1.When you go to see a doctor , he will write you a (处方) to take to the chemist for some medicine . Chemists are usually good at reading doctors’ notes. But sometimes doctors write too badly and even the chemists can’t read them.
One day a man wrote to a doctor to invite him to have dinner at his house. The doctor wrote a reply, but he wrote too badly and the man couldn’t read it.
“What shall I do ” he asked his wife, “I don’t know whether he is gonging to come or not. I don’t want to call him and say that I don’t understand him.”
His wife thought for a while and then she had an idea. “Take it to the chemist.” she said, “He will read it for us.”“Thank you .”said the husband . “That’s a good idea.”
He went to the chemist’s shop and gave the doctor’s note to him. The chemist looked at it for a long time.
“Could you wait a moment, sir ”He said. Then he went to the back of his shop. After a few minutes he came back, carrying a large bottle. He gave the bottle to the man. “Take one spoon every day,” he said.

He went to see the doctor more often, and it to9ok the doctor a long time to find out the reason, the businessman’s servant was giving him the sleeping medicine in the morning, and the ones to keep him awake at night!

“Sure,”says the man. “We can take your TV along.”
Martin gives them his TV set. They put the two TV sets in the car away.
Martin doesn’t see his TV set again. Then he comes to know the two men aren’t repairmen. They are robbers.

4. Learning the language of a country isn’t enough. If you want to know the manners of your foreign friends, you will probably be surprised just how different they can be from your own.
A visitor to India should remember that people there are impolite to use the left hand for passing food at table. The left hand is for washing yourself. Sometimes using the wrong gesture may get into trouble. In our culture, nodding our head up and down means “Yes” and shaking our head from side to side means “No”. However, in parts of India, Greece and Turkey, the opposite is true.
In Europe it is quite usual to cross legs while sitting and talking to someone, even at an important meeting. But doing this could cause offence (反感)to a Thailander . Also touching the head of a grown –up is just not done in Thailand.

She took the fruits to town. Her friends bought the fruits. Ken liked counting. He counted the money that they made.
Soon the fruit farm made children rich. Bob, Alice and Ken learned that they needed each other. So they began to like each other. Judy’s dream came true. The fruit farm helped her children learn to be good friends. They never fought again.
