there,
basketball
44
rapidly
like
wildfire.
During
1895,
high
schools
and
colleges
began
to
play
the
game,
and
by
1898,
the
45
Basketball
League
had
been
founded.
After
the
first
game
was
played,
Naismith
46
13
rules,
but
many
more
were
yet
to
come.
47
the
creation
of
basketball,
James
Naismith
had
48
in
other
fields,
mainly
in
sports
physiology
and
what
we
would
today
49
sports
science.
Naismith
watched
his
sport,
basketball,
50
to
many
nations
and
in
1936
basketball
became
an
event
at
the
Berlin
Olympics.
Today
basketball
has
grown
to
become
one
of
the
world’s
most
popular
sports.

B
“The
history
of
the
world
is
but
the
biography
of
great
men,”
argued
Thomas
Carlyle,
the
advocate
of
what
has
come
to
be
known
as
the
“Great
Man
Theory
of
History.”
This
theory
suggests
that
the
broader
movements
and
outline
of
history
all
go
back
to
the
leadership
of
great
individuals
who
had
unique
influence
on
their
times.
Whether
or
not
Carlyle’s
theory
proves
true
is
debatable,
but
that
certain
individuals
cast
long
shadows
is
not.
As
one
who
is
entrusted
with
a
leadership
position,
I
find
it
profitable
to
read
of
others
who
have
led.
Wherever
you
find
me,
you’ll
likely
find
a
good
biography
nearby.
Why
is
this
the
case?
First,
I
find
good
biographies
fascinating.
I’ll
occasionally
read
a
novel,
but
I’ve
never
been
overly
drawn
to
fiction.
I
have
found
myself
unable
to
sleep
while
in
the
struggle
of
the
Battle
of
Britain
in
William
Manchester’s
The
Last
Lion.
For
me,
not
to
read
biographies
would
rob
me
of
pleasure
in
my
life.
Second,
I
find
good
biographies
informative.
A
good
biographer
tells
not
only
the
story
of
a
person,
but
also
of
their
times.
Reading
a
good
biography
is
like
wandering
through
an
intellectual
shopping
mall.
The
first
store
is
what
drew
you
there,
but
you
will
be
pleasantly
surprised
along
the
way
at
what
other
items
grab
your
attention.
You’ll
find
no
better
account
of
the
British
Empire
at
its
peak
than
the
opening
chapters
of
Manchester’s
Visions
of
Glory,
volume
one
of
his
The
Last
Lion.
Strictly
speaking,
a
biography
is
but
a
slice
of
history.
Third,
I
find
good
biographies
relaxing.
Winston
Churchill
once
noted
a
man
who
works
with
his
hands
should
have
a
hobby
that
engages
his
mind,
and
a
man
who
works
with
his
mind
should
have
a
hobby
that
engages
his
hands.
Another
way
to
apply
Churchill’s
saying
is
to
combine
technical,
pen-in-hand
vocational
reading
with
leisurely
biographical
reading.
Indeed,
few
things
are
more
relaxing
to
me
than
winding
down
the
evening
and
entering
into
another
world.
This
is
why
I
love
reading
good
biographies,
and
why
I
pity
the
person
who
neglects
them.
Don’t
be
counted
among
their
number.
53.
What
is
implied
in
the
first
paragraph?
A.
The
author
finds
Carlyle’s
theory
undebatable.
B.
Carlyle
believes
great
men
alone
cannot
create
history.
C.
It
is
debatable
whether
one
should
read
great
men’s
biographies.
D.
The
author
agrees
that
history
is
greatly
influenced
by
certain
men.
54.
What
does
the
underlined
phrase
“other
items”
in
the
third
paragraph
refer
to?
A.
good
biographies
B.
stories
of
certain
times
C.
the
volumes
of
The
Last
Lion
D.
the
chapters
of
the
British
Empire
55.
Which
of
the
following
statements
is
TRUE?
A.
The
author
considers
biographical
reading
enjoyable.
B.
The
author
can
travel
to
another
world
in
the
evening.
C.
The
author
has
fought
many
battles
during
his
lifetime.
D.
The
author
profits
commercially
by
reading
biographies.
56.
What
is
the
author’s
main
purpose
in
writing
the
article?
A.
To
analyze
the
benefits
of
vocational
reading.
B.
To
introduce
to
readers
his
unique
reading
strategies.
C.
To
present
great
men’s
history
through
biography
reading.
D.
To
recommend
biography
reading
through
his
own
experiences.
C
“What
are
you?”
they
ask.
“Guess,”
I
say.
Some
suggest
I
have
Japanese
eyes.
Others
think
I’m
Filipino,
maybe
Indian.
Few
guess
the
truth:
I
am
Mexican
American.
But
it’s
not
like
I’ve
ever
worn
that
name
alone.
I’m
part
of
a
younger
generation
of
Americans
whose
identity
is
shaped
neither
by
where
we
came
from
nor
where
we
ended
up.
My
parents
know
the
California
immigrant
experience
first-hand.
They
grew
up
picking
fruit
in
the
San
Joaquin
Valley,
knowing
what
it
was
to
be
poor,
but
also
knowing
what
it
was
to
be
Mexican.
Wanting
a
better
life
for
their
children,
they
went
to
college
and
got
professional
jobs.
By
the
time
I
was
born,
they
were
fully
accepted
into
the
middle
class.
I
grew
up
in
the
racially
mixed
zones
of
Sacramento,
and
when
my
parents
talked
of
their
years
in
the
fields
it
was
hard
to
connect
those
stories
to
where
we
found
ourselves
now.
By
the
time
I
reached
my
teens,
difference
had
announced
itself.
We
were
all
struggling
for
a
sense
of
individuality,
looking
everywhere
but
where
we
came
from.
Identity
became
goods.
Wearing
certain
clothes
and
liking
certain
kinds
of
music
created
social
categories.
I
became
a
junkman,
sorting
through
the
ruins
of
pop
culture
past
looking
for
the
pieces
of
myself.
In
love
with
the
Beatles,
I
linked
myself
to
England.
Fascinated
by
Japanese
cartoon,
I
took
language
classes
at
the
local
Buddhist
temple.
I
grew
up
American
to
a
fault,
rarely
considering
my
own
people’s
culture
and
humanity.
I
left
Sacramento
and
moved
to
San
Francisco’s
Mission
District
to
put
myself
together
again.
There
I
first
saw
my
people
living
in
a
separate
community
that
had
its
own
language,
one
I’d
never
learned.
My
brown
face
led
people
to
ask
me
for
directions
in
Spanish.
I
could
only
respond
with
a
universally
understood
shrug.
“This
is
what
I
am,”
I
said
to
myself,
looking
at
a
street
full
of
newly
arrived
immigrants.
No,
that
wasn’t
quite
it.
I
corrected
myself:
“This
is
where
I
come
from.”
Is
it
tragic
that
I
grew
up
far
from
my
mother
culture,
discovering
it
so
late
in
life?
I
prefer
to
think
that
my
American
upbringing
has
taught
me
to
apply
insights
from
many
different
cultures
to
my
everyday
life.
I

