Furman
was
born
in
1954
when
the
Guinness
World
Records
was
just
set
up.
As
a
child,
he
was
not
good
at
sports
at
all.
However,
he
was
fascinated
by
the
Guinness
Book
of
World
Records,
hoping
that
his
name
would
appear
in
the
book
one
day.
In
1970,
he
began
to
get
in
touch
with
Eastern
religions
and
study
from
an
Indian
meditation
teacher
called
Sri
Chinmoy,
who
convinced
Furman
that
there
was
no
limit
to
people’s
physical
abilities.
Then
in
1978,with
no
training
he
took
part
in
a
24-hour
bicycle
marathon
held
in
New
York
and
got
the
third
prize,
which
gave
him
great
encouragement
and
inspiration.
Later
he
got
his
first
Guinness
record
with
27,000
jumping
jacks
in
1979.
In
the
past
40
years,
he
has
successfully
set
more
than
300
Guinness
records,
making
him
really
the
King
of
Guinness.
