When
I
lived
in
Spain,
some
Spanish
friends
of
mine
decided
to
visit
England
by
car,
before
they
left,
they
asked
me
about
how
to
find
accommodation.
I
suggested
that
they
should
stay
at
"bed
and
breakfast"
houses,
because
this
kind
of
accommodation
gives
a
foreign
visitor
a
good
chance
to
speak
English
with
the
family.
My
friends
listened
to
my
advice,
but
they
came
back
with
some
funny
stories.
"We
didn't
stay
at
bed
and
breakfast
houses,
"they
said
.“Because
we
found
that
most
families
were
away
on
holiday
.”
I
thought
this
was
strange
.
Finally
I
understood
what
had
happened.
My
friends
spoke
little
English,
and
they
thought
“VACANCIES"
meant
"holidays"
because
Spanish
word
for
"holiday"
is
"vacaciones"
they
did
not
go
to
houses
where
the
sign
outside
said
"VACANCIES",
which
in
English
me
ant
there
are
free
rooms.
Then
my
friends
went
to
houses
where
the
sign
said
“NO
VACANCIES",
because
they
thought
this
meant
the
people
who
owned
the
house
were
not
away
on
holiday.
But
they
found
that
these
houses
were
all
full.
As
a
result,
they
stayed
at
hotels!
We
laughed
about
this
and
about
mistakes
my
friends
made
in
reading
other
signs.
In
Spanish,
a
word
very
similar
to
“DIVERSION”
means
fun.
In
English
it
means
that
workman
is
repairing
the
road,
and
that
you
must
take
a
different
road
when
my
friends
saw
the
word
“DIVERSION"
on
a
road
sign,
they
thought
they
were
going
to
have
fun.
Instead,
the
road
ended
in
a
large
hole.
English
people
have
problems
too
when
they
learn
foreign
languages.
Once
in
Paris,
when
someone
offered
me
some
more
coffee,
I
said
"Thank
you"
in
French.
I
meant
that
I
would
like
some
more.
However,
to
my
surprise
the
coffee
pot
was
taken
away!
Later
I
found
out
that
“Thank
you"
in
French
means
“No,
thank
you”.
11.My
Spanish
friends
wanted
advice
about________.
A.
learning
English
B.
finding
places
to
stay
in
England
C.
driving
their
car
on
English
roads
D.
going
to
England
by
car
12.
I
suggested
that
they
stay
at
bed
and
breakfast
houses
because________.
A.
they
would
be
able
to
practice
their
English
B.
it
would
be
much
cheaper
than
staying
in
hotels
C.
it
would
be
convenient
for
them
to
have
dinner
D.
there
would
be
no
problem
about
finding
accommodation
13.“NO
VACANCIES"
in
English
means________.
A.no
free
rooms
B.
free
rooms
C.
not
away
on
holiday
D.
holidays
14.
If
you
see
a
road
sings
that
says
“Diversion”
in
UK,
you
will
________.
A.
fall
into
a
hole
B.
have
a
lot
of
fun
and
enjoy
yourself
C.
Find
that
the
road
is
blocked
by
a
crowd
of
people
D.
Have
to
take
a
different
road
15.When
someone
offered
me
more
coffee
and
I
said
“Thank
you”
in
French,
I
_________.
A.
didn’t
really
want
any
more
coffee.
B.
wanted
them
to
take
the
coffee
pot
away.
C.
really
wanted
some
more
coffee.
D.
wanted
to
express
my
politeness.
B
When
we
found
him,
he
was
a
sorry
sight.
His
clothes
were
torn,
his
hands
bleeding.
Before
we
reached
him,
we
saw
him
fall.
He
lay
a
moment.
Then
he
pulled
himself
to
his
feet,
walked
unsteadily
a
few
yards
through
the
woods
and
fell
again.
After
we
got
him
out,
we
went
back
to
find
the
gun
that
he
had
thrown
down.
His
tracks
showed
that
for
two
days
he
had
circled
in
the
forest,
within
200
yards
of
the
road.
His
senses
were
so
dulled
by
fear
and
tiredness
that
he
did
not
hear
the
cars
going
by
or
see
the
lights
at
night.
We
found
him
just
in
time.
This
man,
like
others
before
him,
had
simply
been
frightened
when
he
knew
he
was
lost.
What
had
been
a
near
disaster
might
have
turned
out
as
only
a
pleasant
walk,
if
he
had
made
a
few
preparations
before
he
stepped
from
the
highway
or
off
a
known
path.
Whatever
sense
of
direction
that
a
man
may
have,
it's
still
largely
a
question
of
observation.
A
skilled
woodsman
always
keeps
an
eye
on
his
surroundings.
He
notes
the
shape
of
a
mountain,
the
direction
water
flows
through
a
swamp,
and
the
way
a
tree
leans
across
a
path.
With
these
in
mind,
he
is
still
likely
to
turn
around
many
times,
but
he
is
seldom
lost.
There
are
exceptions,
of
course,
and
once
in
a
while
a
man
does
come
across
some
strange
problem
that
puts
him
into
the
"lost"
situation.
A
rainstorm
may
catch
him
without
a
compass
in
his
pocket.
Darkness
may
find
him
in
a
rough
area,
where
travel
is
dangerous
without
a
light.
When
this
happens,
the
normal
first
reaction
is
the
fear
of
being
laughed
at
as
a
result
of
his
poor
knowledge
in
the
woods.
He
may
also
be
concerned
about
the
inconvenience
that
he
will
cause
his
friends
when
he
doesn't
show
up.
This
false
pride
may
lead
him
to
keep
on
the
move
in
a
false
effort
to
find
his
way
against
all
difficulties.
The
person
who
thinks
ahead
is
seldom
in
great
danger.
He'll
be
safe
if
he
observes
carefully,
thinks
ahead,
and
remains
calm.
16.
The
writer
suggested
that
if
the
man
had
not
been
found,
_______.
A.
he
would
have
been
shot
by
a
gun
B.
he
would
have
become
confused
C.
he
would
have
been
attacked
by
wild
animals
D.
he
would
have
been
in
great
danger
17.