第三节:
书面表达(35分)
86.阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要(15分)
Throughout
the
past
century
humanity
did
everything
in
its
power
to
control
nature.
We
dammed
earth's
rivers,
chopped
down
the
forests
and
exhausted
the
soils.
Burning
up
fuels,
we
pumped
a
great
deal
of
greenhouse
gases
into
the
air,
altering
the
chemistry
of
the
atmosphere
and
warming
the
planet
in
just
a
few
decades.
And
as
our
population
began
in
the
year
2000
to
be
above
the
billion
mark,
still
spreading
across
the
continents,
dozens
of
animal
and
plant
species
were
dying
out
every
day,
including
the
first
primate(灵长类)to
disappear
in
more
than100
years.
At
the
start
of
the
21st
century
there
were
unmistakable
signs
that
nature
was
beginning
to
take
its
revenge(报复).
Melting
ice
in
both
poles
of
the
earth
suggested
that
the
climate
was
changing
rapidly.
Weather
was
even
more
changeable
than
usual,
giving
some
places
too
little
rain
and
others
too
much.
Fires
raced
across
the
dried
American
West
last
summer,
and
recent
storms
spread
damages
from
Britain
to
China.
No
specific
event
could
be
directly
blamed
on
global
warming.
Floods
and
drought
will
be
more
frequent
and
severe.
Other
sad
signs
from
an
overburdened
planet
include
falling
grain
and
fish
harvests
and
fierce
competition
for
scarce
water
supplies.
But
there
were
also
signs
of
great
awareness.
Connected
by
the
Internet,
hundreds
of
millions
of
people
gathered
for
the
anniversary
of
Earth
Day.
Governments
from
Washington
to
Lima
took
steps
to
protect
the
large
wild
areas
from
development.
Progress
was
made
toward
using
more
renewable
energy
from
the
wind
and
the
sun,
and
new
cars
that
used
both
gasoline
and
electricity
spotted
fuel-economy
statistics.
The
goal
for
the
new
century
is
“sustainable
development”.
Is
that
possible?
It
depends
on
how
well
we
understand
that
humanity
is
part
of
nature,
not
lord
or
master.

During
lunchtime,
Emma
suggested
going
to
the
zoo
to
feed
the
animals
and
her
mom
agreed.
“We’ll
stop
by
the
bakery
and
pick
some
bread
up.
Now
hurry
and
eat
and
then
we’ll
go.
It’s
going
to
be
a
lovely
day.
Grandma
is
coming
with
us.
She’ll
be
here
any
minute,’
mom
said.
Emma
ate
her
lunch
and
then
ran
into
her
room
to
get
her
shoes.
The
problem
was
that
she
could
only
find
one
of
them.
She
looked
under
her
bed,
but
all
she
could
see
were
dirty
towels
and
pants.
She
moved
some
of
her
toys
out
of
the
way,
but
still
couldn’t
find
her
shoe.
After
she’d
checked
everywhere
in
her
room,
she
ran
into
the
kitchen.
“Mom,
I
can’t
find
my
shoe.
Will
you
wait
while
I
look
for
it?”she
asked.
Her
mom
thought
about
how
many
times
she’d
told
Emma
to
clean
her
room
up.
She
whispered
something
to
Emma’s
grandma
and
then
said
to
Emma,
“You
will
have
to
stay
home.
Your
dad
and
I
will
take
Ryan
to
the
zoo.
Grandma
will
stay
here
with
you.”
“No!
Please
wait
for
me.
I
want
to
go
to
the
zoo,”Emma
cried.
“I’m
sorry,
Emma.
I’ve
told
you
a
dozen
times
to
clean
your
room
and
you
ignored
me.
You
can’t
find
your
shoe
now.
It’s
your
own
fault
for
not
doing
as
I
asked.
You
will
stay
home.”
Emma
ran
into
her
bedroom,
crying.
Her
mom
came
to
the
door
and
said,
“Emma,
clean
that
room
of
yours
before
I
get
home.
I’ve
told
grandma
not
to
give
you
any
sweets
until
you
finish
the
work.”
She
went
out
to
the
car
with
Ryan
and
Emma’s
dad
and
then
they
drove
away.
