Module 6 Unit 1 Book 2 Grade 8
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,
It’s my great honor to be here to present my teaching plan. Today my topic is “She said China was a very interesting place.” I’d like to explain it in 5 aspects:
Ⅰ.【Learner analysis】
Ss at this age are active, curious, and full of energy, creative thinking and imagination. Generally speaking, they are interested in English learning; but their attention is always easily distracted. So as teachers, I think we should make full use of these characteristics.
Besides, the Ss are familiar with the similar content using direct speech in the previous lesson, which will make their learning of indirect speech in this lesson much easier.
Ⅱ.【Analysis of teaching material】
This lesson is mainly about entertainment. Such a topic is very close to Ss’ daily life. It is helpful to raise their learning interests. And this lesson mainly focuses on Ss’ ability in listening and speaking.
This will eventually promote students' comprehensive ability of using language and improve students' practice ability of learning, so as to lay a solid foundation for their life-long learning.
Ⅲ.【Teaching Goals】
I put forward the following aims based on the facts of Ss and the teaching material:
1. Knowledge aims: Ss can master the following new words and phrases: among, awake, sleepy, worried and so on. They also can master the following structures: She said she was with some classmates from London. / She explained that her visit was all about making friends.
2. Ability aims: Ss can exchange information with teachers and classmates. They can understand the dialogue on the book and make similar dialogues. They also can use the new words, phrases and structures into daily life.
3. Emotion aims: Ss can develop their interests in entertainment.
4. Important Points:
1) Words: among, awake, sleepy, worried, too
2) Expressions: take place, close friends, make friends, clap and cheer, be worried about
3) Structures: She said…, She explained that….
5. Difficult Points:
this->that, these->those
now->then, today->that day, tonight-> that night, tomorrow->the next day
here->there
come->go
To fulfill the above aims, the key point in this lesson is to master the new words, phrases and use them in real situation, while the difficult point is to use the new words, phrases and structures into daily communication.
Ⅳ .【Teaching methods and studying ways 】
Here, I’ll mainly use the task-based teaching method which provides more opportunities for the Ss to experience and use the language by fulfilling several tasks. In addition, I’ll also use the audio-visual teaching method to attract Ss’ attention and raise their interests and motivation.
When it comes to the ways of learning, students will learn the text through self-inquiry learning theory. According to this theory, learning is a process of relating new information to previously learnt information and new information is most easily acquired when people associate it with interesting things they have already learnt. Ss will also use eyes, mouth, and mind to see, listen, speak and feel. Besides, Ss will learn by reading, speaking, observing, cooperating discussing and deducing.
Ⅴ .【Teaching procedure (Including four steps)】
Now let’s come to the last part, also the most important part—teaching procedures. I’ll divide it into 4 steps.
Step 1: lead in
1) Greeting: I’ll say: “Gooding morning, class. Today we’ll learn a new lesson about entertainment. I’m quite sure that all of you will get a lot of fun from this lesson.”
2) I’ll show some pictures of entertainment and before I ask the Ss to make dialogues by using the words and the structure they have already learnt “I like …/I think it’s …/I want to ….”
For example, T: what do you think of this film
S: I think it’s interesting and is full of singing and dancing.
Then I use this old structure to lead in the new structure “He /She said…”
3) Then I’ll let Ss do a brainstorming to speak out as many names of entertainment as possible.
[The purpose of designing this step is that I want to raise their interests and provide opportunities for them to speak English. Meanwhile, these pictures can attract their attention and make this lesson more vivid.]
Step 2: pre-task
I’ll ask the Ss to look at A1 and A2 on the book and try their best to read and spell the new words and phrases by themselves one by one. This is to train Ss’ ability in predicting. And it helps them to try to master the new words.
Step 3: task circle
This is the main part of my teaching procedures. I have designed 3 tasks.
Task 1: Listening
I’ll get the Ss to listen to the tape and read the new words after the tape one by one in A1 and A2. For some difficult words, I’ll help them to understand and pronounce them correctly. I’ll let the Ss to listen to the tape for twice. The first time, I will ask them some questions and then ask them to listen. After this listening I will ask other questions such as “Who listened to the radio program, and who didn’t ” “What did Sally say about China ” Then listen again to check the answers.
Task 2: Speaking
I’ll ask pairs of Ss to ask and answer in A1 and A2, and I will pay attention to the mistakes that may appear in their performance. After the listening of the text, I’ll read the whole text in A3 and explain the important sentences to the Ss, and ask the students to repeat after me. I’ll ask the Ss to answer my questions in A4, and correct the mistakes that may appear in their performance by show them the rules of transition in direct speech and indirect speech on P152. Then I’ll ask the Ss to finish the table in A5 orally and look at the conversation in M2-U1, A3 and check.
Task 3: Playing a game
Here we will play a game called “woodpecker game”. We regard the new words and structure as trees. Ss in groups act as woodpeckers. And obviously the mistakes are the worms. During this game, which group finds out the most worms in the shortest time can be the winner. And I’ll give the members of this group a medal to encourage them.
[In this task circle step, I make the Ss as the centre of this lesson and let them use and practice the language. Task 1 gets the Ss to learn the new words and it gets preparation for task 2. Task 2 help the Ss to put out what they have just learnt about transition in direct speech and indirect speech. Task 3 cultivates their sense of competition.]
Step 4: post-task
1) Review the new words, phrases and structures learned in this lesson.
2) Homework
Copy the new words for three times every word
Practice and recite the dialogues on the book
Write similar dialogues by using the newly-learned words and structures as many as possible by finishing A1-4 in workbook on P116 and P117.
[This step is to consolidate the new knowledge and improve Ss’ ability in writing.]
That’s all for my presentation. Thank you for your attention.
