Analysis of the teaching material
1.Status and fun_ction
This lesson is a reading passage. It plays a very important part in the English teaching of this unit and in the whole senior middle school English, because we should lay particular emphasis on the students’ reading ability. It focuses on the students' abilities to gather information; deal with information; solve problems and the abilities to think and express in English.
2.Analysis of the students
In my class some students have known something about the topic, because they have talked about it in the previous period. But some long sentences are difficult for them to understand. They don’t often use English to express themselves and communicate with others. Some students are not active in the class because they are afraid of making mistakes. So during the lesson, I arrange a variety of activities to let all of them join in to attract their interest and let them be confident and taste the joy of success.

1. Target language
a. Key vocabulary
energy, bean, cucumber, mushroom, lemon, mutton, roast, slim, curiosity, raw, lie, customer, muscle, cheese, protective, frustrated, drive, sugary, body-building, energy-giving,balanced diet, ought to, tired of, get away with, tell lies, be amazed at, do some research
b. Key sentence
Something terrible must have happened if Li Chang was not coming to eat with him as he always did.
He couldn’t have Yong Hui getting away with telling people lies!
2. Ability goals
a. Develop the students reading ability by fast reading and intensive reading and let them learn different reading skills
b. Enable students to talk about their eating.
3. Learning ability goals
Enable the students to learn how to talk about their eating.
4. Emotional aims
Stimulate the students’ sense to form a good healthy eating habit and develop the students’ sense of cooperative learning.

How to improve the students’ reading ability.

Understand the real meaning of healthy eating.
Teaching theories
When I deal with this lesson, I’ll do my best to carry out the theories of the new curriculum--make the students the real masters in class while I, the teacher acts as director;combine the language structures with the language functions and let the students receive some moral education while they are learning the English language.
Teaching methods
a. Fast and careful reading to train the Ss’ reading ability.
b. Asking-and-answering activity to check the Ss’ understanding of the text.
c. Individual, pair or group work to finish each task.
d. Discussion to let every student work in class and encourage them to have their own opinion.
