These
days
there
is
so
much
tempting
technology
to
look
at
smartphones,
tablets,
computer
games
and
T
V
screens.
Much
of
our
children's
entertainment
and
education
comes
from
using
them,
so
it's
no
wonder
that
children
spend
so
much
time
staring
at
them.
But
even
if
the
saying
that
looking
at
a
screen
for
too
long
gives
them
square
eyes
isn't
true,
there
is
still
some
concern
that
it
can
affect
their
eyesight.
So,should
we
be
worried?
Certainly
for
children
who
spend
hours
glued
to
a
screen
there
is
a
concern
that
their
health
might
be
at
risk,
and
their
eyesight
is
worsening,
too.
Although
there's
not
much
evidence
to
prove
this
yet,
recent
findings
have
opened
our
eyes
to
the
issue.
Chris
Hanmond,
consultant
ophthalmic
(眼科的)
surgeon
at
St
Thomas'
Hospital,
says,“We
know
that
short-
sightedness
is
becoming
more
common.
It
has
spread
greatly
in
East
Asia,
Singapore,
South
Korea,
where
about
90%
of
18-yea-
olds
are
now
short
sighted.”Annegret,
expert
at
Moorfields
Eye
Hospital
in
London
says
lack
of
natural
light
seems
to
be
the
key
issue.
She's
suggested
that
children
in
East
Asia
study
a
lot,
using
computers,
smartphones
or
tablets,
and
they
go
outside
less,
which
could
be
a
cause
of
short-sightedness
and
an
increase
in
their
weight.
Wearing
glasses
in
one
solution,
but
it's
not
ideal
(理想的)。
This
leads
to
a
dilemma:
achieving
short-
term
academic
success
or
protecting
your
long
term
eyesight,
It's
always
going
to
be
a
challenge
to
drag
children
away
from
their
screens
and
it's
likely
that
more
and
more
studying
will
be
done
online,
through
a
screen.
But
despite
that,
Professor
Hammond
says,“In
countries
like
urban
China,
where
10%
of
children
in
each
class
per
year
are
becoming
short-
sighted
from
about
the
age
of
six,
there's
an
argument
for
saying
we
should
be
trying
to
prevent
it.
"It's
evidence
we
can't
turn
a
blind
eye
to.
So,
maybe
it's
time
to
hit
the“off"
button
and
get
our
children
outside.

When
you
have
finally
finished
writing
and
you
have
edited
your
work
so
that
it
is
as
polished
as
possible,
you
might
wonder
what
your
next
step
is.
Well,
writing
does
not
have
to
be
a
private
activity;
in
fact,
there
are
plenty
of
people
who
would
be
excited
to
read
your
work!
Therefore,
publication
is
an
important
step
in
your
writing
career.
It
will
help
you
gain
confidence
in
your
abilities
and
receive
feedback
from
a
larger
group
of
people.
If
you
feel
a
little
bit
nervous
about
sharing
your
work
with
a
huge
crowd,
a
great
place
to
begin
is
with
your
friends
and
family.
That
way,
you
won't
have
to
worry
about
opinion
from
strangers.
Your
friends
and
family
care
about
you,
so
you
should
definitely
feel
confident
with
their
reading
your
work
first.
Simply
print
them
a
copy
or
send
it
digitally.
After
receiving
their
reviews,
you
might
tend
to
share
your
work
with
larger
audience.
If
this
is
the
case,
try
self-
publishing
or
sending
your
writing
to
a
magazine.
Self-publishing
is
the
easiest
way
to
show
your
work
to
the
world.
There
are
numerous
websites
that
allow
you
to
post
anything
you
have
written
for
an
online
audience.
Resources
like
wattpad.
com
and
storystreetlabs.
com
are
existing
websites
that
allow
you
to
publish
anything
in
your
own
account.
You
can
receive
likes
and
comments
from
others,
too.
Other
websites,
like
tumblr.
com
and
deviantart.
com
are
open
blog
websites
that
host
more
content
than
just
creative
writing.
While
some
websites
allow
you
to
publish
anything,
others
carefully
consider
submissions.
A
great
example
of
this
type
of
publication
is
Amazing
Kids!
Magazine,
which
publishes
work
by
kids
in
every
monthly
issue.
Stay
alert
to
special
contests
that
call
for
themed
writing.
You
might
even
receive
a
prize
with
publication!
If
Amazing
Kids!
Magazine
cannot
publish
your
work,
don't
be
disheartened.
There
are
a
number
of
online
journals
that
accept
submissions
from
kids
and
teenagers.
Stonesoup.
com,
magicdragonmagazine.
com,
and
the
tellingroom.
org
are
all
examples
of
online
magazine
that
publish
stories
and
poems
by
kids.

