Boat
Festival,
also
called
the
Duanwu
Festival,
falls
on

fifth
day
of

fifth
month
of

lunar
year
(阴历年).
It
marks
the
beginning

the
year.
Since
2008,
Dragon
Boat
Festival
has
been
celebrated
not
only
as
a
festival
but
also
a
public
holiday

China.

holiday
comes,
people
usually
have
one
day
off.

History
This
festival
has
been
held
every
year
for
more
than
2,000
years
since
Qu
Yuan
died
in
278
BC.
Qu
Yuan
was
a
poet
who
loved
his
country
very
much.
After
his
country
was
taken
over
by
another
country,
the
state
of
Qin,
he
was
so
sad
that
he
drowned
(淹死)
himself
in
the
river.
As
soon
as
the
local
people
heard
the
bad
news,
they
sailed
their
boats
to
search
for
Qu
Yuan’s
body.
They
also
threw
food
such
as
eggs
and
Zongzi
into
the
river
before
his
body
was
found,
so
that
the
fish
would
not
eat
it.
Dragon
Boat
Festival
Celebration
So,
one
of
the
traditions
today
in
the
Dragon
Boat
Festival
is
racing
boats.
People
race
their
boats
in
the
shape
of
dragons
to
reach
the
finish
end
first.
In
the
old
days,
dragon
boat
races
were
held
only
by
Chinese
people.
However,
nowadays,
people
from
other
cultures
have
also
taken
part
in
the
races
and
enjoyed
themselves.
Eating
Zongzi
is
another
tradition
of
this
festival.

sticky
rice
in
bamboo
leaves,
it
has
different
shapes

fillings
