第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
The
park
bench
was
deserted
as
I
sat
down
to
read
beneath
the
branches
of
an
old
tree,
with
good
reason
to
frown,
for
the
world
was
intended
to
drag
me
down.
At
this
time,
a
boy
approached
me.
He
stood
right
before
me,
and
said
with
great
excitement,
"Look
what
I
found!"
In
his
hand
was
a
flower,
and
what
a
pitiful
sight,
with
its
petals
(花瓣)
all
worn.
Wanting
him
to
take
his
flower
and
go
off
to
play,
I
faked
a
small
smile
and
then
turned
to
the
other
side.
But
instead
of
leaving,
he
sat
next
to
my
side
and
placed
the
flower
to
his
nose
and
declared,
"It
really
smells
pretty
and
it's
beautiful,
too.
That's
why
I
picked
it.
Here,
it's
for
you."
The
flower
before
me
was
dying
or
dead.
But
I
knew
I
must
take
it,
or
he
might
never
leave.
So
I
reached
for
the
flower,
and
replied,
"Just
what
I
need."
But
instead
of
placing
the
flower
in
my
hand,
he
held
it
in
mid-air.
It
was
then
that
I
noticed
that
the
boy
was
blind.
I
heard
my
voice
quiver
(轻微颤抖),
and
at
the
same
time
my
tears
shone
like
the
sun.
As
I
thanked
him
for
picking
the
very
best
one,
he
smiled
and
said,
"You're
welcome."
And
then
he
ran
off
to
play,
unaware
of
the
impact
he'd
had
on
me.
I
sat
there
and
wondered
how
he
managed
to
see
a
self-pitying
woman
beneath
an
old
tree.
Perhaps
from
his
heart,
he'd
been
blessed
with
true
sight.
Through
the
eyes
of
the
blind
boy,
I
could
see
the
problem
was
not
with
the
world;
the
problem
was
me.
And
for
all
of
those
times
I
had
been
blind.
From
now
on
I
vowed
to
see
beauty
and
appreciate
every
second
that's
mine.
Then
I
held
the
flower
up
to
my
nose
and
breathed
its
fragrance
and
smiled
as
that
young
boy.

B
Food
experts
say
washing
could
spread
the
germs
on
your
turkey
in
the
kitchen
sink
or
nearby
food.
But
it's
been
a
challenge
trying
to
convince
cooks
to
stop
rinsing(冲洗)
off
raw
poultry.
Germs
that
can
make
people
sick
are
common
in
the
guts
of
healthy
poultry
and
are
legally
allowed
to
be
on
raw
turkey
and
chicken.
The
assumption
is
that
nobody
eats
their
poultry
raw,
and
that
thorough
cooking
will
kill
the
bacteria.
The
do-not-wash
raw
poultry
advice
from
the
USDA
is
relatively
new
and
perhaps
hasn't
caught
on
because
it
goes
against
the
common
belief
that
washing
makes
things
clean,
said
Chapman.
Benjamin
Chapman,
a
study
author
and
food
safety
expert
at
North
Carolina
State
University,
said
the
instinct
to
wash
raw
poultry
goes
back
at
least
decades
when
people
relied
more
on
visual
clues
to
spot
problems
with
poultry.
Meanwhile,
washing
hands
and
surfaces
are
also
important.
But
food
preparation
is
a
complicated
act,
and
germs
from
poultry
can
be
spread
even
if
it's
not
washed,
especially
when
birds
are
removed
from
packaging.
The
USDA-funded
study
stresses
that
point.
Researchers
sprayed
raw
chicken
with
a
harmless
strain
of
E.
coli
(大肠杆菌)
and
watched
volunteer
cooks
at
test
kitchens.
Among
those
who
washed
their
raw
chicken,
about
a
quarter
ended
up
spreading
the
bacteria
to
their
lettuce.
But
even
some
of
those
who
did
not
rinse
the
chicken
got
germs
on
the
lettuce.
And
there
are
other
opportunities
for
germs
to
survive
on
turkeys:
melting
and
cooking.
To
ensure
a
bird
is
thoroughly
cooked,
they
say
to
use
a
thermometer
to
check
that
the
deepest
and
thickest
parts
of
it
have
reached
165
degrees.
Even
after
the
meal
is
cooked,
you
aren't
out
of
the
danger
zone.
To
keep
turkeys
and
other
leftovers
safe,
experts
say
they
should
be
refrigerated
after
two
hours.
24.People
don't
accept
USDA's
advice
because
_______.
A.the
advice
is
relatively
new.
B.cooks
clean
the
turkey
before
cooking
it.
C.cleaning
seems
more
trustworthy.
D.heat
can
kill
most
germs
and
no
one
eats
raw
food.
25.What
can
be
concluded
from
Paragraph
4?
A.Food
packages
carry
germs.
B.Germs
from
a
turkey
can
be
spread
whether
it
is
washed
or
not.