to
the
text,

a
person
gets
lost
in
the
forest,
at
the
very
beginning,
_______.
A.
he
will
worry
about
being
laughed
at
B.
he
will
push
himself
to
find
his
way
out
C.
he
will
feel
sorry
that
he
didn't
prepare
well
enough
D.
he
will
feel
it
is
convenient
to
ask
for
help
from
his
friends
18.
What
is
the
most
important
when
a
person
tries
to
find
his
way
in
the
woods?
A.
Intelligence.
B.
Observation.
C.
Direction.
D.
Chance.
19.

lost
man
as
an
example
of
people
who______.
A.
go
into
the
woods
by
themselves
B.
keep
their
head
when
they
are
in
trouble

passage?
A.
A
Man
Lost
in
the
Woods
B.
Timely
Rescue
in
the
Woods
C.

Sydney
is
one
of
the
most
beautiful
cities
in
the
world
and
the
2000
Olympic
games
put
it
on
the
map
as
one
of
the
most
lively
and
modern
cities
in
the
world.
Any
trip
to
Sydney
is
an
adventure
and
with
some
of
the
world’s
beautiful
beaches,
this
city
has
so
much
to
offer.
Sydney
is
so
large
an
area
that
choosing
a
hotel
is
something
you
need
to
do
very
carefully.
Public
transport
is
good,
but
it
can
be
slow
and
being
close
to
where
you
want
to
be
is
probably
the
most
important
factor.
The
first
and
most
obvious
choice
is
hotels
around
Circular
Quay.
Circular
Quay
is
the
heart
of
the
city
and
one
of
the
major
interchanges
where
trains,
buses
and
ferries
meet.
It’s
also
where
Sydney’s
two
most
famous
landmarks
are
located

the
Sydney
Opera
House
and
the
Sydney
Harbor
Bridge.
This
area
is
active
and
offers
some
of
the
best
views
you
will
ever
get
from
a
hotel
room.
The
farther
hotels
in
the
city
are
much
more
suited
to
business
travelers
and
they
are
usually
less
expensive.
Daring
Harbor
is
a
great
choice
as
it
mixes
a
great
view
with
being
right
in
the
center
of
the
city.
Darling
Harbor
has
hundreds
of
pubs,
clubs
and
restaurants
along
the
water’s
edge.
If
you
don’t
feel
like
dealing
with
the
hustle
and
bustle
of
the
city
and
are
looking
for
something
a
bit
quieter,
why
not
head
out
to
the
Northern
Beaches?
It’s
only
a
short
ferry
ride
over
to
Manly
where
you
can
find
two
major
hotels
on
the
beach
with
a
number
of
smaller
boutiques
(时装店,精品店).
21.
What
made
Sydney
famous
as
one
of
the
most
lively
and
modern
cities
in
the
world?
A.
Its
traditional
culture.
B.
its
beaches
and
hotels.
C.
The
traffic
system.
D.
The
2000
Olympics.
22.
We
may
know
from
the
passage
that
____________.
A.
traveling
to
Sydney
is
boring
B.
Sydney’s
public
transport
is
fast
C.
hotels
in
Manly
are
the
cheapest
in
Sydney
D.
you
can
enjoy
good
views
in
Circular
Quay
23.If
you
want
to
live
in
a
quiet
hotel
and
buy
some
fashionable
clothes
or
expensive
gifts,
you
should
choose
one
in
__________
.
A.
Circular
Quay
B.
Darling
Harbor
C.
Manly
D.
Sydney
Harbor
Bridge
24.
The
underlined
part
“hustle
and
bustle”
in
the
last
paragraph
may
refer
to
_________.
A.
hot
climate
B.
serious
pollution
C.
busy
noisy
activities
D.
slow-moving
traffic
25.
The
passage

