also
offer
them

the
16

was
asked
to
imagine
and
draw
ideas
for
the
painting.After
discussing
the
different
ideas
together,they
chose
the
theme
(主题)
“The
Four
Seasons.”
Finishing
the
painting,four
of
the
student
artists
had
something
to
say
about
their
experience.
Alfea:“You
learn
more
when
you
do
it
yourself.As
you
go
along
you
keep
finding
out
things
you
didn’t
know
before.”
Mauro:“I
like
working
in
a
group
because
you
get
more
done
than
if
you
work
alone.”
Paolo:“It’s
been
fun
working
in
a
group,not
the
same
kind
of
exciting
fun
as
when
you’re
playing
basketball.When
you
do
art,it
makes
you
feel
peaceful.”
Paulina:“You

to
school,but
that
just
isn’t
enough.Why
not
get

the
most
popular
sport
in
the
world—soccer?
Two
weeks
ago,Ms

a
notice
about
an
exciting
new
soccer
club
(for
Grades
3-5).To
join,all
you
have
to
do
is
sign
your
name
and
be
at
school
for
the
fun
of
it
on
Saturday
mornings.You’ll
make
new
friends
and
share
information
about
famous

and
players.
Ms
Goldstein
will
teach,so
you’ll
learn
basic
skills
and
new
techniques
(技巧)
to
improve
your
game.That’s
good
news
because
soccer
is
a
game
you
can
love
three
seasons
a
year.The
only
time
you
can’t
play
is
when
there
is
snow.
However,it
is
hard
to
believe
that
only
nineteen
people
signed
up
for
the
new
club.Maybe
kids
don’t
want
to
give
up
their
Saturday
mornings.But
if
you
think
about
how
we
spend
Saturday
mornings
now,soccer
looks
good.Doing
housework
and
watching
TV
are
not
as
much
fun
as
playing
soccer
with
friends.If
you
didn’t
sign
up
because
you’ve
never
played
soccer
before,don’t
worry.Beginners
are
welcome
and
Ms

will

Just
act

you

One
day,a
pottery
collector
suggested
that
the
artist
add
more
children
to
her
Singing
Mother
figures.She
immediately
thought
of
her
grandfather,Santiago
Quintana.She
liked
the
idea
because,as
she
said,“There
were
always
lots
of
us
grandchildren
around
him.”
So,in
1964,the
first
Storyteller
figure
was
born.
The
first
piece
she
made
was
a
grandfather
sitting,with
five
children
around
him.Each
child
had
a
different
facial
expression.The
grandfather’s
mouth
was
wide
open.So
many
people
wanted
the
figures
that
she
gave
up
her
other
artwork
to
work
on
the
Storytellers.
To
make
her
figures,Mrs.Cordero
preferred
the
brown
clay
(黏土)
of
her
hometown,and
often
walked
a
long
way
to
collect
it.She
talked
to
the
tiny
figures
in
an
effort
to
put
her
own
“happy,special
feeling”
into
every
character
she
created.
Mrs.Cordero
was
always
surprised
that
her
Storytellers
were
enjoyed
by
so
many
people.But
her
admirers
(赞赏者)
know
why
her
work
is
so
well
liked.She
was
an
excellent
artist
who
refused
to
take
shortcuts.She
once
said,“To
make
good
pottery,you
have
to
do
it
the
right
way,the
old
way.”
Today
we
are
thankful
to
both
Helen
Cordero
and
her
grandfather.The