C.Hands
and
surfaces
are
easy
to
get
E
coli.
D.Multiple
methods
should
be
applied
to
food
to
get
rid
of
germs.
26.Which
way
may
help
to
cook
a
turkey
safely?
A.Rinse
off
the
turkey
before
it
is
heated.
B.Keep
the
turkey
away
from
the
lettuce
and
refrigerator.
C.Wash
hands
and
packages
before
taking
out
the
turkey.
D.Use
a
thermometer
to
check
the
temperature
of
the
turkey.
27.From
which
section
of
a
magazine
is
the
text
probably
taken?
A.Cooking.
B.Technology.
C.Science.
D.Medicine.
C
It
was
a
bitter
cold
evening
in
northern
Virginia
many
years
ago.
The
old
man’s
beard
was
glazed
by
winter’s
frost
while
he
waited
for
a
ride
across
the
river.
The
wait
seemed
endless.
His
body
became
numb
and
stiff
from
the
frigid
north
wind.
It
was
long
before
he
heard
the
faint,
steady
rhythm
of
hooves
(马蹄)
along
the
frozen
path.
Anxiously
watching
several
horsemen
coming
up,
he
let
the
first
one
pass
by
without
any
effort
to
get
his
attention,
then
another
passed
by,
and
another.
Finally,
the
last
rider
drew
near
where
the
old
man
sat
like
a
snow
statue
when
old
man
caught
his
eyes
and
said,
“Sir,
would
you
mind
giving
an
old
man
a
ride
to
the
other
side?”
Stopping
his
horse,
the
rider
replied,
“Sure!
Jump
aboard.”
Seeing
the
old
man
unable
to
lift
his
half-frozen
body
from
the
ground,
the
horseman
got
down
to
help
him.
The
horseman
took
him
not
just
across
the
river,
but
to
his
destination
just
a
few
miles
away.
As
they
approached
the
tiny
but
cozy
cottage,
the
horseman’s
curiosity
caused
him
to
inquire,
“Sir,
I
noticed
you
let
several
other
riders
pass
by
without
making
an
effort
to
secure
a
ride.
Then
I
came
up
and
you
immediately
asked
me
for
a
ride.
I
am
curious
why,
on
such
a
bitter
night,
you
would
wait
and
ask
the
last
rider.
What
if
I
had
refused
and
left
you
here?”
The
old
man
looked
the
rider
straight
in
the
eyes
and
replied,
“I
reckon
I
know
people
pretty
good.
I
looked
into
the
eyes
of
the
other
riders
and
immediately
found
no
concern
for
my
situation.
It
would
have
been
useless
even
to
ask
them
for
a
ride.
But
when
I
looked
into
your
eyes,
your
gentle
spirit
would
welcome
the
opportunity
to
give
me
assistance
in
my
time
of
need.”
Those
heart-warming
comments
touched
the
horseman
deeply.
“I’m
so
grateful
for
what
you
have
said,”
he
told
the
old
man.
“May
I
never
get
too
busy
in
my
own
affairs
that
I
fail
to
respond
to
the
needs
of
others
with
kindness
and
compassion.”
With
that,
Thomas
Jefferson
turned
his
horse
around
and
made
his
way
back
to
the
White
House.
28.Why
didn’t
the
old
man
ask
the
previous
riders
for
a
ride?
A.Because
he
was
waiting
for
the
last
rider.
B.Because
his
efforts
failed
to
get
their
attention.
C.Because
he
assumed
they
had
no
concern
for
him.
D.Because
he
was
too
numb
to
lift
his
half-frozen
body.
29.What
caused
the
last
rider
to
stop
and
help
the
old
man?
A.the
old
man’s
poor
situation
B.kindness
and
sympathy
C.his
own
affairs
D.The
old
man’s
warm
comments
30.What
do
you
know
about
the
old
man?
A.He
gave
the
last
rider
an
opportunity
to
help.
B.He
lived
in
a
cozy
cottage
a
few
miles
away.
C.He
judged
people
by
looking
into
their
eyes.
D.He
recognized
the
president
at
first
sight.
31.Which
can
be
the
best
title
of
this
text?
A.look
into
your
eyes
B.compassion
of
a
great
man
C.the
last
rider
to
help
D.return
to
the
White
House
D
Our
house
was
across
the
street
from
a
big
hospital,
so
we
rented
our
spare
upstairs
room
to
outpatients
(门诊病人).
One
evening,
there
was
a
knock
at
the
door.
I
opened
it
to
see
a
truly
sick-looking
man.
His
face
looked
terrible
–
it
was
swollen
and
red.
Yet
his
voice
was
pleasant.
He
told
me
that
he
came
for
treatment
and
that
he’d
been
hunting
for
a
spare
room
since
noon,
but
no
one
would
give
him
one.
“I
guess
it’s
my
face...”
