Ⅳ.阅读理解
A
This
week,
at
the
Girls'
Schools
Association
annual
conference,
Professor
Byron
made
a
speech.
She
said,
“Some
families
adopted
a
‘spreadsheet
approach’
to
raising
children
with
their
school
life
and
career
path
mapped
out
for
them
from
the
start,
and
it's
really
a
problem.”
A
fortnight
ago
I
was
in
Birmingham
at
the
Skills
Show,
where
the
general
idea
was
that
parents
have
to
be
involved
with
their
children's
educational
lives.
And
it's
true:
parents
are,
more
often
than
not,
the
people
that
know
young
people
the
best
as
they
are
growing
up.
Sure,
this
doesn't
apply
to
every
single
child,
but,
for
most,
parents
will
be
a
yardstick
(尺度)
for
their
ambitions
and
those
with
whom
they
talk
with
over
dinner.
Whatever
kind
of
school
you
go
to,
parents
make
a
big
difference.
The
school
and
teaching
do
as
well
but
I
believe
a
lot
is
down
to
parenting.
Your
son
could
attend
any
number
of
good
independent
boys'
schools
but
do
badly
in
his
A?levels.
It's
not
so
much
to
do
with
the
teaching
as
how
much,
as
a
parent,
you
care
about
your
child's
education.
A
school
could
have
the
best
teachers
in
the
world,
but
if
there
is
little
in
the
way
of
parental
support,
the
child
will
have
a
harder
time.
My
most
successful
classmates
are
those
with
encouraging
parents;
parents
that
stood
on
football
pitches
on
cold
Saturday
mornings,
or
those
that
gave
up
their
time
to
help
their
children
with
homework.
When
I
explained
to
my
parents,
aged
13,
that
it
wasn't
actually
medicine
that
I
wanted
to
study,
but
writing,
my
parents
could
have
laughed
at
me,
but
they
didn't.
They
said,
“OK,
what
do
you
need
us
to
do?”
and
they
helped
me
when
and
where
they
could.
That
is
the
kind
of
“spreadsheet
approach”
that
every
child
needs.

Holi
(胡里节)
is
one
of
the
most
famous
festivals
in
India.
It
is
mainly
celebrated
in
the
northern
part
of
India
during
the
month
of
February
or
early
March.
Holi
is
also
known
as
the
festival
of
colors,
as
colors
are
the
whole
part
of
Holi
celebration.
The
celebration
marks
the
end
of
winter
and
the
beginning
of
spring.
Holi
is
celebrated
for
two
days.
On
the
first
day
children
search
the
neighbourhood
for
waste
wood.
At
night
they
light
a
fire
with
it.
The
public
bonfire
(篝火)
is
made
in
memory
of
the
burning
of
Holika.
The
story
behind
it
is
this:
there
was
a
king
who
ordered
everybody
to
worship
(敬奉)
him
rather
than
God.
However,
his
little
son
Prahlad
refused
to
do
so
and
go
on
worshiping
Lord
Vishnu,
the
Indian
God.
The
king
tried
many
times
to
kill
him
but
Lord
Vishnu
saved
him
every
time.
One
of
the
sisters
of
the
king,
named
Holika,
had
the
power
to
walk
through
fire
without
being
harmed.
So
the
king
ordered
her
to
kill
Prahlad
by
walking
through
the
fire
with
him.
However,
Lord
Vishnu
came
to
help
and
Prahlad
was
saved
while
Holika
perished.
The
second
day
is
of
course
the
main
day
of
Holi
celebrations,
which
is
marked
with
singing
and
dancing.
On
this
day
the
actual
play
of
colors
takes
place.
People
with
colored
faces
come
on
the
streets
and
dance
to
the
drum
beats
and
shout
“Holi
Hai”.
Everybody,
from
kids
to
adults,
plays
with
colors
and
water.
They
throw
colored
powders
and
water
on
friends
and
family
members,
greeting
each
other
with
the
warm
wishes
of
Holi.
Holi
is
a
festival
which
brings
people
together.
