The
first
time
my
wife
Linda
gave
birth
was
in
a
hospital.
When
Linda
got
pregnant(怀孕)
for
the
second
time,
we
wanted
a
home
birth,
not
just
for
ourselves,
but
for
our
daughter.
We
are
very
open
with
our
daughter.
We
want
to
teach
her
respect
and
awe(敬畏)
for
the
things
of
bodies.
So
she
was
part
of
the
process
from
the
very
beginning.
In
the
morning
,
the
midwives
came
just
as
Linda
was
climbing
into
the
birth
tub(盆).
Our
daughter
offered
her
some
water
and
food
while
she
rested.
When
she
found
the
noise
and
activity
of
birth,
she
was
too
nervous
to
stay
long,
so
she
spent
a
few
minutes
next
to
the
tub,
then
went
into
another
room
to
play,
The
midwives
called
her
back
in
time
to
see
her
brother
come
into
the
world.
As
Linda
pulled
our
tiny
newborn
son
up,
our
daughter
and
I
rushed
to
her
side,
all
four
of
us
hugging
and
crying
and
very
excited.
That
night,
and
many
times
since
then,
our
daughter
said,
“I’m
so
proud
of
Mom
for
having
a
baby.”
She
has
seen
and
admired
the
effort
it
takes
to
bring
a
new
person
into
the
world.
It’s
a
part
of
her
life,
something
that
can
happen
in
the
same
room
where
she
colors
and
watches
movies.
It
was
critical
that
our
daughter
was
part
of
that
experience,
not
just
for
her,
but
for
Linda
and
me
as
well.
Everything
we
wanted
for
her-
trusted
care
providers;
a
very
familiar
environment;
continuing
support;
good
food-were
things
we
needed
but
didn’t
have
the
first
time
Linda
gave
birth.
We
crossed
this
threshold(门槛)
together,
as
a
family,
and
it
was
messy
and
scary
and
painful
and
unusual
family,
and
it
was
messy
and
scary
and
painful
and
unusual
and
mysterious
and
really
perfect.

When

I’m

When

Now
I’m

四、回答问题
We’re
always
learning
from
other
parents
in
order
to
raise
our
successful
kids.
Now
here
are
five
habits
of
the
parents
who
raise
successful
kids.
Give
Children
Chores.
This
can
help
children
shape
a
good
work
ethic(道德)
from
an
early
age.
Not
only
does
this
give
them
a
chance
to
help
family
life,
but
it
also
teaches
children
skills
that
will
be
necessary
when
they
start
their
adult
lives.
Set
High
Expectations
Parents
of
successful
kids
set
high
expectations
for
their
children
as
well
as
themselves.
It
encourages
children
to
deal
with
difficult
situations
bravely.
But
remember
that
it’s
important
to
make
sure
that
your
expectations
of
your
kids
are
realistic.
Get
Yourself
Educated
According
to
a
study,
parents
who
have
attended
college
are
more
likely
to
have
children
who
do
the
same.
Parents
who
have
not
achieve
higher
levels
of
education
might
consider
pursuing(追求)
these
educational
goals
in
order
to
provide
a
good
example
for
their
children.
Show
Them
the
Good
Life
If
you
want
your
child
to
follow
your
footsteps-
getting
a
good
job,
making
a
nice
home,
and
having
happy
family-
it’s
helpful
to
make
it
look
the
best.
If
they
see
your
hard
work
has
been
well
paid
off,
they
will
want
to
do
the
same
for
their
own
future.
Read
to
Them
Reading
to
your
children,
even
if
when
they’re
little
babies,
shows
how
communication
works
and
can
improve
their
verbal(言语的)
skills
as
they
enter
school.
What’s
more,
reading
with
your
children
helps
them
build
decision
making
skills.