For
a
moment,
I
hesitated,
but
his
next
words
convinced
me:
“I’ll
sleep
in
this
rocking
chair
on
the
porch
(门廊).
My
bus
leaves
early
in
the
morning.”
The
old
man
had
a
huge
heart
inside
his
tiny
body.
He
told
me
that
he
fished
for
a
living
to
support
his
daughter,
his
daughter’s
five
children
and
her
disabled
husband.
He
didn’t
complain
while
telling
me
his
story.
He
was
grateful
that
no
pain
accompanied
his
disease,
which
was
seemingly
a
form
of
skin
cancer
.
The
next
morning,
he
said,
“Can
I
come
back
and
stay
the
next
time
I
need
treatment?”
I
told
him
he
was
welcome
to
come
again.
On
his
next
trip,
as
a
gift,
he
brought
a
big
fish
and
some
large
oysters
(牡蛎).
In
the
years
that
he
stayed
with
us,
there
was
never
a
time
that
he
did
not
bring
us
gifts
like
these.
My
neighbor
warned
me
that
I
could
lose
potential
renters
by
putting
up
the
old
man
after
he
left
the
first
morning.
Maybe
we
did
lose
renters
once
or
twice.
But
if
they
had
known
him,
perhaps
their
illnesses
would
have
been
easier
to
bear.
I
know
our
family
will
always
be
grateful
to
have
known
him;
From
him,
we
learned
what
it
was
to
accept
the
bad
without
complaint
and
the
good
with
gratitude.

prevents
you
from
achieving
something.
Whether
it
was
in
your
past,
or
you’re
presently
facing
an
obstacle,
we
all
have
to
deal
with
it.
Some
people
avoid
obstacles
or
deny
their
existence.
Others
let
obstacles
control
them,
and
they
feel
defeated.
Your
attitude
towards
obstacles
will
define
the
outcome
of
whether
you
rise
from
the
challenge,
or
remain
stuck
in
it.
36.
Obstacles
give
you
purpose
Sometimes
obstacles
can
reset
your
goals.
You
might
have
always
had
a
particular
way
of
doing
things,
or
wanted
to
pursue
certain
goals;
but
when
you’re
faced
with
setbacks
or
difficulties,
you’re
forced
to
re-think,
and
re-examine
your
path.
37..
Or,
you
may
concentrate
on
something
that
you
otherwise
wouldn’t
have
if
not
for
the
particular
setback.
By
having
to
overcome
an
obstacle,
you’ll
be
fulfilling
a
purpose,
rather
than
just
going
through
the
motions.
Obstacles
Prepare
You
for
the
Unexpected
38..
Even
though
obstacles
can
bring
out
many
negative
emotions
in
us,
such
as
frustration,
anger,
or
sadness,
it’s
important
to
realize
that
they
don’t
stop
you
from
reaching
our
intended
goals.
Instead,
they,
in
a
way,
give
you
time
to
stop
and
think
if
perhaps
there
is
a
new
and
better
path
to
take
and
what
you
can
prepare
for
what
will
happen
along
the
way.
39.
Obstacles
whether
you
like
them
or
not
are
unavoidable.
Life
will
never
stop
throwing
you
new
obstacles.
So,
the
best
thing
to
do
is
know
how
to
better
see
and
deal
with
these
obstacles,
and
transform
them
into
opportunities
for
self
improvement.
The
more
you’re
able
to
see
obstacles
as
being
an
advantage
to
your
life,
the
better
you’ll
be
at
managing
them.
40..
It
will
make
you
constantly
change
and
adapt
to
new
situations,
allowing
you
to
grow
into
a
better
version
of
yourself.
A.Obstacles
make
you
enjoy
a
challenge.
B.Your
obstacle
may
throw
you
off
track
for
a
bit.
C.Obstacles
shift
your
perspective.
D.Obstacles
serve
as
guides
for
where
to
go
next.
E.You
may
end
up
focusing
on
something
new
and
exciting.
F.Here
are
some
more
great
things
to
love
about
obstacles.
G.Accepting
obstacles
will
benefit
you
a
lot.

Dear
manager,
I
am
writing
to
express
my
dissatisfaction
with
the
blue
sweater,
which
I
purchased
in
your
store
last
week.
On
washing
it
for
the
first
time,
I
found
that
it
shrank
so
heavily
and
faded
so
badly
that
it
is
not
possible
for
me
to
wear
it.
When
I
attempted
to
return
the
sweater
to
the
store,
the
cashier
said
that
the
store
was
unable
to
replace
it
or
offer
me
a
refund
but
asked
me
to
give
up
my
requirement.
As
the
sweater
clearly
does
not
function
as
it
should
and
therefore
does
not
meet
the
legal
standards
of
product
quality,
I
am
writing
to
you
to
ask
for
a
full
refund
of
the
retail
price.
I
am
looking
forward
to
your
response
to
this
matter
within
the
next
two
weeks.
Yours
Truly,
Li
