美国人很具有独立意识,在成年后他们便自力更生,不依赖父母。但这绝不说明他们对家庭毫无温情,只是他们认为依赖别人(包括亲人)是一种羞耻,应该靠个人奋斗去达到目标。当然,他们也有互相帮助的时候。英美人之间的亲属关系相对疏远,在语言中便有所体现,如将爸妈的姐妹统称为aunt,而我国逐一分为伯母、婶母、姨母、姑母、舅母。
英美人的家庭一般民主氛围浓厚,家庭成员之间有时连称呼也很“随便(在我们中国人看来)”。例如:Mike的五

尽管称呼很随意,但英美人特别有礼貌,如Tom的妈妈为Tom盛饭后,Tom会说“Thank