D.One

Over
the
years,many
very
important
guests
have
visited
the
White
House.Some
spend
the
night,though
most
stay
only
for
dinner.But
last
summer,a
furry
little
guest
came
to
the
President’s
house,and
he
hasn’t
left
yet.
In
August,a
fox
was
found
in
a
garden
near
the
White
House
tennis
courts.He’s
since
been
caught
sleeping
on
the
driveway,setting
off
alarms
(警报),and
running
across
the
President’s
golf
course.President
Barack
Obama
once
saw
him
running
outside
the
Oval
Office.In
October,he
even
ate
some
of
the
vegetables
in
the
First
Lady’s
garden!
“We
don’t
mind
him
passing
through,but
we
don’t
want
him
to
stay,”
says
Dale
Haney,who
leads
the
team
of
people
who
take
care
of
the
White
House
lawn
(草地).
The
groundskeepers
have
been
trying
to
catch
the
fox
for
months.But
foxes
are
very
fast.The
fox
has
so
far
escaped
the
groundskeepers
who
chased
him
and
avoided
traps.
Another
challenge
is
that
the
White
House
is
more
than
just
a
house:It
has
a
lot
of
lawns,gardens,and
bushes
nearby
in
which
a
fox
can
hide,something
this
fox
does
well.Few
people
who
work
at
the
White
House
have
even
seen
him.
Haney
had
a
team
of
eight
people
look
for
the
fox’s
home,where
the
animal
sleeps.They
searched
through
bushes
and
gardens
for
45
minutes
every
morning.But
the
fox’s
home
has
stayed
hidden,and
the
groundskeepers
have
given
up.
The
fox
isn’t
the
first
wild
animal
to
hang
around
the
White
House
grounds.Animals
like
birds,raccoons
(浣熊),and
deer
have
all
visited
over
the
years.White
House
officials
have
tried
to
remove
(移开)
these
animals
from
the
White
House
kindly,without
hurting
them.
Haney’s
team
hopes
to
move
the
fox
to
a
park
nearby,along
the
Potomac
River.But
they
will
have
to
catch
him
first!

C.The

Ⅱ.阅读理解
Insects
(昆虫)
are
a
very
healthy
food.They
have
almost
as
much
protein
(蛋白质)
as
meat
from
a
pig
or
cow
and
are
low
in
fat.Eating
insects
is
also
very
good
for
the
environment
since
they
need
less
land
and
water
than
larger
animals.
Marcel
Dicke,who
studies
insects,explained
in
a
talk
how
insects
also
produce
more
meat
from
the
food
they
eat.For
example,imagine
a
farmer
feeds
a
cow
10
pounds
of
food.Those
10
pounds
of
food
produce
about
1
pound
of
meat
for
people
to
eat.However,imagine
the
farmer
gives
a
certain
number
of
insects
10
pounds
of
food.Those
10
pounds
of
food
produce
9
pounds
of
meat
for
people
to
eat!
Eating
more
insects
can
also
help
people
in
poor
areas.Many
people
can
raise
and
sell
insects,which
can
provide
jobs
and
food.
But
insects
will
not
replace
(替代)
animal
meat
very
quickly.First,people
in
some
countries
would
have
to
change
how
they
think
about
eating
insects.Many
people
in
North
America
and
Europe
eat
a
lot
of
meat
like
beef
and
pork.But
they
do
not
traditionally
eat
insects.In
fact,for
many
people
in
the
west,eating
insects
sounds
crazy!They
believe
insects
are
dirty
and
dangerous.Insects
make
them
feel
uncomfortable.
Some
people
are
trying
to
deal
with
this
problem.For
example,David
George
Gordon
wrote
a
book
named
“The
Eat?A?Bug
Cookbook”,which
tries
to
show
people
that
insects
can
be
delicious.Other
insect
experts
travel
around
telling
people
about
the
benefits
(好处)
of
eating
insects.But
they
still
have
a
lot
of
work
to
do.
1.The
example
of
Marcel
Dicke
is
given
to
show________.
A.the
high
cost
of
food
production
B.it’s
quite
easy
for
farmers
to
raise
insects
C.raising
insects
is
a
good
choice
for
farmers
D.the
different
ways
of
feeding
cows
and
insects
2.The

way
eating
insects

to
go
mainly
results
from________.
A.their
terrible
taste
B.people’s
old
beliefs
C.family
traditions
D.eating
methods
3.We
can
infer
from
David
and

that________.
A.people
can

a
lot
of
money