选句填空
(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
It
happens
every
night—bedtime.
But
what
if
you’re
not
sleepy?
Should
you
still
go
to
bed
and
just
lie
there
with
your
eyes
wide
open?
26
But
don’t
worry.
Here
are
some
steps
you
can
take
to
help
you
fall
asleep.
One
thing
that
can
help
is
talking
to
a
parent
about
what
you’re
thinking
about
at
bedtime.
For
example,
if
you’re
nervous
about
taking
a
test,
or
upset
about
being
teased
at
school,
it
can
really
help
to
tell
somebody.
27
.
28
If
there’s
anything
about
your
room
that
makes
you
feel
uneasy
or
anxious
at
night,
like
a
picture
that
looks
strange
in
the
dark,
or
a
leaking
bathroom
tap,
ask
your
parent
to
move
or
fix
it.
Make
sure
electronics
are
kept
away
from
your
bed
as
their
lights
and
noise
can
make
it
harder
for
you
to
fall
asleep.
If
you’re
often
nervous
around
bedtime,
doing
certain
things
to
calm
yourself
may
help
you
fall
asleep.
Taking
a
warm
bath,
or
listening
to
a
bedtime
story
at
least
30
minutes
before
bed
may
help
you
relax.
It
also
helps
to
follow
a
bedtime
routine
and
go
to
sleep
at
the
same
time
every
night.
29
.
In
order
to
find
the
right
solution
for
you,
it’s
important
that
you
understand
what
exactly
is
keeping
you
up
at
night.
30
Your
body
will
thank
you
for
the
effort.
A.
Knowing
that
somebody
has
heard
you
can
help
ease
your
mind
so
that
you
can
rest.
B.
Calming
music
played
at
a
low
volume
can
help
the
stress
flow
out
of
your
body.
C.
It’s
a
problem
that
has
been
around
as
long
as
there
have
been
people
trying
to
sleep.
D.
Take
the
time
to
think
about
the
problem
carefully.
E.
Sleeping
in
a
comfortable
bed
in
a
quiet
and
cool
room
is
ideal.
F.
But
what
works
for
others
may
not
necessarily
work
for
you.
G.
In
this
way,
your
body
will
get
the
message
that
it’s
almost
time
to
sleep.

Once
in
a
company,
a
team
of
40
employees
from
different
departments
were
working
together
on
a
project.
The
team
consisted
of
bright
and
31
young
members
but
the
problem
was
that
they
wouldn't
32
information.
So
one
day
the
leader
of
the
project
33
them
to
take
part
in
an
event.
In
his
event
there
were
several
fun
34
.
First
the
leader
showed
them
into
a
room
full
of
fun
decorations
and
hundreds
of
colorful
35
on
the
floor.
In
the
center
of
the
room
was
a
box
full
of
balloons
that
had
not
been
36
yet.
Seeing
this,
everyone
was
37
and
was
guessing
wildly
what
kind
of
activity
it
could
be.
The
leader
said,
“Each
of
you
pick
up
a
balloon
and
blow
it
up.
Then
write
your
38
on
it."
After
everyone
did
told,
hey
were
asked
to
39
their
balloon
inside
the
room
and
40
quickly
Minutes
later
the

they
had
to
find
the
balloon
they
42
with
their
won
name
on
it
among
hundreds
of
balloons
scattered
there.
The
leader
told
them
the
first
to
43
the
balloon
with
his
own
name
will
be
the
44
.
And
they
were
not
allowed
to
pop(弄破)any
balloon.
45
everyone
tried
their
best
to
find
their
balloon,
but
46
after
twenty
minutes,
not
a
single
person
47
to
find
their
balloon.
The
leader
came
and
told
them
that
this
round
was
48
and
everyone
should
go
for
the
next
round.
For
the
next
round,
the
leader
told
them
that,
if
any
team
found
any
balloon
with
names
on
it,
then
49
it
to
the
person
whose
name
was
on
it.
Everyone
did
so
and
within
a
couple
of
50
,
every
member
of
the
team
had
their
own
balloon
with
their
own
name
on
it.
