Unit 2 Barbecues are fun

Pre-task preparation:
Use flashcards to review the food and drinks vocabulary. Ask which food or drinks students like. Invite several students to role-play the children on P67.
Introduce adjectives: sweet, delicious, tasty, salty, spicy, ect. Ask students to look at P68. Invite individuals to image and say how each food item tastes.
Distribute a copy of photocopiable P73 to each student. Tell them to read: Look and. Ask them to write down the food and drinks the children like and give a reason.
Write the word ‘barbecue’ on the board. Ask students what food or drinks they would like for a class barbecue.
Prepare some artificial money. Invite several students to come out and distribute the money to them in random amounts. Ask them to count their money and remember the total. Then ask them individually: How much money have they got To elicit: I’ve got__yuan.
Play the recording of the children’s dialogues on P70 and 71. Students listen and follow in their books.
While-task procedure:
Students work in groups of five. Distribute a copy of photocopiable P74 to each group. Tell them they are planning for a barbecue. Have the group fill in the table with each member’s name, and discuss the food or drinks they want to buy for barbecue and give a reason.
Tell students to refer to P70 for information on the prices of the food items. Have them complete the table, calculate the total cost of the food and drinks, and find out the outstanding amount Kitty needs from Mr Li.
Working in pairs, students act the story by asking and answering questions in turn using the target language.
Invite a few pairs to come to the front and role-play the story on P71.