If

about

what

That
is
one
of
the
questions
TFK

recently

in
an
anonymous
(匿名的)
survey
conducted
online.
More
than
8,000

time
with

said
a
12-year-old,"At
age

I'm

kid
said.
An
11-year
old
wrote,"Being
a
kid

a
lot
harder
than
it
looks."The
kids
who
took
our
survey
made
it
clear
that
they
want
to
feel
close
to
the
important
people
in
their
life—
their
mom,
dad
and
other
caring
adults.
But
their
answers
also
show
that
it
is
not
always
easy
to
deal
with
these
close
relationships.
Many
kids一two
out
of
three一said
they
get
along
pretty
well
or
very
well
with
their
parents.
About
four
out
of
five
kids
told
us
that
they
have
fun
with
their
parents.
But
that
doesn't
mean
they
never
disagree.
In
fact,
most
kids
reported
arguing
with
their
parents,
at
least
sometimes.
"It's
absolutely
normal
to
disagree
and
argue,
”says
D'Arcy
Lyness,
a
child
psychologist.“But
it's
also
important
to
learn
how
to
do
so
respectfully.
"About
half
of
the
kids
said
they
are
doing
that.
When
they
disagree
with
their
parents,
they
say
they
discuss
issues
calmly.
But
two
out
of
five
kids
said
arguments
tend
to
involve
yelling
at
each
other.
Lyness
points
out
that
shouting
never
helps.“Speak
up,
and
let
your
parents
know
your
ideas
and
your
opinions,"
she
advises.
“But
be
patient.
Don't
use
a
raised,
angry
voice.
Kids
made
it
clear
that
they
would
rather
avoid
conflict
altogether.
Not
surprisingly,
three
out
of
four
kids
admitted
lying
at
times.
Many
said
they
lie
to
avoid
getting
in
trouble
or
disappointing
their
parents.
According
to
Lyness,
lying
isn't
just
wrong.
It
can
actually
get
negative
results,
Telling
the
truth
builds
trust.“When
parents
can
trust
you,
they
are
more
likely
to
give
you
more
freedom
and
more
privileges,"
she
says.

Look
inside
any
family
home
in
the
evening,
and
you
might
see
a
typical
enough
scene:
Mom
and
Dad,
each
on
their
own
laptop
or
tablet,
streaming
movies,
catching
up
on
work
or
maybe
answering
emails
on
their
smartphones.
Meanwhile,
one
child
is
chatting
online
with
one
school
friend
while
texting
another.
The
other
is
playing
a
video
game
with
a
friend
on
the
other
side
of
the
city
at
the
same
time.
Each
member
of
the
family
is
totally
absorbed
in
his
or
her
own
piece
of
technology.
According
to
some
experts,
the
effect
of
technology
on
human
relationships
is
worrying
as
technology
becomes
a
substitute
for
face
to-face
human
relationships.
It
appears
to
be
the
case
that
many
people
would
much
rather
spend
time
with
their
electronic
gadgets
(电子产品)
than
with
one
another.
Young
people
say
it
is
difficult
to
get
their
parents'
attention
and
they
have
to
compete
with
smartphones,
tablets
and
other
technology.
However,
a
report
from
the
Pew
Internet
and
American
Life
Project
offers
a
more
helpful
and
encouraging
view,
suggesting
that
far
from
replacing
human
contact,
technology
can
actually
better
family
relationships.
Just
over
half
of
the
2,253
people
surveyed
agreed
that
technology
had
enabled
them
to
increase
their
contact
with
distant
family
members
and
47
percent
said
it
had
improved
the
communication
with
the
people
they
lived
with.
Moreover,
even
the
closest
members
of
families
need
time
away
from
each
other
at
some
point
to
seek
their
own
interests.
Family
members
who
might
otherwise
have
sat
in
separate
rooms
can
now
be
in
the
same
one
while
still
occupying
a
different
mental
space.
Look
back
at
our
typical
family
scene
above.
Is
it
any
different
from
four
people
reading
their
own
books?
Or
is
it
driving
families
apart?
Where
technology
will
lead
us
remains
to
be
seen.
Yet
there
is
no
need
to
worry.
As
a
matter
of
fact,
how
it
affects
our
family
relationships
depends
on
our
attitude
toward
technology.

The

of

industry,

Compared
with
Chinese
youngsters,
youths
in
developed
countries
are
more
pessimistic.
Of
course
there
are
some
social
reasons
for
the
appearing

As

youths
