mountain

high

Pan
Mountain.

mountain

a

for

在藏语中，“珠穆”是“女神”的意思，“朗玛”则是“母象”的意思，整体意思为“大地之母”。由于珠峰常年被白雪覆盖，气温极低，环境恶劣，因此也被誉为“地球第三极”。对于世界极限运动爱好者们而言，珠穆朗玛峰作为世界第一高峰，乃是他们最想征服的山峰，每年都有数千登山爱好者向其发起挑战。珠峰海拔奇高，山顶平均气温为-40℃至-50℃之间，，含氧量只有平原的四分之一，还经常刮起七八级大风，自然环境非常恶劣，因此攀登难度极大。
每年数以千计的登山者中，只有寥寥数人能够成功登顶。在攀登过程中，登山者要时刻关注自己的物资和体力，很多首次攀登者过于乐观，对珠峰没有刻骨铭心的认识，根本不知道如何准备物资或消耗体力。假如前期攀爬太快，致使体力消耗巨大，为恢复体力，登山员要么过早补充能量，要么过早使用氧气瓶。当剩下最后几百米时，物资便已经不够用，上去反而会有生命危险，所以他们只能选择撤退据统计，至今有超过300人在登顶珠峰途中丧命。
