Many years ago, Norman Cousins was seriously ill. He was given six months to live. His chance for recovery was 1 in 500.
He could see the worry, depression and anger in his life contributed to his disease. He wondered, “If illness can be caused by negativity (消极性), can health be created by positivity (积极性) ” He decided to make an experiment of himself.
Laughing was one of the most positive activities he knew. He watched all the funny movies he could find. He read funny stories. He asked his friends to call him whenever they said, heard or did something interesting.
His pain was so great that he could not sleep. Laughing for 10 solid minutes, he found, relieved the pain for several hours so he could sleep. He fully recovered from his illness and lived another 20 happy and healthy years.
Laughing is necessary to our health. If we’re not well, laughing helps us get well; if we are well, laughing helps us stay that way. So, if you like laughing, do it as often as you can.
Use whatever makes you laugh—movies, books, jokes or friends. The people around you may think you’re strange, but sooner or later they’ll join in even if they don’t know what you’re laughing about.

Long ago, a king had twin sons. As they grew to young manhood, the king sought a fair way to choose one of them as crown prince.
Calling them to his room, he said, “My sons, the day will come when one of you must succeed me as king. The burdens of sovereignty (君权) are very heavy. To find out which of you is better able to bear them cheerfully, I am sending you together to a far corner of the kingdom. One of my advisors (顾问) there will place equal burdens on
your shoulders. My crown will one day go to the one who first returns bearing his burden like a king should.”
The brothers set out together. Soon they came across an aged woman struggling under a burden that seemed too heavy for her weak body. The younger brother suggested that they stop to help her. The elder brother disagreed, “We have a task of our own to worry about. Let us be on our way.”
The elder brother hurried on while the other stayed behind to help the aged woman. Along the road he found others who also needed help, and he stopped to help them.
Finally he reached his father’s advisor, where he took his own burden and went home. When he arrived at the palace, his brother greeted him in great disappointment. He said, “I don’t understand. I told our father the weight was too heavy to carry. How did you do it ”

A good brand agency (代理) can create for you a brand identity (身份) of your products. Having the best agency to help with your business, no matter how small, can be one of the biggest steps you can take in letting the world know and get familiar with your products and brands.
Brand agencies work hand in hand with the company in advertising the brand and its products. The company has to tell the agency how they would like the public to see their products. The agency then talks with the company about the progress of the brand in the market.
Working with brand agencies is a two-way street. When the company is happy and satisfied with how the agency has advertised the brand, the trust the company has in the agency grows. Similarly, when the agency does well in its work, the company’s brand and products get good ideas from buyers and the market.
Regarding the identity of the brand, agencies can help a lot in this aspect. For a brand to have a lasting influence on the buyers, an identity of the brand needs to be formed. If the brand is good, then buyers will feel at ease (轻松自在) buying the products of this brand.
44. We can learn from the text that the best agency is necessary for business EXCEPT for ______.
A. letting customers know about the products
B. earning money directly from the products

A. customers B. salesmen C. researchers D. managers

In most places children are banned from working. But at a theme park in Japan, boys and girls can fight fires, catch thieves and also perform the boring tasks of making hamburgers and delivering parcels.
Kidzania, in a shopping centre in Tokyo, is like a real town where children can act out their dreams of future careers. The streets are lined with shops and even a bank. Everything inside is two thirds the normal size to accommodate (容纳) the young workers. After their parents buy the ticket, the children can try several jobs.
Being a firefighter is a dream for many children. Children are being trained in the town’s fire station. Suddenly an alarm bell rings and they put on firefighter clothes before running to the scene. The scene is created with lighting and fake smoke, but for the children it is real enough. “Sometimes it’s too hard for them,” says the worker Ryoko Ishikura. “Some kids are in tears when they hear the alarm and the fire breaks out. But even with tears in their eyes, they go off and fight the fire.”
The idea for Kidzania started in Mexico. It arrived in Japan three years ago and there are also parks in Chile, Indonesia and Portugal. Another one is opening soon in Dubai.
The children are rewarded for their efforts in “Kidzos”, the theme park currency. In most countries it is quickly spent in shops and restaurants. But in Japan, children form long queues at the theme park’s bank. “I’ll put the money in the bank,” said nine-year-old Noa Morita, who wants to be a fashion designer.
48. What do children mainly do in Kidzania
A. They are trained to be volunteers. B. They play a role in children’s movies.
C. They experience their future jobs. D. They learn how to make and save money.
49. When children arrive at a fire scene in Kidzania, they ______.
A. are frightened to run away B. call the firefighters quickly
C. try to put out the fire bravely D. are trained to fight the fire
50.How did Noa Morita deal with her Kidzos
A. She spent it quickly in shops. B. She put it in the park’s bank.
C. She asked her parents to keep it for her.
D. She used it to pay for fashion magazines.
四、任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。
注意:每个空格只填1个单词。
Many children first learn the value of money by receiving an allowance (pocket money). The purpose is to let children learn from experience at an age when financial mistakes are not very costly.
The amount of money that parents give to their children to spend as they wish differs from family to family. Timing is another consideration. Some children get a weekly allowance. Others get a monthly allowance.
In any case, parents should make clear what, if anything, the child is expected to pay for with the money.
At first, young children may spend all of their allowance soon after they receive it. If they do this, they will learn the hard way that spending must be done within a budget. Parents are usually advised not to offer more money until the next allowance.
The object is to show young people that a budget demands choices between spending and saving. Older children may be responsible enough to save money for larger costs, like clothing or electronics.
Many people who have written on the subject of allowances say it is not a good idea to pay your child for work around the home. These jobs are a normal part of family life.
Paying children to do extra work around the house, however, can be useful. It can even provide an understanding of how a business works.
Allowances give children a chance to experience the three things they can do with money. They can share it in the form of gifts or giving to a good cause. They can spend it by buying things they want. Or they can save it.
Saving helps children understand that costly goals require sacrifice: you have to cut costs and plan for the future.
Requiring children to save part of their allowance can also open the door to future saving and investing. Many banks offer services to help children and teenagers learn about personal finance.
A savings account is an excellent way to learn about the power of compound interest.
Compounding works by paying interest on interest. So, for example, one dollar invested at two percent interest for two years will earn two cents in the first year. The second year, the money will earn two percent of one dollar and two cents, and so on.
That may not seem like a lot. But over time it adds up.
